Once Daily Versus Conventional Dosing of Asacol in the Maintenance of Quiescent Ulcerative Colitis...

Ulcerative Colitis

The purpose of this study is to determine if taking Asacol once a day is as effective as taking Asacol twice or three times a day in keeping ulcerative colitis inactive, and to determine which dosing regimen is easiest to follow. Once daily dosing of Asacol is experimental, and has not been approved by the FDA. Dosing as three times daily is FDA approved. This research is being done because the researchers want to learn what the best methods are for keeping ulcerative colitis inactive, and which way of taking Asacol is most helpful to subjects in continuing to take a medication to control their ulcerative colitis.

Study Evaluating Pantoprazole in Peptic Ulcer Hemorrhage

Peptic Ulcer Hemorrhage

This is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, dose-ranging, comparator-controlled study of the effect of pantoprazole on intragastric pH after successful endoscopic hemostasis in hospitalized patients. Patients will receive either intravenous pantoprazole (one of two regimens) or ranitidine (the comparator) within 2 hours of successful hemostasis and administration will continue for 72 hours after hemostasis.

Aloe Vera and Chlorhexidine Against Traumatic Oral Ulcers

Oral Ulcer

The development of gingivitis in patients during orthodontic treatment is widely known, with the characteristic response of gingival inflammation and hyperplasia and traumatic rashes or ulcerations of the oral mucosa derived from the treatment. The use of chemical agents such as CHX, although it has proven to be useful in these patients, but has the disadvantage of having side effects such as staining, even restricting its use during treatment. The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of Aloe vera gel at 80% compared to 0.12% Chlorhexidine gel to alleviate the effects derived from any orthodontic treatment, such as gingival inflammation and hyperplasia and friction or ulcerations. of traumatic oral mucosa-derived from treatment in patients after cementation with metal brackets in the two arches. A total of 140 patients between the ages of 10 and 55 who were randomized and assigned in the two study groups treated with Aloe vera gel versus the conventional Chlorhexidine gel with a sample of 70 subjects in each group participated. The index of gingival inflammation, plaque index, as well as the simplified hemorrhage index, were evaluated.

Adjunctive Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for Lower Extermity Diabetic Ulcer:

Ulcer FootDiabetic Foot Ulcer

Diabetic foot ulcers are associated with high risk of amputation. About 50% of patients undergoing non-traumatic lower limb amputations are diabetics5. The 5-year amputation rate is estimated to be 19% with a mean time to amputation 58 months since the onset of an diabetic foot ulcer6.Because infection and tissue hypoxia are the major contributing factors for non-healing diabetic foot ulcers, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) carries a potential benefit for treating these problematic wounds that do not respond to standard therapy. The role of oxygen in the wound healing cascade and subsequent combatting action against bacterial invasion, especially anaerobes, is well documented.14 Delayed or arrested healing and the development of infection is a direct result from decreased perfusion and poor oxygenation of tissue.15 The presence of wound hypoxia is an major etiological pathway in the development of chronic non-healing diabetic foot ulcers

Pilot Study for Evaluation of the Procedure Impact of Mobilization Adapted to Pressure Ulcer Risk...

Pressure UlcersNursing Cares2 more

Pressure ulcers (PU) represent a major health issue because of their high incidence and of their important consequences. There is an important risk of pressure ulcer acquisition for ICU patient with acute organ failure. Specific risk factors identified in ICU are immobility, which accentuates the effects of friction and shears, as well as mechanical ventilation and the use of vasopressors. A repositioning schedule is a guideline for pressure ulcer prevention, but repositioning frequency remains unknown. Adaptation of the repositioning schedule to pressure ulcer risk assessment using Braden scale should decrease emergence of pressure ulcer. This could limit their important consequences for ICU patients which add to their brittle clinical condition (infection, increased length of stay, mortality…).

Vonoprazan Efficacy to Prevent Post Variceal Band Ligation Ulcer

Portal HypertensionVariceal Hemorrhage1 more

Endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) is used to control and prevent variceal bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis, but it can be complicated by bleeding from post-EVL ulcers. the current study aims at evaluating the potential benefit of different acid-suppressive therapies in prevention of post band ligation ulcer/bleeding. We will include 234 patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension undergoing endoscopic band ligation. Patients will be randomly allocated into one group of acid suppressive therapy (Vonoprazan or pantoprazole) versus placebo for 14 days. Re-endoscopy will be done after 2 weeks of treatment to assess the healing of post ligation ulcers. Any form of upper gastrointestinal bleeding will be documented.

Efficacy of Treatment With Berberine to Maintain Remission in Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative Colitis

The research aim to find out whether berberine can reduce the annual recurrence rate of ulcerative colitis in remission. A total of 238 patients with ulcerative colitis in remission will be randomly divided into two groups. One will receive regular treatment, and the other group will receive extra oral berberine 300 mg three times daily for a year. The end of the study for every patient is disease recurrence(Mayo Clinic score of 3 points or more ). The primary analysis is annual recurrence rate, and both endoscopy and Mayo Clinic disease activity index scores at the baseline and final assessments.
