Study of Bupropion Versus Bupropion + Naltrexone for Smoking Cessation
Tobacco Use DisorderThe purpose of this study is to compare the effects of bupropion + placebo to bupropion + naltrexone as treatments to help smokers quit.
TNS for Treating Nicotine Craving
Nicotine CravingElectrical stimulation provides direct modulatory effects on subcortical regions. Indeed, neuroimaging studies show changes in neural activity in specific brain regions such as the amygdala, insula, precentral gyrus, hippocampus and thalamus. The neuroanatomical connections established with the trigeminal nerve have been associated with the mechanism called "bottom-up" neuromodulation. According to this hypothesis, the spread of electrical stimulation follows a path from the peripheral nerves towards the brain stem was then advertise for cortical and subcortical regions. Connections to structures involved in the reward system as the amygdala and hippocampus could theoretically modulate dysfunctional brain activity in these regions, which may induce favorable clinical effects.
Impact of Nicotine Messaging on Nicotine Beliefs and Tobacco Use Behavior
Nicotine DependenceCigarettesThis is a 2-arm, randomized controlled, population based trial to test the impact of multiple exposures to brief nicotine corrective messages among adult tobacco cigarette smokers and non-smokers followed in waves over 12 weeks. The primary outcome, assessed at wave 1 (baseline), wave 2 (weeks 5-6), and wave 4 (weeks 11-13) is nicotine beliefs. Secondary outcomes assessed at the same time points include intention to use nicotine/tobacco products and nicotine/tobacco use.
Targeted Intervention for Bipolar Smokers
Nicotine DependenceBipolar DisorderThe purpose of this research is to develop and test a new type of smoking cessation counseling for individuals with bipolar disorder.
Drug /Cue Interactions In Alcohol-Tobacco Comorbidity
Nicotine DependenceThe purpose of this study is to determine how people react to different combinations of alcohol and nicotine.
Prevention of Nicotine Abstinence in Critically Ill Patients After Major Surgery
Nicotine DependenceThe primary objective of this study is to determine whether the application of transdermal nicotine patches in critically ill patients after major surgery with nicotine abstinence condition is associated with a lower incidence of delirium.
Promoting Home Smoking Restrictions: Biomarker Feedback to Smoking and Non-Smoking Adults
Smoking CessationTobacco Use DisorderThis study is directed at decreasing home environmental tobacco smoking (ETS) exposure with a novel approach of adoption of home smoking restrictions. This will be done by providing the cohabitating smoker and non-smoker with biomarker feedback documenting exposure to ETS. The intent is to identify an intervention strategy(ies) to reduce ETS exposure.
Efficacy and Safety of Combination EMB-001 as a Potential Smoking Cessation Treatment
Smoking CessationTobacco Use DisorderThis open-label study will evaluate EMB-001, comprised of metyrapone, a cortisol synthesis inhibitor marketed as a diagnostic drug for testing hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis function, combined with oxazepam, an anxiolytic and sedative/hypnotic benzodiazepine, to help smokers abstain from smoking during a 12-week trial period.
Flexiquit+: Web Program to Promote Smoking Cessation in Sexual and Gender Minority Young Adult Smokers...
Tobacco Use DisorderThis phase I trial studies how well Flexiquit+ helps young adult smokers who identify as a sexual and/or gender minority to quit or cut down on smoking. Flexiquit+ is an avatar-led, web-based intervention that can help smokers quit or cut back on how much they smoke cigarettes and/or vape, reducing their chances of developing tobacco-related health conditions.
Effects of Stimulant Dependence on Human Striatal Dopamine System - 15
Amphetamine-Related DisordersTobacco Use DisorderThe purpose of this study is to determine whether DAT availability, assessed by WIN binding, in the striatum is altered in cocaine or methamphetamine dependence. To determine whether DA synthesis capacity, assessed by FDOPA uptake, in the striatum is altered in Coc or Meth dependence. To determine whether the PET tracers, WIN or FDOPA, will differentiate Meth induced alterations from those induced by Coc use. To determine whether the PET characterization of striatal alterations observed at 3-5 days since last drug use persists at least 3 months after last drug use.
