Efficacy of Inertial Flywheel vs Heavy Slow Resistance Training Among Athletes With Patellar Tendinopathy...

Patellar TendinitisJumper's Knee

The purpose of this project is to investigate the efficacy of Inertial Flywheel Resistance program vs Heavy slow resistance in patients with chronic patellar tendinopathy. The investigators hypothesize that Inertial Flywheel Resistance program will yield a more positive clinical outcome and function in patients with patellar tendinopathy compared to heavy slow resistance group.

Does The Type of Exercise Influence Outcome in Rotator Cuff Related Shoulder Pain

Shoulder PainRotator Cuff Injury2 more

Rotator cuff related shoulder pain (RCRSP) is the most common shoulder disorder and its chronicization leads to multiple consequences such as early retirement, absenteeism from work, decreased participation and quality of life and expensive yearly healthcare costs (128 739 687 $ according to CNESST). Even though scientific evidence has shown that prioritising physiotherapy exercises over surgery for the initial management of RCRSP is a great way to save on healthcare costs without compromising quality, it does not always result in a resolution of symptoms and patients' quality of life can still be affected thereafter: up to 30% of people with RCRSP remain symptomatic despite rehabilitation interventions. This lack of therapeutic success could be explained by a multitude of factors, but a central issue that can explain a lack of improvement is an inappropriate dosage or choice of exercises prescribed. The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of 3 non-operative methods of delivering shoulder management (2 types of exercises and an advice and education only group) on symptoms and functional limitations for people with RCRSP. Results from this project should help us further our knowledge on which non-operative treatment to promote with patients presenting with RCRSP, thus decreasing the proportion of individuals experiencing pain even after going through a rehabilitation program.

Deep Friction Massage: Symptomatic

Tendinopathy

Despite DFM being a widely-used technique and the empirical grounding regarding the importance of the pressure applied, there is no study characterizing the pressure applied during DFM, remaining it a discretion of the physiotherapist. Additionally, it is not known how the amount of pressure applied may influence pain mechanisms or function in the symptomatic patellar tendon. Having this, our objective is to characterize the pressure applied during deep friction massage and evaluate the immediate effects of different pressures applied during deep friction massage in the time until analgesia as well as in function, in patellar tendinopathy.

The Acute Effects of an Isometric Loading Intervention on Lower Extremity Landing Biomechanics in...

Tendinopathy

The purpose of this study is to determine differences in lower extremity landing biomechanics and real-world physical activity between individuals with patellar tendinopathy compared to individuals without patellar tendinopathy, and to determine the acute effects of an isometric loading intervention on lower extremity landing biomechanics in individuals with patellar tendinopathy.

The Effect of High Volume Injection With and Without Steroid in Chronic Achilles Tendinopathy

Tendinopathy

The aim of the study is to determine the effect of steroid in High Volume Injection (HVI) compared to HVI without steroid (volume effect) in functional outcomes and ultrasound tendon thickness and Color Doppler activity in chronic Achilles tendinopathy (AT). Healthy males with AT will be randomly assigned to either 1) HVI with steroid (50 mls;10 mls 0.5% bupivacaine hydrochloride and 20 mg of Depomedrol followed by 40 ml saline) or 2) HVI without steroid (50 mls;10 mls 0.5% bupivacaine hydrochloride followed by 40 ml saline). All subjects will perform a 12-wk eccentric training program with further eccentric training 3 times per week from week 12 to week 24. Clinical examinations and ultrasound will be performed at baseline (before treatment) with follow-ups after 6 weeks, 12 weeks and again after 24 weeks prior to baseline to see any possible changes and differences between the two groups.

Physiotherapy Treatment for Chronic Achilles Tendinopathy

Achilles Tendinopathy

Laser treatment with the proper dosage has been found effective in the treatment of chronic Achilles tendinopathy, and animal research indicate that a combination of cryotherapy followed by LLLT could yield an even better result. Thus, the main purpose of this project is to test if the addition of low level laser therapy can enhance the treatment result of exercise and cryotherapy in patients with chronic Achilles tendinopathy, yielding less pain and higher function.

The Mechanical,Physiological and Therapeutic Effects of Eccentric Exercise Combined With Extracorporeal...

Patellar Tendinopathy

Patellar tendinopathy is one of the most common injuries in jumping athletes. Changes in mechanical and physiological properties of tendon are the two proposed forms of pathogenesis. The efficacy of eccentric exercise when applied alone and combined with extrocoporeal shockwave therapy had been reported; however, the underlying treatment mechanisms of pain and dysfunction are not clear. This project aimed to explore the mechanical, physiological and therapeutic effects of eccentric exercise when applied as a single treatment and as an adjunct to extracorporeal shockwave therapy.

Comparison of Two Different Treatment Effects on Individuals With Chronic Lateral Epicondylitis...

Tennis ElbowLateral Epicondylitis1 more

The aim of this study is to compare the effects of Radial Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (rESWT) treatment and Deep Friction Massage (DFM) treatment on pain, functionality, grip strength (GS), edema, range of motion (ROM) of the elbow and quality of life in individuals with chronic lateral epicondylitis (CLE). 36 individuals diagnosed with CLE will be randomly divided into two equal groups. rESWT treatment will be applied to Group 1 and DFM treatment to Group 2. Visual analogue scale will be used to assess pain severity, functionality with Patient-Rated Elbow Evaluation Turkish version (PRTEE-T), GS with digital dynamometer, ROM of the elbow joint with goniometer, edema with environmental measurement, and quality of life with Short Form 36 (SF-36).

Effectiveness of Laser Therapy on Proximal Hamstring Tendinopathy

TendinopathyLasers

Proximal hamstring tendinopathy (PHT) is tendinopathy of the semimembranosus and/or biceps femoris/semitendinosus complex. Previous studies have shown the efficacy of laser therapy in the treatment of tendinopathy. To the best of the investigator's knowledge, no study has compared the effects of high-power LASER therapy with conventional physiotherapy programs in proximal hamstring tendinopathy patients. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the effects of high-power laser therapy on pain and muscle power in proximal hamstring tendinopathy patients.
