Short Foot Exercises With Respiratuar Exercises

Pes planus is a common foot problem since childhood, which may include loss of height of the medial longitudinal arch, which is the most important arch supporting the foot, valgus of the hindfoot, and abduction of the midfoot relative to the hindfoot. Muscle shortness, increased joint laxity with obesity, W-shaped sitting, male gender and genetic background are among the factors that can increase the incidence and severity of pes planus in the pediatric population. It has been shown in different studies that pes planus is carried into adulthood at a rate of 4-23%. It is known that there is oxygen consumption from the body during muscle contraction. For this reason, it has been shown in the literature that muscle oxygenation is better and the performance of the individual is better in exercises combined with breathing exercises in the exercise program. Therefore, the investigators hypothesized whether foot shortening exercises combined with breathing would have an effect on muscular activation during foot shortening exercises. It is seen that there is a limited number of studies in the literature evaluating the effect of breathing exercises and combined foot exercises on the activation of the muscles around the feet. For this reason, the aim of this study is to examine the effect of combined respiratory foot shortening exercises on the muscular activations of the foot circumference in individuals with flat feet. Two-way repeated analyses of variance will use to determine the statistical significance of Abductor Hallucis Longus, Tibialis Anterior, and Peroneus Longus electromyography activity. Participants: Ten participants with pes planus.The participants will perform Short Foot Exercises with and without respiratory exercises in sitting and standing positions. Main Outcome Measures: Surface electromyography will use to measure the activity of the Abductor Hallucis Longus, Tibialis anterior, Peroneus Longus. Respiratory exercises may be an effective method for reducing compensatory Tibialis Anterior activity and increasing Abductor Hallucis Longus muscle activity during Short Foot Exercises for individuals with pes planus.

Comparison Study of Biofoam Porous Metal Versus Allograft to Treat Adult Acquired Flatfoot

Adult Acquired Flatfoot

The purpose of this study is to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of a randomized, consecutive series of adult patients, with an acquired flatfoot, treated with a lateral column lengthening using an allograft bone wedge versus a titanium porous metal implant (Biofoam, Wright Medical). Null hypothesis: At six months postoperatively, there is no difference in the degree of correction as measured by the talonavicular coverage angle between patients randomized to allograft and Biofoam. Alternative hypothesis: At six months postoperatively, the degree of correction as measured by the talonavicular coverage angle will be less in patients randomized to allograft than the degree of correction in patients randomized to Biofoam.

Increased Femoral Anteversion is a transverse plan problem that affects lower body alignment, walking and standing characteristics and also pes planovalgus mostly accompanies with IFA. It is shown that children with IFA and PPV have back and leg pain, fatigue, muscle cramps and they are under the risk for chronic disorders such as osteoarthritis, scoliosis and muscle injuries. Insoles, which reduce pronation of foot (flat foot), provide apparently a static correction by supporting proper alignment in children with IFA and PPV. However, the dynamic effects of insoles to lower extremity biomechanics while walking is not known. The aims of this study are to determine the effects of the insoles on walking biomechanics in children with IFA and PPV by comparing with their healthy peers.

The purpose of this study is to explore the long-term effects that orthotics imposes on the structure and function of the foot. The objectives of the study are to determine if the use of custom-made foot orthotics (CFO) cause: (a) changes to the structure of the plantar intrinsic muscles, (b) changes in the rate of muscle activity and timing in the plantar intrinsic muscles and (c) creates any changes in balance control during gait termination. The aim of the study is to enhance the appropriate dispensing of orthotics, and whether additional measures, such as rehabilitation exercises are necessary to increase their overall effectiveness in the clinical setting.

Foot Core Training in Individuals With Pes Planus

Foot core training is very important for the intrinsic muscles of the foot, but it is often neglected in exercise programs given to individuals with pes planus. The aim of our study is to reveal the effects of foot core training, which will be added to the exercise program routinely given to individuals with asymptomatic flexible pes planus, on walking, muscular activations, balance and lower extremity functional performance with objective, evidence based results.

Calcaneal Neck Lengthening Osteotomy With Artificial Bone Graft

In this foot deformity (plano valgus) surgery may be indicated. The deformity is corrected with an osteotomy at the heelbone. In most cases bone graft material has to be obtained from the iliac crest to support the osteotomy. In the planned study a group of children will be operated with an artificial bone graft material and thus avoiding the need harvesting of bone graft at the iliac crest.
