Assessing the PrEP Care Cascade Among Black Men and Transwomen in the Southeastern US
HIV SeropositivitySubstance Use3 moreThe proposed research aims to assess the multiple forms and paths of stigma and substance use as they relate to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use for HIV prevention. How stigma and an evolving public health landscape impact PrEP use among Black sexual minorit men who use substances is unknown. The current application focuses on addressing critical and novel questions to improving the essential building blocks of biomedical prevention approaches by providing crucial information for enhancing interventions to lower HIV prevalence among substance using Black sexual minority men.
Southwest Hub for American Indian Youth Suicide Prevention Research
SuicideSurveillance3 moreTo use a SMART design to evaluate which of four sequences of New Hope (NH), Elders Resilience (ER) and Case Management (CM) have the greater effects on immediate and longer-term suicidal ideation (primary outcome) and resilience (secondary outcome) among American Indian (AI) adolescents ages 10-24 identified at risk for suicide. Hypotheses: i. New Hope vs. CM alone will significantly reduce participant suicidal ideation. ii. Elders Resilience vs. CM alone will significantly improve participant resilience. iii. New Hope followed by Elders Resilience will have the strongest effects on suicidal ideation and resilience. iv. CM alone will have the weakest effects of all combinations. Secondary Aims: To examine mediators and moderators of treatment effectiveness and sequencing in order to determine which types and sequence of interventions is best suited for which youth. To assess the acceptability, feasibility and capacity for sustainability of the Hub's key intervention components (Surveillance/Case Management, New Hope and Elders' Resilience) from the perspective of multiple stakeholders as they are implemented across different tribes.
Tobacco, Alcohol, Prescription Drug, and Illicit Substance Use- Electronic Spanish Platform
Tobacco UseAlcohol Abuse2 moreThe goal of this study is to validate the TAPS-ESP as a screen and assessment that can be used in primary care for the screening and treatment of substance use.
OMAR Opioid Use Disorder
Healthy ControlOpioid Use DisorderThe goal of this research study is to examine the endocannabinoid (eCB) function in vivo in individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) by measuring cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1R) availability.
Wakaya: Rising Up for Choctaw Youth Health
ObesityAdolescent3 moreInvestigators will conduct a two-group randomized waitlist-control trial to assess the efficacy of the Wakaya: Rising Up for Choctaw Youth Health program on improving physical activity, reducing sedentary behaviors and improving healthful eating habits as well as delaying or reducing alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. Wakaya is an experiential, outdoor, nature-based program grounded in Choctaw values. It is a multi-level intervention that increases individual motivation and leadership skills to make healthy behavioral choices for behavior and exercise.
Effectiveness of a Mindfulness Program on Emotion Regulation Among Youth Attending an Alternative...
Substance UseMindfulness4 moreThe main goal of this single-arm pre-post intervention study is to see if an adapted mindfulness program can improve emotion regulation among youth aged 15-19 years who attend an alternative school. Participants will complete a baseline survey package using an iPad. They will then receive an adapted version of the 6-session Learning to BREATHE Program as part of a course they are taking at their school. Students will again complete a survey package within 2 weeks of completing the program. The investigator will compare baseline and post-intervention survey responses to see if the program improved emotion regulation, as well as several secondary psychosocial and behavioral outcomes.

Implementing PrEP for Women Who Inject Drugs
HIVIntravenous Substance Abuse4 moreWomen who inject drugs are among the most vulnerable to acquiring HIV, but very few women who inject drugs are prescribed pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention largely due to barriers within our healthcare system. This research will consider the perspectives of women who inject drugs, healthcare providers, and clinic leadership to improve the way primary care and reproductive health clinics deliver PrEP to women who inject drugs, thereby reducing new HIV infections in this population.
Health and Resilience Projects: Foundations
Substance UseThe Health and Resilience Project (HARP): Foundations is investigating the efficacy of the Strong African American Families (SAAF) intervention in promoting the health and well being of African American adolescents. Youth age 10-13 and their primary caregivers are randomly assigned to receive SAAF or to a control group. Participants complete baseline and follow-up measures regarding vulnerability to substance use based on a neuroimmune model of stress coping.
Machine Learning Technology in Predicting Relapse and Implementing Peer Recovery Intervention Before...
Substance Abuse DisorderThe goal of this clinical trial is to study the relationship between substance cravings, cognitive performance, behaviors, and physiological markers in individuals with substance use disorder, as well as the effects of peer recovery intervention in response to abnormal biomarker data detected by wearable technology (e.g., Oura ring, smart watch) and participant responses to questionnaires and cognitive tasks completed on the RNI Health application.
