The purpose of this research study is to: assess how participants like the AWAITS e-health application as measured by their feedback on the intervention test the impact of AWAITS on knowledge about opioid overdose and risk-reduction strategies. assess the proportion of participants who accept a list of local treatment providers test the impact of AWAITS on interest in being tested for HCV/HIV.

The investigators hypothesize that opioid use in African-Americans will be associated with hypodopaminergic alleles that alter the threshold for activating feelings of reward and pleasure within the dopaminergic system, and that these allelic frequencies will differ significantly from European Americans. Planned is a targeted system to study genetic risks for reward deficiency using risk gene panel to assign a genetic addiction risk score (GARS), comprehensive surveys to determine quality of life and exposure to stressors and trauma. This system will allow prediction of addiction and relapse potential and delivery of personalized treatment.

Runaway and homeless youth are at risk for HIV based upon their rates of substance use, particularly injection drug use, unprotected sexual intercourse, multiple partners, and sexually transmitted diseases. Risk increases as the time away from home increases. STRIVE is a family intervention aimed at increasing residential stability, decreasing runaway episodes, and decreasing HIV risk. Families are randomly assigned to a cognitive-behavioral skills-building intervention consisting of five weekly sessions delivered at family homes, or are assigned to standard care. Sessions are aimed at increasing problem solving, role clarity, and positive interactions. It is hypothesized that the intervention will result in improved family dynamics, less runaway behavior, and less risky behavior.

Preliminary controlled trial of a brief intervention designed to reduce child maltreatment risk among low-income pregnant mothers. Foci will include major risk factors for maltreatment, including substance abuse, social isolation, depression, violence exposure, and maladaptive child-rearing attitudes/beliefs.

This project will pilot test a computer-assisted social network intervention, using motivational interviewing techniques, that can help case managers work with formerly homeless young adults who recently transitioned to supportive housing to reduce substance use and increase permanent supportive connections during this critical transitional period.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Computerized Exercise to Alter Stimulant Approach Responses (CEASAR), a novel stimulant use cessation intervention, for clients currently enrolled in a treatment centre for mental health and addiction. The investigators plan to conduct a randomized, single-blind controlled trial involving inpatients presenting with concurrent disorders to test the impact of this novel computerized intervention. This pilot study will be conducted at the Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addiction (BCMHA) in Burnaby, BC, Canada.

Individuals indicating risky substance use are randomly assigned either to a three-month online intervention on the Workit Health platform or a waitlist/treatment as usual. Those randomized to treatment will report reduced consumption of alcohol and other drugs and higher quality of life at study conclusion.

The purpose of this research study is to determine the usefulness of the TIPS iPad app in the treatment of adolescent patients who qualify for Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).

This study will evaluate a program called AWARE, which is a voluntary four session group-based motivational interviewing (MI) intervention to reduce substance use and sexual risk behavior among 18-25 year olds who are experiencing homelessness. The hypothesis is that participants who receive AWARE will show greater reductions in substance use and sexual risk behavior over a 12 month period compared to participants who do not receive the program.
