Triclosan Coated Suture Wound Closure for Peripheral Vascular Surgery: a Prospective Multicenter...

Surgical Wound Infection

This is a prospective randomized multicenter study which purpose is to determine whether triclosan-coated sutures for wound closure after lower limb vascular surgery would reduce the incidence of surgical wound infections.

Electrocautery Versus Scalpel for Skin Incisions

Wound ComplicationSurgical Wound Infection1 more

The aim of this research project is to compare electrocautery to scalpel for laparotomy skin incisions, with the following objectives: To investigate whether electrocautery produces a cosmetically inferior surgical scar. To compare the rates of wound infection with each technique. To determine if electrocautery results in less postoperative pain. Our null hypothesis is that electrocautery is equivalent to scalpel for creating skin incisions; with respect to wound cosmesis, wound infection rate, and post-operative pain.

Supplemental Oxygen in Vascular Surgery

Surgical Wound InfectionVascular Surgery

The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that supplemental postoperative oxygen reduces the risk of surgical wound infection in patients following lower limb vascular surgery.

Clinical Evaluation of the GLYDe Dressing for Post-surgical Incision Care

Post Surgical Incisions From Abdominoplasty Procedures

This study will evaluate a new dressing to be used for post-incision care for abdominoplasty patients. The hypothesis is that this dressing will minimize scar formation.

Prevention of Neurosurgical Wound Infections

Surgical Wound Infections

The goal of this study is to determine whether injecting the antibiotic vancomycin directly into surgical wounds can decrease the rate of infection following implantation of neurosurgical devices.

Short Transverse Versus Conventional Hockey Stick Incision in Kidney Transplantation

Kidney Transplantation

Today the minimal invasive access is used for a lot of different operations. This technique takes the advantage of less postoperative pain, better cosmetic results, and a lower surgical complication rate (e.g. hernia, wound infection). Especially patients under immunosuppressive therapy could benefit from this technique. First results in minimally invasive kidney transplantation indicate that it may be performed quickly and safely. Benefits are expectable on postoperative pain, recovery, and surgical complications. Another retrospective study showed lower rates of hernia, abdominal wall relaxations, and a better postoperative cosmetic. The aim of this study is to compare the classic hockey stick incision with a minimal invasive incision in a randomized clinical trial.

Orthopaedic Surgical Wound Closure Comparison Study

IncisionSurgical

This study is trying to find out if there is one method of surgical incision closure is better than another. The three different wound closure methods in this study are currently used in standard of care. The three methods being compared are standard stitches and the wound closure devices, Clozex, and Zipline. All of these methods are approved by the FDA.

Short Term Comparison of Two Different Techniques of Uterine Cesarean Incision Closure

Cesarean Section Complications

Cesarean section (C/S) is an operation most commonly performed in Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics. Complications related with incomplete healing of Kerr uterine incision after C/S (adhesions, separation (dehiscence), endometritis, endometriosis, anomalous placentation in subsequent pregnancies, incomplete or complete uterine rupture in subsequent pregnancies, ...) are very important issues. Classically Kerr incision is repaired with continuous locked suturing. Purse string suturing of Kerr incision may reduce the size of the incision and in turn may reduce short and long term complications. For this reason, the investigators aimed to compare two closure techniques.
