Buprenorphine to Improve HIV Care Engagement and Outcomes

HIVSubstance Related Disorders

The purpose of this study is to compare two models of substance abuse treatment in Vietnam, and how they each affect HIV care. In Vietnam, the current model for treating people with HIV who are also dependent on opioids is to refer them to methadone maintenance treatment centers. The new model the protocol will study is treatment of HIV and opioid dependence with buprenorphine/naloxone and counseling in the HIV clinic.

Human Immunodeficiency VirusAcquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome2 more

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relative impact a medical drug (methadone) or behavioral counseling program (Holistic Health Recovery Program) or both (methadone and Holistic Health Recovery Program) has on reducing HIV-related risk behaviors and illicit drug use among opioid-dependent, HIV-infected individuals in prison when given 90 to 180 days prior to leaving prison.

Evaluating MyPath to Enhance Reproductive Autonomy and Liberate Decision-making

Substance Use DisordersReproductive Issues1 more

This is a pilot study to evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of incorporating a patient-facing reproductive decision support tool, MyPath, into existing clinical pathways in a SUD treatment program. This study will be conducted virtually in partnership with a single substance use treatment program within the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Aim 1: Assess the feasibility and acceptability of incorporating a patient-facing reproductive decision support tool (MyPath) into existing clinical pathways in a substance use treatment program. Aim 2: Assess preliminary efficacy of MyPath on reproductive health knowledge, self-efficacy, and decisional conflict as compared to usual care, as well comparisons between receipt of reproductive health services during the usual care period versus after implementing the intervention. The investigators hypothesize that the MyPath tool is acceptable and feasible for participants and their providers within a SUD treatment program. They also anticipate that preliminary efficacy data will show a positive correlation between the MyPath intervention and receipt of reproductive services, as well as increased knowledge and self-efficacy with decreased decision conflict. This pilot study will lay the groundwork for future larger trials in order to measure efficacy of this tool in substance use treatment settings.

Study on the Impact of Patient Navigators on the Health Education and Quality of Life in Formerly...

HIV/AIDSDiabetes Mellitus2 more

This is a 3-year prospective randomized comparative study of the efficacy of patient navigation on health education, health related quality of life, healthcare utilization, and medical outcomes in formerly incarcerated individuals. Individuals will be randomized to the patient-navigator intervention or to a care-as-usual control condition. A total of 300 recently incarcerated individuals will be enrolled with 150 subjects each in the intervention and usual care group. The investigators hypothesize that the intervention will improve health education, health related quality of life, adherence to clinical appointments, glycemic/blood pressure control, and virologic suppression in HIV-infected. The results of this study will demonstrate interventions to eliminate health disparities in a highly marginalized group going through the transitional phase of re-entry into the community.

Differential Sensitivity Markers in Youth Drug Abuse Prevention

Adolescent Substance Use

This pilot study conducts feasibility and exploratory intervention outcome research that will lead to the development of a personalized intervention framework that seeks to preempt the progression from early drug use to more chronic abuse and dependency. The study will explore moderators representing two frameworks, risk severity and differential sensitivity. Moderators will be explored in their ability to influence the differential efficacy of two adolescent drug abuse interventions.
