Does Spiritual/Religious Commitment Mediate the Relationship Between Mood Variability and Suicidal...

Anxiety DisorderMood Disorder

The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not spiritual and/or religious commitment affects mood variability and thoughts of suicide. First we hypothesize that among patients with depressive symptoms, those who have higher religious/spiritual (R/S) commitment will have less suicidal ideation and less mood variability. Second, we hypothesize that higher mood variability will be associated with more suicidal ideation. Finally, dependent on the first two hypotheses, we propose that R/S commitment will mediate the relationship between mood variability and suicidal ideation.

Pharmacists as Gate Keepers in Suicide Prevention: Needs of Pharmacists

Pharmacist-Patient RelationsSuicide3 more

This study aims to examine the opinions and needs of pharmacists and pharmaceutical technical assistants (FTA) concerning their role as gatekeepers in suicide prevention. The primary objective is to map the experiences and needs of (public) pharmacists and FTA with regard to suicide prevention. The secondary objective is to be able to develop more targeted tools, interventions or trainings based on the results of the needs assessment in order to facilitate the role of (public) pharmacists and FTA as gatekeepers in suicide prevention.

In-Home Sleep Monitoring to Detect Suicide Risk in Veterans

Suicidal IdeationSleep Disturbance

This research will assess the ability of nightly objective sleep scheduling and sleep heart rate data to predict variation in suicidal ideation in U.S. military veterans identified as high-risk according to actuarial and/or clinical indicators. These data will be recorded using one of two low-cost, commercial, zero-burden, mattress actigraphic systems that enable remote, centralized, data access. Participants will be veterans accrued both from the REACH VET and local high-risk lists, a process involving collaboration with the Suicide Prevention Coordinator at the VA Palo Alto HCS. In order to minimize burden, participants will be screened by telephone, consented by mail and telephone, administered a brief admission psychometric interview by telephone, and mailed a sleep sensor system and instructions for its installation in their home. Once sleep data collection has commenced, a trained interviewer will contact the participant by telephone weekly and administer the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale. Data collection will continue for three months. The study targets a sample of 40 veterans. Longitudinal mixed effects modeling will be employed to determine whether changes in sleep scheduling and sleep heart rate predict changes in suicidal ideation.

Correlation of Campbell Score With Suicidal Ideation

Suicidal Ideation

The Campbell Score is a blood based means of assessing molecules believed to be associated with suicidal ideation and in some cases successful suicide. The current clinical trial will assess the Campbell Score in 3 groups: Group 1: 10 patients with no personal or family psychiatric history and no suicide attempts. Group 2: 10 patients with suicidal ideation (Hamilton Depression Rating Scale suicide item >2) and reported low acquired capability for suicide (Acquired Capability for Suicide Scale <20). Group 3: 10 patients with suicidal ideation (Hamilton Depression Rating Scale suicide item >2) and reported high acquired capability for suicide (Acquired Capability for Suicide Scale >60). The goal of the study is to confirm efficacy of Campbell Score in identifying patients with high suicidal ideation potential.

Observational Study to Compare Outcomes of Different Psychiatric Treatment of Suicidal Adolescents...

Suicidal Ideation

To address the unmet need of optimizing the treatment and management for adolescent suicidality, the investigators propose to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of telehealth services compared to inpatient and OCIC for suicidal adolescents in target population. To achieve this goal, the investigators propose a multi- site study to compare telehealth, OCIC, and inpatient care, and see which can lead to a lower risk of a suicidal event (primary outcome) as well as higher treatment satisfaction (TS) and satisfaction with life (SL) (secondary outcomes) of both the legal guardians/parents and patients.

Identification of Genetic Markers and Predictors of Antidepressant-induced Suicidality in Youth...

DepressionSuicidal Ideation

The objective of this study is to identification of genetic markers and predictors of antidepressant-induced suicidality in youth depression. Participants who take the standardized pharmacotherapy (bupropion or lamotrigine) for depression will be observed for 8 weeks. They will do several scales and genetic tests at visit 1 (week 0), visit 3 (week 4) and visit 4 (week 8)

Massive Mental Health Screening Using Smartphones in 24 Pre-graduate Education Centers in Mexico...

Suicidal IdeationSocial Behavior5 more

The objective of this study is to make a massive suicide risk and social behavior assessment in 24 pre-graduate education centers in Mexico City (approximately 30,000 students aged between 15 and 22 years), taking also into account other outcomes such as depression, anxiety, alcohol and drugs. For this, an app for Smartphone (MeMind) or a web platform (www.MeMind.net) will be used in which the participants will take a self-administered questionnaire, composed of several psychometric instruments. Our main hypothesis is that identification of suicide risk in the Mexico City's student community is feasible using their own smartphones and can serve as both a population screening tool for early specialist referral, as well as a tool for evaluating social behavior strategies and their relation to suicide behavior.

Suicidal Ideation and Behavior in Korean Adolescents With Depression

Depression

The purpose of this study is to examine clinical characteristics of Korean adolescents with depression who have suicidal ideation and behavior. We formulate those hypotheses. Being bullied in peer relationships, excessive use of internet, excessive extra-curricular tutoring, sexual abuse in childhood, physical abuse and emotional neglect are risk factors of suicide in adolescents. Depression of parents and negative child-rearing attitude are risk factors of suicidal ideation and behavior in adolescents. Emotional quotient (EQ) and resilience of adolescent are protective factors of suicide.

Population Screening Using Smartphone in Milpa Alta

Suicidal IdeationDepression4 more

The objective of this study is to make a suicide screening in the entire population of Milpa Alta (approximately 150,000 inhabitants), taking into account other outcomes such as depression, anxiety, alcohol and drugs. For this, an app for Smartphone (MeMind) or a web platform (www.MeMind.net) will be used in which the participants will take a self-administered questionnaire, composed of several psychometric instruments . It is expected that 70% of the population between 15 and 70 years old can do so directly with their own Smartphone, although web access posts will be enabled in educational and municipal units to avoid discrimination based on age or access to technology. Our main hypothesis argues that the early identification of people at risk in almost the entire community can be done with an App for Smartphone, serving to depict a map of mental health and related needs of the population, serving for the planning of healthcare services of the local environment, and ultimately for the best assistance of groups and individuals with greater needs through their identification and early reference to medical assistance.
