EnergieShake® Acceptability and Tolerance Study

Malnutrition

This open-label, prospective, controlled intervention study involves evaluating tolerance and acceptability of an Oral Nutrition Supplement (ONS; EnergieShake®) in 16 adult patients who are already taking an ONS. Following a 2-day baseline data collection on their current ONS, patients switch to the test ONS, which is taken for a further 8 consecutive days. Patients revert to their current ONS at the end of the study. Patients act as their own controls and thus all patients are allocated the same intervention. Daily records of GI tolerance and compliance with the prescribed amount of ONS will be kept for participants throughout the study period. Participants' height and weight will be collected at baseline (weight at end will also be collected), all medications will be documented, and relevant medical and dietary histories will be recorded. A questionnaire at the end of the intervention period will be administered collecting participants' views on the acceptability (taste and palatability) of the test ONS. Taste and palatability will be assessed via a questionnaire that uses a Hedonic scale to quantify preference.

Resting Energy Expenditure and Nutritional Status in IBD

Inflammatory Bowel DiseaseMalnutrition

Nutrient deficiencies occur frequently in IBD patients. The absorption rate of nutrients in IBD is often limited by chronic inflammation, but is also commonly reduced by missing intestinal segments due to previous operations. Patients are predominantly affected by malnutrition, which is often resembled by weight loss, specific micronutrient deficits such as iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, folic acid deficiency, vitamin D deficiency and zinc depletion. The etiology of nutritional problems is multifactorial and not exclusively limited to active phases of the disease. Causes of malnutrition can be inadequate food intake, maldigestion, malabsorption or increased nutritional requirement. Malnutrition itself is associated with a delayed recovery of impaired wound healing, reduced quality of life and longer hospital stays. Therefore, observation and modification of the nutritional status should be an integral part of therapy in IBD patients. The primary objective of our study is to investigate the influence of the disease on the resting energy expenditure and nutritional status during acute inflammation and clinical remission of the disease. Secondary objectives are to assess possible nutritional deficiencies. On the other hand it is well known that patients with IBD are at increased risk for coronary heart disease. Therefore, another secondary focus of our observational study is whether the composition of the HDL proteins is changed towards pro-atherogenic HDL-proteins and whether possible changes occur in patients in clinical remission or with active disease.

Pancreatic Cancer Malnutrition and Pancreatic Exocrine Insufficiency in the Course of Chemotherapy...

Pancreatic CancerExocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency4 more

Malnutrition and cachexia are common in patients with advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and have a significant influence on the tolerance and response to treatments. If timely identified, malnourished PDAC patients could be treated to increase their capacity to complete the planned treatments and therefore, possibly, improve their efficacy. The aim of the study is to assess the impact of nutritional status, pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI), and other clinical factors on patient outcomes in patients with advanced PDAC. The nutritional status will be determined by means of Mini-Nutritional Assessment score and laboratory blood tests. PEI will be defined as the presence of typical symptoms and/or reduced fecal elastase. Analysis: chemotherapy dosing over the first 12 weeks of therapy (i.e. percent of chemotherapy received in the first 12 weeks, as defined above) PAC-MAIN will provide insights on the role of malnutrition and PEI in outcomes of PDAC.

Novel Form of Nutritional Supplementation in Cancer Patients

CancerMalnutrition1 more

This study evaluates if a novel form of oral nutritional Supplement application in the form of gumdrops may serve as an alternative to common sip Feeds in cancer patients with high risk for malnutrition. Within this context the Impact of these two different supplements on General condition, Quality of life, muscle function, Body composition, Appetite and Nutrition Status are investigated. Patients are randomly allocated either to a study group with oral Supplementation in the form of sip feed or to a study Group receiving gumdrops for 4 weeks. After a washout period of 5-7 days study Groups are switched for another 4 week Intervention period.

Evaluation of NICHE Programme Activities in Kenya

Growth DisordersMalnutrition

This study evaluates the impact of additional cash and nutritional counselling on nutrition outcomes in pregnant women and children up to the age of two years in CT-OVC (cash transfer- orphan and vulnerable children) households in Kitui and Machakos counties of Kenya. The control arm households will receive their normal CT-OVC cash payment and the intervention arm will receive an additional cash payment and nutritional counselling.

The Effects Nutrition Status and Body Composition on HD Patients' Outcome

Body CompositionNutritional Wasting1 more

A prospective long-term follow up of hemodialysis (HD) patients' outcome correlates with nutritional status and body composition. We will evaluate the body composition change among HD patients every three months with bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The change of body composition will correlated with other clinical data including nutritional, inflammatory parameters and survival.

Management and Treatment of Patients With Severe Malnutrition in Intensive Care Unit: a Registry...

Severe Malnutrition

Severe malnutrition can be seen as a low BMI, great weight loss, and even low levels of micronutrients. Current studies on severe malnutrition are mainly in patient with anorexia nervosa. The refeeding phase of these high-risk patients bears a further threat to health and potentially fatal complications (such as refeeding syndrome, infection and severe arrhythmia). The objective of this study is to investigate complications due to refeeding of patients with severe malnutrition, as well as their mortality rate, establish and modify the guideline for management of severe malnutrition in Peking University Third Hospital.

Bioequivalence Study of Two Formulations of Rivaroxaban Tablets 20 mg in Healthy Male Volunteers...

Bioequivalence

This is an open-labeled, laboratory-blinded, randomized, two period, single-center, crossover, comparative study, where each participant will be randomly assigned to the reference (Xarelto®, 20 mg film-coated tablets) or the test (Rivaroxaban, 20 mg film-coated tablets) formulation in each period of study (sequences Test-Reference (TR) or Reference-Test (RT)), in order to evaluate if both formulations are bioequivalent.
