Smoking Treatment and Anxiety Management Program
Nicotine DependenceThe Smoking Treatment and Anxiety Management Program (STAMP) is a treatment program focused on helping people manage their anxiety while quitting smoking. The study involves coming in to our clinic for 4 treatment sessions, with follow-ups for up to 2 years (a week 1, week 2, month 1, month 3, month 6, year 1, and year 2 follow-up). Participants will be paid $142.50 for their full participation as well as receive 6 weeks of free nicotine replacement patches.

Nicotine DependencePrevious results from the investigators' Center have shown that combination treatment with Chantix and Zyban is more successful in helping men quit smoking. The investigators hope to replicate these findings with this study.
A Facebook Intervention for Young Sexual and Gender Minority Smokers
Tobacco UseSmoking9 moreThe 2-year research plan will test the Put It Out Project (POP) in a pilot randomized trial (N=120) compared to TSP and two historical control conditions. Participants will be young adults who smoke, identify as sexual or gender minorities, and use Facebook. The primary outcome will be biochemically verified 7-day abstinence from smoking at 3 and 6 months. Secondary outcomes will be a quit attempt (y/n), stage of change, and thoughts about tobacco abstinence at 3 and 6 mos.
Varenicline-Aided Cigarette Reduction in Smokers Not Ready to Quit
Tobacco Use DisorderThe investigators will randomize smokers to receive 1) Varenicline + smoking cessation/reduction counseling or 2) Placebo pill + smoking cessation/reduction counseling. Neither the participants nor the research therapists/evaluators will know to which condition (active or placebo pill) the participants have been assigned i.e., a double-blind study). The medication and weekly counseling will occur for 28 days. Participants will complete assessment measures just before the start of treatment (baseline), at the end-of-treatment, at 1-month, 3-month, and at 6-months to determine if there are differences in tobacco use between treatment groups.
