Rotator Cuff TendinopathyTranscranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), an electrostimulation technique known to modulate the motor cortex excitability, has been shown to enhance the effects of rehabilitation in populations with neurological injuries. tDCS could similarly be effective in individuals with rotator cuff (RC) tendinopathy, as this pathology is also associated with pain and motor control deficits. For the treatment of RC tendinopathy, sensorimotor training is effective to reduce pain, increase function and enhance motor control of the shoulder. The addition of tDCS during sensorimotor training could enhance motor learning associated with sensorimotor training and thus improve treatment outcome. PURPOSE: To compare, in terms of symptoms, functional limitations and shoulder control, a group receiving a rehabilitation program centered on sensorimotor training combined with tDCS to a group receiving the same rehabilitation program combined with sham tDCS in individuals with RC tendinopathy. METHODS: Forty adults with RC tendinopathy will take part in the 4 evaluation sessions (0, 3, 6, 12 weeks) and a 6-week rehabilitation program. Outcome measures will be symptoms and functional limitations (Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand and the Western Ontario Rotator Cuff index), as well as acromiohumeral distance ([AHD] ultrasonographic measurement at 0° and 60° of elevation arm). The rehabilitation program will include sensorimotor training, strengthening and education. tDCS will be apply during sensorimotor training on the motor cortex contralateral to the side of pain. A 2-way ANOVA will be used to analyse the effects of tDCS on the outcomes.

Additionally, it is not known how the amount of pressure applied may influence pain mechanisms or function in the symptomatic patellar tendon. Having this, our objective is to characterize the pressure applied during deep friction massage and evaluate the immediate effects of different pressures applied during deep friction massage in the time until analgesia as well as in function, in patellar tendinopathy.

Thus, the main purpose of this project is to test if the addition of low level laser therapy can enhance the treatment result of exercise and cryotherapy in patients with chronic Achilles tendinopathy, yielding less pain and higher function.

Shoulder PainRotator Cuff Injury2 moreRotator cuff related shoulder pain (RCRSP) is the most common shoulder disorder and its chronicization leads to multiple consequences such as early retirement, absenteeism from work, decreased participation and quality of life and expensive yearly healthcare costs (128 739 687 $ according to CNESST). Even though scientific evidence has shown that prioritising physiotherapy exercises over surgery for the initial management of RCRSP is a great way to save on healthcare costs without compromising quality, it does not always result in a resolution of symptoms and patients' quality of life can still be affected thereafter: up to 30% of people with RCRSP remain symptomatic despite rehabilitation interventions. This lack of therapeutic success could be explained by a multitude of factors, but a central issue that can explain a lack of improvement is an inappropriate dosage or choice of exercises prescribed. The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of 3 non-operative methods of delivering shoulder management (2 types of exercises and an advice and education only group) on symptoms and functional limitations for people with RCRSP. Results from this project should help us further our knowledge on which non-operative treatment to promote with patients presenting with RCRSP, thus decreasing the proportion of individuals experiencing pain even after going through a rehabilitation program.

The Effect of High Volume Injection With and Without Steroid in Chronic Achilles Tendinopathy
TendinopathyThe aim of the study is to determine the effect of steroid in High Volume Injection (HVI) compared to HVI without steroid (volume effect) in functional outcomes and ultrasound tendon thickness and Color Doppler activity in chronic Achilles tendinopathy (AT). Healthy males with AT will be randomly assigned to either 1) HVI with steroid (50 mls;10 mls 0.5% bupivacaine hydrochloride and 20 mg of Depomedrol followed by 40 ml saline) or 2) HVI without steroid (50 mls;10 mls 0.5% bupivacaine hydrochloride followed by 40 ml saline). All subjects will perform a 12-wk eccentric training program with further eccentric training 3 times per week from week 12 to week 24. Clinical examinations and ultrasound will be performed at baseline (before treatment) with follow-ups after 6 weeks, 12 weeks and again after 24 weeks prior to baseline to see any possible changes and differences between the two groups.
