The aims are to determine the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and HRQOL preference (utility) of patients undergoing watchful observation (no FNAC) and routine FNAC, and to determine the cost-effectiveness of two strategies in managing small incidental thyroid nodules for the Chinese population in Hong Kong.

Effect of Dill in Thyroiditis and Nodular Goiter Patients
Thyroid NoduleThe aim of the study was to investigate the functional and morphological effects of Anethum graveolens L. in patients with thyroiditis and nodular goiter by evaluating hormone levels, anti-Inflammatory markers and comparing thyroid nodule sizes measured by ultrasonography for 90 days. The effect of Anethum graveolens L. was evaluated in euthyroid goiter patients diagnosed with benign thyroid nodule via fine needle aspiration biopsy. Aerial parts of Anethum graveolens L. were dried and grinded to yield a fine powder. Size 1 hydroxypropyl methylcellulose capsules were filled with 300 mg powder. Placebo was prepared in the same manner using maltodextrin. Patients were suggested to take 3 pills a day. Blood samples were collected at the initial and the final day for thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine (fT3), free thyroxine (fT4), anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO), anti-thyroglobulin (Anti-Tg) and C-reactive protein (CRP) analysis. Nodule sizes were also measured at the beginning and at the end of the trial with ultrasonography to identify the changes and effectiveness of dill dosage forms. After 90 days in the study, the status of TSH, fT3, fT4, anti-TPO and CRP levels were examined in the group with and without Anethum graveolens L.. Again, after the study, the size of thyroid nodules was evaluated in the group who received and did not receive Anethum graveolens L. by ultrasonography.

Low calcium levels can cause symptoms such as numbness around the mouth, tingling or cramping in the hands and feet, severe muscle spasms, inability to breathe, or heart rhythm (heart beat) abnormalities. Severe symptoms are life threatening, so it is important to start the management of these symptoms in the hospital. Treating low calcium levels sometimes require patients to spend a few extra days in the hospital. The human body needs vitamin D to function and stay healthy. Vitamin D helps the body get the calcium needed to make strong bones and teeth. The purpose of this study is to determine if taking vitamin D before surgery to remove the thyroid gland affects whether or not you may have low calcium levels after your surgery and to test the hypothesis that those who are given the Vitamin D before surgery will have decreased hypocalcemia and a shortened hospital stay.

Nodules left untreated seem to have a slight growth potential in borderline iodine-deficient areas. Interstitial laser photo-coagulation (ILP) is a procedure for local hyperthermia and photocoagulation, allowing minimally invasive treatment of benign tumors, including thyroid nodules. The aim of these studies are to evaluate if ILP will be useful in reducing the volume of the benign thyroid nodule and thyroid function will be unaffected in euthyroid patients, and normalized in pretoxic- and toxic thyroid nodules. In this study, the investigators aimed to investigate the anesthetic effect of sevoflurane combined with dexmedetomidine for neuromonitoring during thyroid surgery. The investigators hypothesize that sevoflurane combined with dexmedetomidine can reduce the movement or spontaneous activity of vocal cords in patients and without affecting the EMG signals.
