Freiburg TIPS Registry

Liver CirrhosisPortal Hypertension4 more

Patients with clinically significant portal hypertension allocated to implantation of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) at the Department of Medicine II of the University Medical Center Freiburg, Germany will be offered to participate in this prospective observational trial. Clinical and laboratory as well as outcome parameters will be assessed before and within the first 12 months after TIPS implantation following a regular follow-up schedule with clinical visits at the University Medical Center Freiburg. During follow-up visits, serum/plasma samples and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) are collected and stored in a associated biobank.

Prospective Evaluation of Jugular Vein Thrombi After CPB Cervical Cannulation

Post-interventional VJI Thrombi After CPB

The primary objective of the study is to prospectively analyse the occurrence of post-interventional internal vena jugularis (VJI) thrombi after minimally invasive cardiac surgery using a VJI cannula to perform cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The study follows the question whether the performance of a jugular cannulation for the operation under CPB regularly causes wall thromboses despite continuous anticoagulation and a short length of stay of a few hours. The thromboses to be assessed for the study will be obtained by bedside (Doppler) sonography by experienced intensive care physicians in the cardiac surgery intensive care unit. A prospective analysis of all minimal invasive procedures performed with regard to thrombi in the VJI.

Incidence and Risk Factors of Venous Thrombosis of the Lower Limbs After Hospitalization in Medical...

Patients Hospitalized for More Than 48 HoursAcute Medical Illness

In Tunisia, the available data are limited regarding the incidence of venous thrombosis of the lower limbs (TVMI) post-hospitalization, whether symptomatic or subclinical. The thromboprophylactic strategy will certainly depend on the incidence of this complication and its severity. In this study, we performed a systematic screening for TVMI in a well-characterized cohort of patients discharged after hospitalization >48h for an acute medical condition.

Thromboembolism in Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia NervosaThrombosis1 more

BACKGROUND: Sudden death due to thromboembolic (TE) events in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) is well known. However, the incidence of TE events and the hemostatic balance in patients with AN are sparsely investigated. Also, associations between re-nutrition and the hemostatic balance have not been studied. OBJECTIVE: To describe the incidence of TE events in patients with AN compared to the background population, to characterize the hemostatic balance in AN compared to normal-weight women, and to assess the associations between the hemostatic balance and nutritional status, insulin sensitivity and cortisol level in women with AN. METHODS: The incidence of TE will be described using a Danish cohort of AN patients (n=10,049) with follow-up in national registries. A comprehensive battery of hemostatic biomarkers will be compared in a case-control study of 40 patients with AN and associations between hemostasis and nutritional status will be studied.

Platelet Activation Affecting the Rate of Vascular Access Patency

Platelet ActivationHemodialysis Fistula Thrombosis

In the case of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, and peripheral arterial disease, there are many studies that the use of antiplatelet agents is very helpful in improving the vascular patency rate, but there are not many studies on the use of antiplatelet agents in the dialysis approach. The basis for use is insufficient. There is a lack of research on whether maintaining a state in which platelet activation is suppressed is helpful in improving dialysis access patency. Therefore, we conducted this study to determine whether the degree of platelet activation affects the patency of vascular access.

A Prospective Study to Assess the Risk Factors That Contribute to Thrombosis in Patients With Lower...

ThrombosesVenous1 more

This study is aimed at identifying patients at high risk for Venous Thrombo-Embolism (VTE) (clots in the veins of legs or clots in the lungs) who have lower limb injuries treated with immobilisation of the lower limb. The study aims to identify high risk patients, who may benefit from thromboprophylaxis (blood thinning medication) to prevent such clots forming. To do this we will collect data on 3500 patients who present with lower limb injury requiring immobilisation to the Emergency Departments of the six hospitals named. We will assess their risk factors for venous thrombosis at the time of presentation and contact them at twelve weeks to assess if they have had a VTE in order to develop a risk scoring system which can be used to predict the likelihood of VTE development This risk scoring system can then be used to identify high risk patients who may benefit from thromboprophylaxis.
