MDR - PMCF Study for Echo FX Stem With RingLoc Bipolar Acetabular Cup and Femoral Head

Hip ArthritisHip Disease3 more

The objective of this retrospective enrollment and prospective follow-up study is to confirm safety, performance, and clinical benefits of the Echo FX Stem with the RingLoc Bipolar Acetabular Cup and Femoral Head in hip hemiarthroplasty (implants and instrumentation) at a minimum of 10 years follow-up. All available retrospective data will be collected from each patient and a prospective aspect to the study will be necessary to reach the 10-year time point.

Intravenous vs Oral Acetaminophen in Postoperative Hip Fracture Adult Patients

Hip-fractureSurgery

The INTACT-HIP trial study will evaluate feasibility of conducting a randomized, double-blinded controlled trial comparing postoperative treatment with intravenous (IV) acetaminophen versus oral acetaminophen, in older adults undergoing hip fracture surgery. The results of this feasibility trial will be used to inform designing a larger, multi-center, randomized controlled trial to assess the efficacy of IV acetaminophen compared to oral acetaminophen to reduce delirium and improve other clinical and patient-centered outcomes after hip fracture surgery. It will randomize 42 older adults to receive either oral or IV acetaminophen after hip fracture surgery.

Dose and Concentration Relationship for PENG Block in Hip Surgery

Hip FracturesPost Operative Pain

A number of peripheral nerve blocks are routinely performed in patients who will undergo orthopedic hip surgery for pain relief. Proximal extensor group nerve (PENG) block is one such field block which is used for this purpose and could be performed both before and after the operation. When used before surgery, PENG block is reported to be beneficial in alleviating pain during positioning for spinal anesthesia. Furthermore, some studies suggest a high volume block may increase the analgesic effect of the block. In this perspective, this study aims to observe the effects of different volumes of local anesthetic (bupivacaine) at the same dose used for PENG block in hip fracture positioning for spinal anesthesia. The investigator hypothesizes that a high volume (>20ml) PENG block will reduce pain during positioning compared to a low volume PENG block.

HIP Fracture Oral thromboPROphylaxis (Hip PRO Pilot)

Hip Fractures

As our Canadian population ages, hip fractures in these older adults are becoming very common. The best treatment for the majority of these injuries is urgent treatment with surgery. However, the hip fracture itself, the surgery required, and the immobility following these injuries are all risk factors for developing blood clots in the legs (deep vein thrombosis or DVT) and blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism or PE). These complications are a common cause of death in patients with hip fractures and often result in prolonged medical treatment and hospital stays. Patients with hip fractures who require surgery are traditionally given injectable blood thinners to help prevent blood clots; however, these medications are costly, may not be tolerated well, and can be difficult to take, as prescribed. Oral blood thinning medications are being used more commonly, but it is unknown which of these medications is the most effective in preventing blood clots in patients after a hip fracture. Thrombelastography (TEG) technology uses a small sample of blood to evaluate a person's clotting ability. Our research has used TEG technology to evaluate blood clotting risk after hip fracture surgery and the investigators have found that platelets may play an important role in abnormal blood clotting after a hip fracture. The investigators have also shown that acetylsalicylic acid (ASA or Aspirin) may help reduce the abnormal platelet hyperactivity associated with blood clotting. This medication warrants investigation for blood clot prevention after hip fracture. The investigators propose to directly compare different oral medication regimens after hip fracture surgery, in order to determine which is safest and most effective in preventing blood clots. Our multi-disciplinary research team includes physicians, surgeons, and scientists with experience evaluating different medications for blood clot prevention. Our results will help determine the best medical treatment for preventing DVT and PE, which will benefit patients with hip fractures worldwide.

Post Market Clinical Follow-up of Dual-mobility Acetabular Cup EUROSCUP MOBILE

Hip ArthropathyHip Osteoarthritis4 more

EUROSCUP MOBILE is intended for use in primary and revision total hip replacement surgery. Hip replacement is intended to provide increased patient mobility and reduce pain by replacing the damages hip joint articulation in patients where there is evidence of sufficient sound bone to seat and support the components. As part of post market vigilance, EUROS will collect data on EUROSCUP MOBILE performances and safety

Fragility Fractures of the Pelvis (FFP)

Pelvic Fracture

Prospective data will be collected in approximately 420 patients, above the age of 65, suffering from an FFP type fracture equal to or higher than type II, according to Rommens and Hofmann. Patients will be followed up according to the standard (routine) for up to 1 year after the treatment. Data collection will include underlying disease, treatment details, functional and patient reported outcomes (PRO)s, radiological outcomes, and anticipated or procedure-related adverse events (i.e. complications).

MDR - PMCF Study for Taperloc Complete Stems

Hip ArthritisHip Disease3 more

The objective of this consecutive series PMCF study is to collect data confirming safety, performance, and clinical benefits of the Taperloc Complete stems when used for primary or revision total hip arthroplasty (implants) at 1,3,5,7 and 10-year follow-up*. Since Taperloc Complete was introduced to the EU in 2010, all available retrospective data will be collected from each patient and a prospective aspect to the study will be necessary to reach the 10-year time point.

Chinese Second Hip Fracture Evaluation

Hip FracturesOsteoporosis

To Compare overall rates of second hip fractures in both genders, To determine the effect of hip fracture on proximal femoral volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD), bone structure and muscle by quantitative computed tomography(QCT), To evaluate the contribution of QCT-image analysis to the prediction of the second hip fracture risk. To identify the differences between femoral neck fracture and trochanter fracture following hip fracture

Home-visits From geRiatric tEam aFter hIp fracTure

Geriatric AssessmentHip Fractures2 more

The primary objective is to examine the effect of multidisciplinary geriatric team home-visits as follow-up after a hip fracture in old patients. The hypothesis is that home-visits will reduce the number of falls, readmissions, prevent functional decline, optimize that medical treatment, and a higher degree of satisfaction and quality of life.
