Oral Specimen and Data Acquisition Study of Subjects Requiring Third Molar Removal
StomatognaticTooth Diseases3 moreBackground: - The third molars (wisdom teeth) normally grow in during late adolescence or early adulthood. Many people need or choose to have these teeth removed with oral surgery. Normally, the removed teeth and tissue are thrown away as medical waste. However, oral health researchers want to collect the teeth and tissue for research. They also want to encourage dentists at the National Institutes of Health to improve their skills in oral surgery. This study will collect the teeth and tissue of people who need to have oral surgery to remove their wisdom teeth. Objectives: To provide continued dental skills training for dentists at the National Institutes of Health. To collect teeth and tissue samples following wisdom tooth removal surgery. Eligibility: - Individuals between 16 and 50 who need to have their wisdom teeth removed. Design: This study will involve a minimum of three visits. There will be a screening visit, a surgery visit, and at least one follow-up visit. Participants will be screened with a physical exam and medical history. A full dental exam with x-rays will be given to evaluate the need for surgery. At the second visit, participants will have oral surgery to remove their wisdom teeth. The teeth and tissue removed during the surgery will be collected for study. Participants will receive drugs to control the pain after surgery. They will also be able to contact a dentist if there are any problems. Between 7 and 21 days after surgery, participants will have a followup visit to check the healing. If they are having no problems, this will be the last visit. If there are any postsurgery issues, they will be scheduled for additional visits as needed.

Tooth DiseasesTooth WearThe goal of this clinical trial is to test the effects of prophylactic antibiotics in healthy individuals who are in need of surgical crown lengthening. The main question it aims to answer is if single dose antibiotics prior to surgical crown lengthening has any effects on the healing outcomes. Participants will be asked to take either 2 g of amoxicillin + clavulanate, or placebo, one hour prior to surgery and without knowing what medicine they took. Researchers will compare the wound healing and self-reported outcomes of the antibiotics group and placebo group.

The investigators will collect samples from patients with a motor neuron or a neuromuscular disorder and their family members. The samples to be collected will be obtained using minimally invasive (whole blood) means. The research team will then extract high quality genomic DNA or RNA from these samples and use it to identify and confirm novel gene mutations and to identify genes which regulate the severity of motor neuron/neuromuscular diseases.

The quantitative data obtained after a standardized postural examination appear relevant for the longitudinal follow-up of neuromuscular patients and hemiparetic patients. Neuro muscular (NM) diseases are progressive, these instrumental evaluations can highlight a deterioration or stabilization of postural control possibly not observable with the scores on clinical scales. The K-Force Plates, recently developed appear to be an interesting alternative to the stabilometry platforms currently used. Static and dynamic conditions in upright position are tested. Moreover, posturologic, kinematics data and clinical scores are correlated to increase understanding of strategies during postural control tasks in patients with stroke and in patients with NM disorders.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth DiseaseThe COMMIT Study will assess the safety and effectiveness of FLX-787 in men and women with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) experiencing muscle cramps. Participants will be asked to take two study products during the course of the study. One of these study products will be a placebo. Approximately 120 participants in 20 study centers across the United States are expected to take part. Participants will be in the study for approximately 3 months and visit the study clinic 3 times.
