"Follow-up of Midlines Placed Outside the Intensive Care Unit: What Side Effects? An Observational...

Thrombosis

Midline catheter is a peripherally-inserted catheter, with the distal tip being placed into the axillary vein. For some indications, it's an alternative to the peripheral insert central catheters in case of limited venous access and infusions less than one month. The Midline catheter is poorly described in scientific literature; therefore, the aim of the study is to determinate the incidence of adverse events (Infections and thrombosis) and risk factors for patients with this device.

18F-GP1 PET-CT to Detect Bioprosthetic Aortic Valve Thrombosis

Thrombosis CardiacAortic Valve Disease

18F-GP1 binds with high affinity to the glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptors on activated platelets. 18F-GP1 PET-CT has recently demonstrated favourable safety, pharmacokinetic, biodistribution and diagnostic performance for the in vivo identification of venous and arterial thrombemboli.

Compression Hosiery to Avoid Post-Thrombotic Syndrome

Deep Vein ThrombosisDeep Vein Thrombosis Leg1 more

Patients with a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) may develop long-term symptoms, e.g. lifelong leg pain, skin changes and occasionally ulceration, known as post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS). This affects about half of people with a history of DVT. This randomised study aims to show whether the regular use of a compression stocking after DVT in the leg, prevents long-term pain, swelling and ulceration. Currently small trials show varied results and a large trial is required to answer the question.

Pro-coagulant Markers and Anticoagulant Failure in Cancer Patients at Risk for Recurrence of Venous...

Venous ThromboembolismDeep-Vein Thrombosis2 more

The presence of clots in the veins of arms and/or legs or lungs of Cancer patients decreases their quality of life, delays their treatment and may cause death. The best way to avoid new clots is by giving blood thinners before clots are formed, but even some patients who are taking blood thinners may form blood clots. A major problem is that it is difficult to know which patients form clots while they are receiving blood thinners, a situation called treatment failure. Several studies have shown that by doing blood tests that measure the formation of clots, the investigators could know if the patient is responding to the blood thinners. If this is proven, the investigators will be able to apply these tests to all patients.

Assessment of Thrombotic Status in Patients at Risk of Cardiovascular Thrombosis

Atrial FibrillationCoronary Artery Disease

Patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and atrial fibrillation (AF) are at increased risk of stroke and heart attack. Such events are usually caused by increased stickiness of the blood causing a blood clot to block the artery (thrombus) in the heart or the brain. The aim of this study is to assess the stickiness of the blood (global thrombotic status) in patients with CAD and AF at baseline and after clinical stabilisation to see how disease state and clinical treatments affect the stickiness of the blood (thrombotic status). This will be a single centre study. Patients diagnosed with CAD or AF will have a blood sample taken at baseline and after clinical stabilisation. Blood stickiness will be tested with the Global Thrombosis Test. The results will be evaluated to assess the effect of disease process and clinical state on blood stickiness to gain further understanding of this condition and form the basis for future studies aimed at identifying patients who are at high risk of future cardiovascular events, based on increased blood stickiness.

Re-STOP DVT: Reload of High Dose Atorvastatin for Preventing Deep Vein Thrombosis in Statin Users...

ThrombosisPrevention1 more

Reload of high dose statin may have potential for preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients on statin undergoing total knee replacement arthroplasty. A body of evidence have been reported that reloading of atorvastatin have efficacy in reducing periprocedural myocardial infarction and contrast induced nephropathy. These effects are considered to be mainly due to their antioxidant anti-thrombotic and anti-inflammatory property. We, therefore, hypothesize that high dose atorvastatin re-loading may prevent DVT.
