Predicting Osteoarthritis Risk Following Knee Injury.

OsteoarthritisInjury

This observational study seeks to identify and validate novel soluble biomarkers (within blood, synovial fluid, urine) which contribute to the prognostic assessment of an individual with an acute knee injury, a group of individuals in which ~50% will progress to symptomatic radiographic knee osteoarthritis (OA). 150 individuals will be followed over 5 years with clinical assessment including validated questionnaires, biological sampling and radiological imaging (X ray, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)).

Brain Injury Assessment Study at Hennepin County Medical Center

Traumatic Brain Injury

The goals of this study are to develop an objective, multi-modal classification scheme and outcome measures for traumatic brain injury based on several measures: (1) blood-based biomarkers (indicates which cell types are damaged), (2) eye tracking (detects mass effect/elevated intracranial pressure and pathway disruption), (3) radiographic measures of CT and MRI (detect structural abnormalities), and (4) standardized outcome assessments.

Venous and Cerebral Glucose Microdialysis in Neurocritical Care: Validation & Correlation

Traumatic Brain InjuryAcquired Brain Injury3 more

This study evaluates the validity of an intravascular continuous glucose monitoring microdialysis probe, and compares the values to routinely inserted cerebral glucose microdialysis to evaluate the hypothesised relationship between intracranial and intravascular glucose levels.

Cellular and Tissue Based Therapy Registry

Diabetic Foot UlcersVenous Stasis Ulcer3 more

The goal of the Cellular and Tissue Based Therapy Registry (CTPR) for Wounds is to provide real world patient data from electronic health records submitted to meet Stage 2 Meaningful Use in order to understand the value of these products among patients with chronic wounds and ulcers. Randomized, controlled trials to establish product efficacy routinely exclude patients with the co-morbid conditions common to patients seen in usual clinical practice and thus the results of these RCTs tend to be non-generalizable. Little is known about the effectiveness of CTPs among typical patients.

Outcomes of Traumatic Brain Injury and External Validation of CRASH Prognostic Model

Brain InjuriesTraumatic

As per World Health Organization (WHO) 2015 report, road injury is the tenth cause of mortality in the world. 90% of these occur in Low and Middle-Income countries (LMICs) Amongst Injuries, Traumatic Brain Injuries is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Clinicians have to answer about the prognosis of the injured patient to the anxious near ones on arrival as well as throughout the course of treatment A multicenter randomized control trial (CRASH)published a prediction model for traumatic brain injury patients This model was based on data from High Income countries and not from Low and Middle-Income Countries Hence to fill this gap we aim to study the outcome of patients with Traumatic Brain Injury and also validate the CRASH trial prediction model in traumatic brain injury patient It is a Prospective Observational Study for a duration of 18 months and the sample size is 500 patients. Acute Traumatic Brain injury patients >18 years of age admitted in Emergency surgery room. Patients with chronic head injury and Patients who have been declared brain dead and whose organs have been retrieved are excluded. Variable are Age, Glasgow coma score, Pupils reaction to light, Major extra cranial injuries, CT Finding. Outcome of the study is mortality at 14th day and morbidity and mortality after 6 months of head injury.

Dynamic Ultrasound in Evaluation of Tendo-ligamentous Ankle Injury

Tendinoligamentous Injury of the Ankle

Several imaging modalities, such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound (US) can be used to evaluate the ankle. However, US has several benefits for the evaluation of the tendons and ligaments of the ankle, such as its suitability to be integrated with a dynamic assessment and a stress test, its ability to provide real-time analysis, its avoidance of the risk of radiation exposure, and its cost-effectiveness. US is especially powerful when used to evaluate a tear, subluxation, or dislocation in a dynamic examination and when performing a comparison with the contralateral extremity. Dynamic imaging with muscle contraction or passive movement is often helpful. Additionally, Doppler imaging may be used to distinguish small intrasubstance tears from blood vessels that can occur in a tendinopathic tendon.

Smoke Inhalation Injury in Patients Admitted to Intensive Care

Smoke Inhalation InjuryMorality

Many Studies have shown that the smoke-inhalation injury is responsible for a high mortality mainly related to the systemic effects of carbon monoxide and cyanide. Respiratory lesions induced by smoke inhalation, is one of predictive factors of mortality. The aim of the study is to identify the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of smoke-inhalation injury and to identify prognostic factors among these patients .
