Prospective observational study with 7-year follow up. 55 patients are included with moderate to severe tooth wear, whereby through informed consent the decision was taking to monitor the patients. At the baseline and 1, 3 5, and the 7-year recall digital 3D scans will be made, which will be compared and subtracted.

Can Surface Roughness Predict Progression of Tooth Wear?

The clinical study was a single-blind, randomised intervention study to measure surface changes of polished and unpolished enamel in situ following an orange juice acid challenge. Ethical approval for the study was granted by the Stanmore Health Research Authority REC ref 15/LO/0417, and the study was conducted per the guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. The study investigated a total 6 erosion regimes divided in 3 different erosion times plus ex vivo immersion in orange juice drink versus in vivo rinsing of the same orange juice drink.

Association Between Erosive Tooth Wear Progression and Dietary Risk Factors.

Study to determine if whether or not exist an association between the tissue loss (ETW progression) and the frequency of an acidic diet. To accomplish the aim, a quantitative analysis of intraoral scans of study models will be performed to identify erosive tooth wear progression in a group of Chilean adolescents. First, participants with different intake of dietary acids will be compared in terms of their baseline sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. Second, the association between baseline frequency of dietary acids and changes in volume loss over time will be evaluated using linear mixed models to account for the data structure (repeated assessments nested within teeth and teeth nested within children). Models will be adjusted for demographic factors, family socioeconomic position, health behaviours and chronic conditions.

To characterize the microstructure (fracture toughness, particle size of ceramic, and inter-particle spacing) of three ceramic materials To test the hypothesis that lower fracture toughness of glass and/or crystal phase in ceramics reduce wear damage of enamel. To test the hypothesis that smaller sized crystals reduce wear damage of enamel. To test the hypothesis that larger inter-particle spacing reduces wear damage of enamel. To test the hypothesis that equivalent wear patterns exist in all directions between enamel versus enamel and ceramic versus enamel. To test the hypothesis that bite force does not correlate with wear rates. To test the hypothesis that salivary flow does not correlate with wear rates. To test the hypothesis that a greater amount of wear is not associated with a loss in vertical dimension of occlusion. Relationship Between Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease and Dental Erosion

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and dental erosion and the alterations in oral tissues. This was a case-control study. The GERD group consisted of 50 individuals with endoscopic esophagitis who had gastroesophageal reflux symptoms, and the control group consisted of 50 healthy individuals. The prevalence of teeth wear and caries was evaluated using the Smith and Knight tooth wear index (TWI) and the decayed, missing, and filled teeth index (DMFT), respectively. Inflammatory mouth sensitivity, tongue sensitivity, nonspecific itching and burning, halitosis, dry mouth, teeth sensitivity, and the erythema of the soft and hard palatal mucosa and uvula were also evaluated. Stimulated saliva samples were collected, and the salivary flow rate, pH, and buffering capacity values were measured.

Objectives To compare oral health (dental caries, periodontal status, and erosive tooth wear (ETW)), diet and oral hygiene habits between obese and normal weight adolescents, and to explore possible risk associations. Materials and Methods In this case-control study, a convenient sample of 81 obese adolescents (age range 11-18) from a rehabilitation centre, and 81 age-sex-matched normal weight adolescents were selected. Groups were defined using the Body Mass Index and growth curves for Flemish. Oral health was measured using DMFT, gingival, plaque and BEWE index. A validated questionnaire was utilized to assess diet and oral hygiene habits.

The overall objective was to evaluate the monitoring of tooth wear using the intraoral scanner. Forty-six participants were selected according to the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Monitoring of tooth wear, evaluation of possible aetiological factors, as well as patient satisfaction with the use of the intraoral scanner were carried out.

This is a questionnaire based study investigating the relationship between the timing of dietary acid intake toothbrushing and erosive tooth wear. Data will be collected on the timing, nature, frequency and duration of dietary acid intakes and timing and frequency of the participants toothbrushing. Signs of the participants erosive tooth wear will then be recorded

DIMOH: New Digital Methods for Monitoring Oral Health. An in Vivo Assessment

The objectives of this study are i) to monitor the oral health of young people over a period of one year and ii) to assess the ability of a new intraoral scanner combining fluorescence with 3D imaging to detect and monitor changes in the dental hard tissues in vivo. The working hypotheses of this study are that i) the monitoring of oral health will benefit from using a new intraoral scanner combining fluorescence with 3D imaging and ii) the new intraoral scanner combining fluorescence with 3D imaging will aid dentists to identify changes in the dental hard tissues at earlier stages than the traditional diagnostic methods (i.e. visual-tactile, radiographic methods).
