Comparison of Open and Closed Chain Exercises in Athletes With Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a common source of knee pain in the physically active population, predominantly in women. The incidence rate of PFPS among athletes is 25 percent, which is higher than that of general population. PFPS is caused by repetitive stress and aggravated in athletes by cycling and running. These symptoms are caused by structural or biomechanical changes of the joint, which becomes exacerbated by activities such as going up and down stairs, sit for a prolonged period, squatting or kneeling, resulting in increased compressive forces in the joint patellofemoral. It is characterized by defused pain in front of knee. Other signs also present are the patellar crepitus, swelling, and joint blockage despite being deemed a multifactorial condition with no single cure, PFPS is commonly attributed to muscular dysfunction, for which conservative rehabilitation is the treatment of choice. Historically, PFPS has been linked to impairments of the quadriceps muscle.

Fecal Microbiota Transplantation to Relieve Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome With Constipation...

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a complex multifactorial functional disorder, whose pathophysiology is largely associated to an impairment of the intestinal microbiota composition, namely dysbiosis. Thus, the modulation of the gut microbiota has been proposed as a possible therapeutic strategy for IBS patients alongside with current available drugs. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a promising strategy to restore intestinal eubiosis. In this randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial patients diagnosed with IBS with constipation are assigned with 1:1 ratio to receive FMT from healthy donor or autologous FMT (placebo group) to assess the effectiveness of FMT on IBS symptoms and quality of life, to evaluate the safety of FMT among IBS patients and to estimate any change in the gut microbiota composition of IBS patients after the FMT.

Complementary Self-help Strategies for Patients With Post-COVID-19 Syndrome

Post-COVID-19 Syndrome

Individuals affected by SARS-CoV-2 infection may subsequently be affected by the so-called post-COVID syndrome. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of a multimodal 10-week group program consisting of self-help strategies based on complementary medicine approaches of TEM (Traditional European Medicine), TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), and TIM (Traditional Indian Medicine) in addition to treatment as usual versus treatment as usual alone (no active study intervention/waiting list). Endpoints of the study include subjective quantitative and qualitative as well as objective (physician-reported) variables.

Evaluating the Efficacy of the Mediterranean Diet to the Low- Fermentable, Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides,...

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

This study is being completed to determine if the Mediterranean (MD) and low FODMAP (fermentable, oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols) diets are comparable in the effectiveness to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The study team hypothesizes that: The low FODMAP and Mediterranean groups will achieve a similar improvement in abdominal pain Both groups will achieve similar improvements in bloating, overall IBS symptom severity, and adequate relief
