Periodontal Wound Healing With CHX and Hyaluronic Acid
Surgical FlapsWound Healing1 moreBackround: No data on the adjunctive effects of hyaluronic acid (HA) in a post-surgery, chlorhexidine (CHX) - based plaque control regimen are available. Also, contrasting evidence is available regarding the efficacy of CHX-based formulations containing anti-discoloration system (ADS). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the post-surgery gingival healing as well as plaque, gingival inflammation, and staining levels following the use of a 0.2% chlorhexidine (CHX) solution with or without anti-discoloration system (ADS) and 0.2% hyaluronic acid (HA). Methods: Patients undergoing flap surgery at sites with an intact or reduced but healthy periodontium participated in a parallel-arm RCT. After surgery, patients used the assigned mouthrinse (CHX+HA+ADS or CHX) for 21 days. At day 7 and 21, the Gingival Healing Index (GHI) was used to assess the quality of flap closure at the interdental papilla. Plaque index (PlI), Gingival Index (GI), Angulated bleeding score (AngBS), tooth and tongue staining were also assessed.
Different Platelet Concentrates After Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty Evaluation of Its Effect on...
Wound HealGingival Overgrowth2 moreThe aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of PRF, CGF and AFG application on early wound healing after gingivectomy and gingivoplasty operations. In the study designed split mouth, gingivectomy and gingivoplasty surgery were performed on 19 patients. The postoperative PRF, CGF, and AFG applied areas were compared with the control regions. 0th,7 th,14 th and 28 th on the days, the surgical area was painted with mira-2-tone solution and evaluated in the ImageJ program. Measurements of clinical periodontal parameters including PI, GI, SC and SD were recorded at the beginning, after IPT and 28 days after the operation. Wound healing was evaluated with H2O2 test, VAS-Pain, and LTH index on 7th, 14th and 28th days. The patients were asked to evaluate their aesthetic perceptions on the VAS aesthetic scale.

The Effect of Hypnotic Suggestion After Acquired Brain Injury or Concussion
Acquired Brain InjuryConcussion1 moreA recent randomized clinical trial (RCT) demonstrated large effects of hypnotic suggestion on working memory following acquired brain injury. However, no studies have investigated long-term effects (> 2 months) effects on return to work (RTW). Therefore the aim is in a RCT to study the effect of hypnotic suggestion on RTW in employed individuals with acquired brain injury or concussion, that were referred to an out-patient municipal vocational rehabilitation center in Denmark. Participants were randomized to a passive (treatment as usual), active comparison (a weekly treatment session of mindfullness-based stress reduction for four weeks) or intervention group (a weekly treatment session of targeted suggestion for four weeks). Intention-to-treat analysis of the hypnosis effect on return to work within six months follow-up will be performed. Results Participants (N=77) have accepted and participated in the study. Effect measures are to be analysed.

Early Healing of Oral Soft Tissues: a Clinical and Biomolecular Analysis. Part III
Wound HealWound Surgical2 moreThe purpose of the present study is to evaluate the effect of Hyaluronic acid application in the gene expression profile and cellular behavior in the early wound healing process -24 hours after injury- of the oral soft tissues.
What is the Optimal Stiffness and Height of a Running-specific Prosthesis?
AmputationTraumatic2 moreThe proposed study aims to characterize the effects of running-specific leg prosthetic stiffness and height during on performance during running and sprinting to optimize running-specific prosthesis prescription. The investigators will collect biomechanical and metabolic data from participants with unilateral and bilateral below the knee amputations while they run at different speeds on a treadmill. This data will be used to understand the effects of running prostheses. Then, these parameters will be used to develop prosthetic prescription techniques for people with below the knee amputations.
Recovery of Cardiovascular Function With Epidural Stimulation After Human Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal Cord InjuryWe propose to demonstrate that epidural stimulation (ES) can be used to recover significant levels of autonomic control of cardiovascular and respiratory function as well as the ability to voluntarily control leg movements below the injury level. This intervention would provide an immediate therapeutic alternative to individuals who now have no recourse for treatment.
Microfinance Intervention to Improve Health of Trauma Survivors in DRC
Mental DisordersMultiple TraumaThe objective is to test the effectiveness of a village-led microfinance program, Pigs for Peace, on health, household economic stability, and reintegration of trauma survivors to family and community. The five-year experimental trial will use mixed-methods to address the following aims: Determine the effectiveness of a village-led microfinance program on participants health and reintegration in intervention households compared to participants in delayed control households. Health and reintegration will be measured at baseline and six, twelve, and 18-months post-baseline using self-report in both intervention and delayed control groups. We hypothesize that at six, twelve and 18 months post-baseline participants in intervention households will have improved health and increased reintegration to families in comparison to participants in control households. Determine the effectiveness of a village-led microfinance program on household economic stability in intervention households compared to delayed control villages. Household economic stability will be measured at baseline and six, twelve and 18 months post- baseline using self-report in both intervention and control households. We hypothesize that at six, twelve and 18-months post-baseline the intervention households will have improved household economic stability in comparison to control households. Examine the role of a village-led microfinance program on village-level health, economics, stigma and reintegration of survivors and their families in intervention and delayed control villages. Village members (n=5 in each village, n=50 total) will complete a baseline and 18 month post-baseline qualitative interview to examine the role of microfinance on village-level health, economics, stigma and reintegration in both intervention and control households.
Integrated Client Care Project Trial: Wound Care Evaluation
WoundThis study will use a randomized control trial design to compare wound care clients who receive "integrated care" versus "usual care" in Community Care Access Centres (CCAC) in Ontario. Data will be collected by existing administrative databases and linked by the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES). The researchers will analyze these databases and report findings.
