Smartphone Intervention for Overdose and COVID-19
Substance Use DisordersOverdose1 moreThis study will examine if the use of a smartphone application called Thrive4Life Connect can help people who use drugs lower their risk of overdose and learn more about COVID-19 vaccines. 60 participants will be enrolled and can expect to be on study for up to 6 months.
Increasing Linkage to Family Planning Care for Individuals With Substance Use Disorder
Family Planning ServicesSubstance-Related Disorders2 moreThis study will utilize mixed methods to develop and assess the feasibility and acceptability of a health educator intervention designed to connect patients in recovery from substance use disorder to reproductive health education and services.
Advancing Understanding of Transportation Options
Diabetic RetinopathyMacular Degeneration30 moreThis Stage II randomized, controlled, longitudinal trial seeks to assess the acceptability, feasibility, and effects of a driving decision aid use among geriatric patients and providers. This multi-site trial will (1) test the driving decision aid (DDA) in improving decision making and quality (knowledge, decision conflict, values concordance and behavior intent); and (2) determine its effects on specific subpopulations of older drivers (stratified for cognitive function, decisional capacity, and attitudinally readiness for a mobility transition). The overarching hypotheses are that the DDA will help older adults make high-quality decisions, which will mitigate the negative psychosocial impacts of driving reduction, and that optimal DDA use will target certain populations and settings.
Supportive Release Center Study
Mental HealthMental Health Services3 moreThe Supportive Release Center (SRC) is a collaboration between the University of Chicago Urban Health Lab, Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, Heartland Alliance Health, and the Cook County Sheriff's office. The aim of the SRC is to identify individuals with mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and other vulnerabilities as they are released from the Cook County Jail (CCJ), provide an improved environment to assess needs of these individuals, and facilitate effective linkages with social services following release, including medical care and substance use or mental health treatment. The SRC improves the current standard of care offered at the CCJ by introducing mechanisms to facilitate engagement with post-release services and address individuals' immediate acute needs. The primary objective of this randomized controlled trial is to evaluate the impact of assignment to the SRC on the number of arrests within one year of study enrollment among eligible men being released from the Cook County Jail. Researchers hypothesize that the SRC is more effective than usual care at facilitating and ensuring receipt of transition services and care, and that receipt of this treatment will decrease the number of arrests within one year of study enrollment.
Effect Of Art Therapy Applied to Individuals With Substance Use Subject to Supervised Release
Substance UseThe goal of this clinical trial is to examine the effect of art therapy applied to individuals with substance use who are subject to probation on difficulty in emotion regulation, self-esteem and hopelessness. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: [Is art therapy effective on the level of emotion regulation difficulties of individuals with substance use who are subject to probation?] [Is art therapy effective on the self-esteem level of individuals with substance use who are subject to probation?][Is art therapy effective on the hopelessness level of individuals with substance use who are subject to probation?] Data will be collected through scale forms and art therapy sessions. Within the scope of the pre-test application, data will be collected from all participants in the sample group using the "Personal Information Form", "Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-Brief Form (DERS-16)", "Coopersmith Self-Esteem Scale", "Beck Hopelessness Scale". Art therapy will be applied face to face to the participants in the intervention group, in groups of 4-12 people, in the group guide room, on a common day and time determined by the group members and the researchers. Researchers will compare the experimental group and the control group to see whether art therapy applied to individuals with substance use who are subject to probation has an effect on emotion regulation difficulties, self-esteem and hopelessness.
It´s Up To You: Update and Digitalization of a Universal School-based Prevention Intervention for...
Substance UseBehavior4 moreThis non-randomized cluster-controlled trial examines the effectiveness of the digitalized and updated version of the It´s Up To You - program, a universal school-based prevention intervention for drug initiation and use targeting youth aged between 12 and 17 years.
Substance Use Screening to Encourage Behavior Change Among Young People in Primary Care
Substance UseBinge Drinking2 moreThis study evaluates whether completing a short screening questionnaire about health behaviours in the waiting room before a primary care consultation decreases excessive substance use in young people aged 14 to 24 years. Young people consulting a primary care physician will randomly receive either a questionnaire about substance use or a questionnaire about physical activity. They will be contacted again 3, 6 and 12 months later and asked to complete a questionnaire about substance use. The proportion of young people with excessive substance use in each group will be compared. The researchers hypothesise that at three months this proportion will be lower in the group of young people having completed the initial questionnaire about substance use when compared to the group having completed the questionnaire about physical activity.
Cognitive Rehabilitation for Opioid Abuse-related Cognitive Impairment
Substance-Related DisordersResearch has consistently found that cognitive impairment is common in persons with a history of substance abuse. The most commonly identified impairments across all substances are in attentional and working memory functioning and executive functioning; opioid-specific research finds that memory is an additional area of common impairment. Initial research in applying cognitive rehabilitation methods to substance abuse have shown it to be helpful overall. To develop a cognitive rehabilitation intervention that is effective for opioid abuse, this study will adapt a cognitive training program that has been shown to be effective in other patient groups. Patients in a residential opioid-abuse treatment program will undergo a cognitive evaluation and then be assigned to receive the 4-week cognitive intervention or the 4-week placebo control arm. It is expected that the intervention group will show greater gains on the cognitive post test and will have higher rated treatment adherence and opioid treatment program completion rates.
Effect of Folic Acid on the Presentation of Nuclear Abnormalities in People With a History Drug...
Drug AbuseGenotoxicityBackground: Multiple studies have pointed to the harmful potential of licit and illicit drugs. as agents associated with neoplastic processes and other non-communicable diseases, for which reason It has become a problem of global size. Objective: The central objective is to determine the cytogenotoxic damage in the oral mucosa of people with chronic drug use, as well as establishing the therapeutic effect of acid administration folic on said damage. Methodology: Quasi-experimental study, pretest-posttest design with no control group. equivalent, in subjects with substance abuse and healthy subjects. The intervention will consist of administration of 15 mg of folic acid divided into 3 doses per day. Mucosal samples will be taken orally in duplicate to each participant to determine the frequency of micronuclei (MN), bursts cells (NBUD), binucleated cells (BN), condensed chromatin (CC), karyorrhexis (CR), pyknosis (PIC) and caryolysis (CL) at different time events: pre-treatment, 15 days and 30 days. So as a survey to determine consumption patterns of psychoactives, sociodemographic data, dietary and exposure to known cytogenotoxic agents. Resources and infrastructure: The study will be carried out in the pharmacology laboratory of the Center University of Tonalá, who will make their equipment and reagents available. Group experience: The research group has over a decade of experience in the development of projects related to mutagenesis and cyto-genotoxic agents. Development time: The project will be developed from February 2023 to August of 2023
Cost-effectiveness of the Care Pathways
Diabete Type 2Substance AbuseIn this study we research patient segmentation made by Suuntima-service and it´s impacts to Quality of care, Service use and Costs of care among Type 2 Diabetes patients and Substance Abuse patients. With this Suuntima-servise based segmentation we assume to find appropriate services and Self-Management to allocate Type 2 Diabetes and Substance Abuse patients. We plan their care pathways by Suuntiman-service customership strategies (Self-acting, community, co-operation, network).
