Median Sternotomy in Penetrating Cardiac Trauma
Trauma ChestThe investigators aim to assess role of median sternotomy in penetrating cardiac trauma regarding morbidity and mortality of the patients.
Core Stability Measures as a Risk Factor for the Development of Lower Extremity Injuries in Physical...
Leg InjuriesMale and female physical education students were subjected to a clinical test battery comprised of valid and reliable tests to measure different aspects of core stability at the start of the study. After a period of 2 months testing, the injury registration procedure started with the use of an online injury registration platform and regular call back moments. After 2 years of injury registration, all data was gathered and will be analysed statistically to link the measured core stability aspects as risk factors for certain lower extremity injuries.
Oculomotor Assessment of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Traumatic Brain InjuryThe purpose of the proposed study is to compare the sensitivity and specificity of three oculomotor test devices in normal subjects versus subjects with history of TBI. The study is designed as a prospective research project in which a group of 120 normal controls without a history of TBI will be compared to another group of 120 participants (total of 240) who have a confirmed history of TBI. Each participant will complete the TBI assessment protocol for each of three separate devices (Neuro Kinetics, SyncThink, and Oculogica). The order of the devices will be counter-balanced across participants. Participants will also be screened for vestibular migraine and visual vertigo, which are two conditions that influence oculo-vestibular perception in normal and TBI patients and might influence the results from the three oculomotor devices. Data from each device will be utilized to perform AUC analyses to determine the respective sensitivity and specificity for each.
Role of Subcutaneous Negative Pressure Suction Drain Placed for Ten Days on Wound Healing in Obese...
Postoperative Wound HealingThe aim of the study is to evaluate the role of subcutaneous negative pressure drain placed for 10 days on wound healing in female obese patients undergoing midline exploratory laparotomies for ovarian cancer.
Biomarker Guided Intervention for Prevention of Acute Kidney Injury
Acute Kidney InjuryThis study evaluates the impact of a biomarked guided intervention on the development of acute kidney injury in high risk surgical patients. Eligible patients are screened for marker of tubular stress in the urine; if patient specific results are above a pre-defined cutoff they are randomized into a standard care group or an interventional group in which patients receive intensified volume therapy.
Swiss Army Physical Fitness Training
Wounds and InjuriesPhysical Activity3 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether the new sport concept of the Swiss Armed Forces influences the physical and psychological fitness of the recruits.
Prevena Vascular Groin Wound Study
Wound InfectionPeripheral Arterial Disease2 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine if the application of a negative pressure dressing intraoperatively (Prevena; KCI, Inc) to vascular groin incisions decreases the wound complication rate in high risk patients.
Comparing the Clinical Outcomes of DermACELL® With Integra® Bilayer Wound Matrix
WoundsChronic Wounds1 moreBoth DermACELL® and Integra® Bilayer Wound Matrix are indicated for deep soft tissue coverage and serve as a biological matrix for cellular migration. The current thinking about the utility of these products is to apply over the wound surface and wait until the graft is well vascularized (granular bed/neodermis). At that point a split thickness skin graft can be applied over this area to cover and heal the wound. This study will determine whether human allograft or xenograft will create a durable neodermis that is more supportive of accepting of a split thickness skin graft. Patients who do not receive Split thickness skin grafts will be assigned to the second cohort for observation of healing rates.
Assessment of InfraScanner 2000™ in Detecting Subdural and Epidural Hematomas
Head TraumaCraniocerebral Injuries22 moreThe goal of this study is to determine the sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of the a portable near-infrared-based device (portable NIR-based device), the InfraScanner 2000™, to detect intracranial hematomas (epidural hematomas (EDH) and/or subdural hematomas (SDH)) in patients hospitalized at Duke University Hospital (DUH) who have sustained or who are suspected to have sustained head trauma and have consequently received a brain computed tomography (CT) scan(s).
A Study to Evaluate Efficacy and Safety of QPI-1002 for Prevention of Acute Kidney Injury Following...
Acute Kidney InjuryThis trial is designed to evaluate QPI-1002 versus placebo for the prevention of AKI in subjects who are at high risk for AKI following cardiac surgery. Half of the participants will receive QPI-1002 while the other half will receive placebo.
