Photobiomodulation in Palate Wounds: Somatosensorial Evaluation

Surgical Wound

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the effects of photobiomodulation with red laser on gingival graft donor areas of the palate in comparison to only protection with wound dressing. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does photobiomodulation on the palate promote faster somatosensory recovery? Does photobiomodulation reduce pain in palate donor sites, improving the quality of life? Participants who need gingival graft surgeries will receive laser irradiation on the palate donor area or just protection with wound dressing. Data will be collected up to 60 days. Researchers will compare protection on the palate and protection plus laser irradiation to see if laser therapy may reduce pain and accelerate somatosensory normalization. Moreover, they will measure changes in the quality of life after treatment.

Best Incision in Cesarean Section of Obese Women

Morbid ObesityCesarean Section Complications

The goal of this comparative clinical trial is to compare Pfannenstiel incision and higher transverse supra umbilical incision techniques during elective cesarean section in morbidly obese patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: Is there a difference in operative time between the two incision techniques? Is there a difference in estimated blood loss between the two techniques? Is there a difference in post-operative pain scores between the two techniques? Is there a difference in wound complication rates between the two techniques? Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either a Pfannenstiel incision or a higher transverse supra umbilical incision during their scheduled cesarean delivery. Researchers will compare the Pfannenstiel incision group to the higher transverse supra umbilical incision group to see if there are differences in operative time, blood loss, post-operative pain, and wound complications.

Closed Incisional Negative Pressure Wound Therapy in Post-surgical Wound Care of Patients With Periprosthetic...

Wound HealPeriprosthetic Joint Infection

In the proposed study, we will apply Prevena on the surgical wound right after closure of the wound in the operating theater. Prevena will be used for 7 days, unless there is ongoing infection or much wound drainage that requires debridement. Most periprosthetic joint infections are from hematogenous origin. Hence, it is considered clean wound unless there is a discharging sinus.

Subcutaneous Closed-Suction Drainage Affects Surgical Wounds Healing in Lower Gastrointestinal Open...

All Diseases That Require Gastrointestinal Open Surgery

This is a single-center, randomized controlled trial to evaluate whether subcutaneous closed-suction drainage would decrease the incidence of poor surgical site healing in lower gastrointestinal open surgery. The independent risk factors of the incidence of poor surgical wounds healing in lower gastrointestinal open surgery will be analyzed.

Stress Urinary IncontinenceSurgical Incision1 more

This study will compare the use of a dual-agent local analgesic (bupivacaine-meloxicam) for abdominal incisions in patients undergoing retropubic mid-urethral sling surgery to see if narcotic usage and pain are impacted.

Scar Appearance After Postoperative Hydrocolloid Dressing Versus Standard Petrolatum Ointment

ScarSkin Scarring7 more

Patients will be randomized either to receive standard daily dressing or hydrocolloid dressing using a randomization generator. After closing the wound with the sutures, the scar will be covered by a hydrocolloid dressing, which will be left in place for 7 days(Experimental) or the standard dressing (Control) that will be covered with petrolatum jelly and bandaging during this time period, which has to be re-applied daily. Patients and dermatologic surgeons will then complete surveys 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days after surgery to evaluate the cosmetic appearance of these scars.

Antibacterial-coated Sutures at Time of Cesarean

Surgical Site InfectionSurgical Wound Infection2 more

Abdominal closure with antibacterial-coated sutures has been shown to reduce wound infections after a number of surgical procedures, but none of the previous trials included cesarean delivery. Our objective is to determine whether use of antibacterial-coated sutures reduces surgical site infection (SSI) after cesarean delivery.

Prospective, single-blinded, single-center, parallel group, randomized controlled trial (RCT) to assess rate and frequency of wound healing and associated financial savings, when using Medaxis debritom+ versus standard of care as a choice of debridement method, where both arms follow normal wound care practice in use of advanced wound care treatments.

Direct Resuscitation of the Open Peritoneum

Wound; AbdomenAbdomen2 more

The DROP trial evaluates two ways of treating patients whose abdomens are left open after their abdominal surgery. The current standard of care at Sanford is for patients to have their wound covered with a sterile dressing connected to a vacuum with suction, which removes fluid from the abdomen. In this trial, we are evaluating the benefits of adding dialysis fluid to the abdomen periodically, prior to suctioning it out with the vacuum system. This trial will show if the addition of this fluid lowers the risk of complications and death, and allows the surgeon to close the abdomen sooner
