Effects of a Short-term Exercise Intervention on Sleep in Women Exposed to Trauma: A Randomized...
Traumatic Stress DisorderPost Traumatic Stress Disorder3 moreThis study aims to test whether sleep improvements, following 6 weeks of high-intensity interval training exercise among adult women exposed to a traumatic event, are mediated by improvements in heart rate variability or decreased anxiety and hyperarousal symptoms.
A Trauma-Informed Intervention for Positive Youth Development and Teacher Wellness in Rural Montana...
Trauma and Stressor Related DisordersCompared to U.S. urban counterparts, rural residents face major barriers to using health care services. Challenges include shortages of services, long distances to existing services, and stigma regarding mental illness in isolated communities. These difficulties hold true for Montana, but especially for adolescents. The objective of A Trauma-Informed Intervention for Positive Youth Development and Teacher Wellness in Rural Montana is to improve stress-related mental and physical health outcomes for adolescents and educators in rural Montana through school-based, trauma-informed yoga exercises. This research demonstrates that this intervention is linked to improvements in mental (anxiety and depression) and physical health (cortisol) for students. This project builds on investigators' previous research (including a two-year CAIRHE pilot study, 2019-21) to promote positive youth development by simultaneously intervening with students and teachers with a trauma-informed yoga intervention. Geographic isolation and resulting lack of resources for many Montanan schools indicates a need for novel, school-centered interventions to address the needs of rural adolescents; yoga can benefit youth and teacher wellbeing.
Body Therapy for War Veterans With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Stress DisordersPost-Traumatic4 moreThe present study is a randomized, controlled trial that compares a certain type of body therapy, called ManuVision, to treatment as usual (TAU) in war veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The purpose of the study is to determine whether participation in the body therapy treatment by war veterans who have PTSD, will reduce symptoms of PTSD and depression, and improve quality of life, function level and body awareness. Study hypotheses state that the ManuVision approach, compared to the treatment as usual, will be more effective at reducing the PTSD symptoms experienced by veterans because it will help the veterans learning to become aware of, accept the PTSD symptoms, reading their own emotional state and gain body awareness and subsequently have emotional control and improved coping mechanism when PTSD symptoms arise. The awareness, accept and improved coping mechanisms means that the nervous system is not under the same pressure and that PTSD symptoms therefore may be reduced.
Posttraumatic Stress Disorders in Police, Correctional Service Officers, and 911 Operators
Trauma and Stressor Related DisordersPost-traumatic Stress Disorders2 morePolice officers, correctional service officers, and 911-operators are at increased risk for suffering from trauma-related disorders due to their direct and indirect exposure to life-threatening events, such as shootings, violent assaults, or car accidents, among others. Typical treatments for post-traumatic stress disorders include psychotherapy and pharmacological therapies (i.e., antidepressants). Although these interventions are effective for many sufferers, they all have limitations. Thus, the investigators propose to explore the usefulness of a new therapeutic technique, reconsolidation blockade, which involves reactivating the trauma memory while under the influence of propranolol. Objectives and hypotheses: To explore the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of reconsolidation blockade therapy as an adjunct treatment for trauma- and stressor-related disorders as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Mental Disorders-5. The investigators hypothesize that, compared to the control group, 5 weekly trauma-memory reactivations under propranolol treatment will confer a significant reduction in trauma-related symptoms and significantly more health-related economic benefits. Stress symptoms and health-related costs will be assessed at 7, 26 and 52 weeks after study inclusion. In this study, the investigators will also explore the effects of reconsolidation blockade with propranolol on various neuropsychological functions.
Psychometric Properties of the SMART Feeding Tool
Feeding; DifficultNewborn8 moreThis observational study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of a new infant feeding tool called "SMART Tool" in the neonatal intensive care unit. The main questions it aims to answer are: To design a feeding tool to assess oral motor and neurobehavioral skills in neonates To establish psychometrics of the new tool by doing reliability and validity tests.
