Ulcerative Colitis Study: Study of Visilizumab in Patients With Severe Ulcerative Colitis

Severe Ulcerative Colitis

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of visilizumab in patients with severe ulcerative colitis that has failed to respond to steroid therapy. What is visilizumab? Visilizumab is an antibody designed to reduce inflammation. Antibodies are proteins that are normally made by the immune system to help defend the body from infections and other foreign substances. Visilizumab is thought to selectively affect the immune system to decrease inflammation and, in doing so, it may prevent damage to the intestine caused by ulcerative colitis. Who can participate in this study? The target population for this study is adults with severe ulcerative colitis that has resisted intravenous (IV) steroids. This study is open to patients with the following characteristics: 16-70 year olds A diagnosis of ulcerative colitis verified by colonoscopy or barium enema performed within 36 months prior to study entry Active disease despite ongoing treatment with steroids How is this study conducted? Eligible participants will be administered visilizumab as one daily injection on two consecutive days. All medication and study-related care, except for the costs of in-patient hospitalization, are provided to qualified participants at no cost. Investigation of Subatmospheric Pressure Dressing on Pressure Ulcer Healing

Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Many spinal cord injury (SCI) and otherwise debilitated patients develop pressure ulcers over the course of their injury or disease. Despite enhanced wound care management, many pressure ulcers do not heal completely and require surgical myocutaneous rotational flap coverage. Even then they often recur. The objectives of this study are: (1) to conduct a controlled comparative study of the effectiveness of subatmospheric pressure dressing (SPD) in healing pressure ulcers versus conventional saline wet-to-moist dressing techniques; (2) to establish indications and contra-indications for use of SPD In treating pressure ulcers; and (3) to develop a noninvasive, clinically usable optical digitizer and associated software for measurement of wound geometry for standardized quantitative assessment and longitudinal monitoring of wound healing.

Preliminary Testing of New Treatment for Chronic Leg Wounds

Most chronic (long-lasting) wounds of the leg (also known as venous ulcers) fail to heal in a reasonable period of time. Although researchers have made great progress in understanding how the body repairs wounds, attempts to develop new treatments have been disappointing. In general, treatments based on recent findings about the details of wound repair have not greatly reduced the number of people who have chronic wounds. The long-term goal of this study is to evaluate a new approach for healing a chronic wound. Current methods of directly applying substances that are involved in wound healing to a chronic wound do not cause enough healing. PDGF-B (platelet-derived growth factor B), a factor associated with wound healing, might dramatically enhance healing if a genetically engineered virus is injected into the wound that causes cells in the wound to produce PDGF-B in large quantities.

Background: Trophic ulcer is one of the complications that arise due to leprosy infection of the skin and includes diseases that trigger permanent disability and reduce the quality of life of the person. The facts in the field that more than 50% of chronic ulcers, especially trophic ulcers due to leprosy fail to heal with usual treatment. Therefore it is important to do a new method in healing trophic ulcers. Stem cell therapy or one of them is conditioned medium mesenchymal stem cell is a promising therapy because of its biological and physiological processes resembling the mechanism of wound healing Method: This research is a clinical trial research "Open Trial". Phase 1 to see the side effects caused by the intervention. Minimum sample size of 20 respondents with trophic ulcers due to leprosy that is difficult to resolve with usual treatment. The main outcome is wound healing in terms of the length and extent of the wound. The secondary outcome is treatment toxicity 4 weeks after administration. Follow-up visits will be scheduled at 2, 4, and 12 weeks post-treatment. If the results confirm safety, feasibility and potential efficacy, large multicenter randomized controlled trials with longer follow-up will begin with a focus on the effectiveness of therapy
