Laryngeal Injuries After Removal of the Tracheal Tube: A Comparison Between Sevoflurane and Propofol...

Vocal Cord; InjurySuperficial

Vocal cord injuries occur not only during tracheal intubation, but also during surgery and during removal of tracheal tube. Volatile anesthetics increase neuromuscular block of muscle relaxants. Thus, the investigators tested the hypothesis, that sevoflurane would cause less vocal cord injuries than a total intravenous anesthesia with propofol.

The Influence of 11+ on Injury Incidence and FMS-Score in Veteran Soccer Players

Injury

According to available data the injury rate in male veteran soccer is high. Interventions to prevent injuries are requested. The 11+ warm-up program was developed by FIFA-experts and consists of several exercises with an overall-length of about 20 min. This study shall investigate the influence of 11+ on injury incidence and Functional Movement Screen (FMS)-Score in male veteran soccer players. Additionally it is to be examined if there is a relationship between FMS-Score and injury incidence. For this purpose the 11+-program is accomplished under supervised conditions over one regular season in a randomized-controlled study design. Injuries are documented via questionnaires in accordance with the FIFA-consensus-statement. FMS-Score is evaluated before and after the interventional period.

Indomethacin Prophylaxis for Heterotopic Ossification After Surgical Treatment of Elbow Trauma

Elbow Trauma Requiring Operative Management

Patients who present to our institution with a traumatic injury to their elbow who need operative management will be randomized to one of two groups; a treatment arm and a control arm. The treatment arm will receive a three-week postoperative course of indomethacin while the control group will not. We will follow both groups to assess whether or not indomethacin prophylaxis affects the rate of heterotopic ossification.

Measurement of Mechanical Properties of the Healing Achilles Tendon With or Without Early Weightbearing...

Achilles Tendon RuptureSoft Tissue Injury1 more

The purpose of this study is to measure the mechanical properties of healing Achilles tendons in humans after early controlled weightbearing, compared with a control group in a randomized, single-blinded trial. The mechanical properties are measured using radiostereophotogrammetic x-rays (RSA). Hypothesis: Early weightbearing improves mechanical properties of the healing Achilles tendon.

Growth Hormone and Insulin Growth Factor 1 Deficiencies in Children/Adolescents Following Traumatic...

Traumatic Brain Injury

The purpose of this study is to look at the relationship between growth hormones, and recovery from a TBI - traumatic brain injury. It is believed that a TBI may interfere with the body's ability to produce growth hormones. These hormones may be needed by the body for growth, mental development and sexual maturation.

Blunt Needles do Not Reduce Needlestick Injuries to Doctors During Suturing After Child-Birth

Needlestick Injuries

The hypothesis for this study is that use of blunt tipped needles used during the repair of an episiotomy (tear in the vagina after childbirth) will result in fewer needlestick injuries to the surgeon.

Association of Intraoperative Renal Regional Oxygen Saturation and Acute Kidney Injury

Liver Transplant; ComplicationsRenal Injury

This study is a prospective observational study of a single cohort of the patients who will undergo a scheduled living donor liver transplantation. The investigators attempt to evaluate the association of intraoperative renal regional oxygen saturation and acute kidney injury in patients undergoing living donor liver transplantation. Near-infrared spectroscopy sensor will be attached to the skin near bilateral kidney areas in all patients and renal regional oxygen saturation will be monitored during the operation. Renal regional oxygen saturation (rSO2) of the patients who developed acute kidney injury postoperatively will be compared with rSO2 of the patients who did not.
