Comparison of Virtual Reality and Passive Distraction on Burn Wound Care Pain in Adolescents

BurnsWound Care1 more

Relief of severe burn wound care pain may require both medications to relieve pain and non-medication interventions, such as distraction. Little is known about distraction's effectiveness. Virtual reality may be an effective distraction. The aims of this study are 1)to evaluate the effect of virtual reality (VR), a newer interactive kind of distraction, compared to passive distraction (PD) by watching a movie, and usual care (SC) that is provided by the nurses, on pain experienced by adolescents during burn wound care and 2)to determine the relationship among anxiety, desire for distraction, and engagement with distraction on the pain.

Pressure Injury Prevention in AE and PFC

Pressure InjuryMilitary Activity

This study evaluates the effect of a multilayer skin dressing (Mepilex) placed on the sacrum or a fluid filled pad (LiquiCell) on risk factors for pressure injuries under conditions consistent with military long-distance transport or prolonged field care. Participants will be assigned to one of six groups - air transport, air transport on a spinal immobilization surface with or without Mepilex or on a field stretcher with or without LiquiCell.

SAFIR© : An Early Intervention for Supporting Families of Patients With Acquired Brain Injuries...

Acquired Brain Injury

The aim of the study is to evaluate the feasibility of a newly developed intervention to improve family support for patient with acquired brain injury (ABI) in early phase of hospitalization (SAFIR): the main components are the assessment of the family, the emotional support for the families, the information giving to the families, the inclusion of the families in the care process and the care coordination between the inter professional team. The main outcomes of the study are feasibility and acceptability outcomes of the newly developed intervention, and trend in efficacy in the family functioning, coping and perceived support from the nurses.

Prevention to Pressure Injury With Care Bundle

Pressure Injury

Aim: The study was conducted in order to evaluate of pressure injury prevention care bundle application in intensive care unit patients diagnosed with internal diseases. Background: Although a pressure injury is a problem that requires treatment for a long time and takes time to heal, it is possible to prevent it with appropriate interventions. Evidence for the prevention of pressure injuries suggests using evidence-based guidelines or care bundles. Design: Quasi-experimental and control group study. Methods: The study was conducted on 98 patients, 49 in the control group and 49 in the intervention group, diagnosed with internal diseases and hospitalized in the intensive care unit of a training and research hospital between July-December 2021. In the collection of the study data, patient information form, pressure injury prevention care bundle tool, and Braden Risk Scale were used. While routine clinical care continued to be provided to the patients in the control group, pressure injury prevention care bundle was applied to the patients in the intervention group.

Effects of Eccentric Hamstring Training in Prevention of Hamstring Injuries in Sprinters

Sport Injury

The goal of this clinical trail is to determine the effects of eccentric hamstring training, in prevention of hamstring injuries in sports involving sprinting among club level athletes. The main question it aims to answer is : - Will eccentric exercises have an effect in the recovery of hamstring injuries and injury prevention in sprint performance sports among club-level athletes. Participants will be divided into two groups. Control group will perform conventional training program and interventional group will perform eccentric exercises.

SEPREVEN: a Stepped-wedge Randomised Controlled Trial

Intensive Care UnitsNeonatal12 more

Adverse events are frequent in Neonatal Intensive Care Units' (NICU) patients and account for a high morbidity and mortality. Possible severe adverse events are central line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI), ventilator and catheter associated adverse events and medication errors. Severity of the patient's outcome after an adverse event can be classified using the National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Preventing (NCC MERP) Index for categorizing medication errors. The study will test the hypothesis that rates of adverse events in NICU patients will be reduced by the implementation of an educational program for the NICU caregivers (nurses and physicians), consisting of strategies for recognizing and preventing adverse events in their unit. These strategies will be oriented to prevent CLABSI, medication errors, skin and nasal complications and ventilator and catheter-associated adverse events. This trial has a stepped wedge cluster design, in which the NICUs from 12 hospitals in France will be randomized to the timing of implementation of the educational program. In order to describe the adverse events occurring during the study period, an anonymous voluntary adverse event reporting system will be provided to the caregivers of the participating units. A nested study will examine how caregivers communicate with the patients' parents in case of adverse event (disclosure or not, and caregivers' reasons). The rates of adverse events will be measured retrospectively using a neonatal NICU trigger tool.

Safety and Efficacy of D-PLEX in the Prevention of Sternal Infection Post Cardiac Surgery

Postoperative Wound Infection Superficial IncisionalPostoperative Wound Infection Deep Incisional Surgical Site

This study is aimed to assess the anti-infective efficacy of D-PLEX over a period of 3 months post operation as well as the safety over a period of 6 months, by preventing sternal infection post cardiac surgery in patients above the age of 18, including high risk patients for infection. This study is a 2 parts study: part 1 is a single arm, part 2 is randomized controlled study.

Alternating Pressure Overlay on Weight Bearing Tissue Tolerance in People With Spinal Cord Injury...

Spinal Cord InjuriesPressure Ulcer

The purpose of this study is to test if the newly-developed Dabir alternating pressure (AP) overlay could be beneficial to preventing skin damage during daily activities, such as lying in bed. Specifically, the study is being done to test if the Dabir AP overlay could be used to increase skin tolerance when lying in bed for an extended period of time (40 minutes), including reducing pressure and increasing skin blood flow (amount of blood supply to oxygen and nutrients to skin) as compared to regular operation room (OR) overlay. A total of 20 participants with spinal cord injury will be recruited. Subjects will undergo study procedures including: AP and Control protocols. Skin blood flow and interface pressure will be collected non-invasively (from outside the body) during both protocols. During AP protocols, subject will be asked to lie on side (10 min), on back on AP overlay (40 min), on side (30 min), on back on OR overlay (40 min), and on side (10 min). During Control protocol, subject will be asked to lie on side (10 min), on back on OR overlay (40 min), and on side (10 min). Subject will then proceed to vascular control measures, including: non-invasive skin blood flow and tissue oxygen measurements with mild heating and electrical stimulation. Findings from this study will help us understand the effectiveness of the AP overlay on skin blood flow response during prolonged lying in bed.
