African-American Social Support Effectiveness Treatment

Maternal Perinatal Depression

The objective of this treatment study is to develop and test an augmentation therapy in conjunction with maternal psychiatric treatment that targets the fathers' support of the mothers' mental health and contributions to the family environment to reduce maternal stress. The African-American Social Support Effectiveness Treatment-Partners alleviating Perinatal Depression (ASSET-PPD) intervention will be delivered to fathers in an individual setting to target the context in which a mother lives to expand her support beyond the direct reach of her treatment professional. This study provides skills and training to fathers who have a partner with prenatal depression. The aim is to reduce maternal depression during the perinatal period and improve the family environment for the infant.

Meditation Therapy in Improving Anxiety and Depression in Cancer Patients With Psychosocial Distress...

AnxietyDepression1 more

This trial studies how well self-administered meditation therapy works in improving anxiety and depression in cancer patients who exhibit psychosocial distress. Meditation therapy is a mind-body approach that uses a variety of techniques, such as deep breathing, sound, or movement, that may help to decrease distress and anxiety and enhance the health and quality of life of patients with cancer.

The Effects of Virtual Reality Education on Balance, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Parameters

AnxietyDepression2 more

If we examine the demographic data of the 2021 reports of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), we can see that the young population between the ages of 15 and 24 is 12,971,289 people, which is 15.3% of the total population. Considering the proportion of young population in our country, the evaluation of physical activity level has an important place, while the proportion of female university students who achieved sufficient physical activity level according to the scoring of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (UFAA) was 8.5%, while the proportion of male students was 28.1% in previous studies (Arslan 2015). ). We know from previous studies that achieving an adequate level of physical activity directly reduces the body mass index and indirectly reduces the cardiovascular risk associated with obesity (Swift 2018). Exercise reduces depression levels and the effects of depression. Although the neural mechanisms are not very clear, there are some predictions for physical exercise to reduce the level of depression (Gujral 2017). The hippocampus is an important cognitive and sensory centre, and it has been reported that hippocampal volume decreases by 5% in depressed individuals (Cole 2011). Hippocampal volume has been reported to increase rapidly with exercise (Bugg 2012). The brain region most affected in major depressive disorder is the prefrontal cortex. After the prefrontal cortex is affected, symptoms such as negative affect and learned helplessness appear (Pizagalli 2021). Experimental studies in mice have shown that treadmill training creates new synaptic pathways in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus (Mu 2022). Another brain region affected by depression is the corpus striatum. Loss of corpus striatum volume is observed in patients with major depression (Zhang 2020). The volume of the corpus striatum modulates when physical exercise reaches a sufficient level. (Rotttensteiner 2015). Adequate levels of physical activity not only reduce depression, but also prevent neural dysfunction that can occur as a result of depression. However, young people do not get enough exercise. Based on this fact, we believe that it is necessary to use 3D virtual reality applications to increase physical activity levels and exercise motivation. The aim of our study is to investigate the effect of virtual reality training on balance, depression, anxiety and stress parameters in healthy young people.

Prevention of Postpartum Depression: A Pilot Placebo-controlled Trial of Trazodone

Postpartum Depression

Postpartum depression is a serious illness that affects approximately 17% of women who have recently given birth. Untreated depression appears to have negative effects for both the mother and her baby. Postpartum depression is quite common among women with a history of depression. Sleeplessness is a common concern during pregnancy and after delivery, and it can also trigger depression in women with a history of depression. Antidepressants are the most commonly recommended drugs for prevention of postpartum depression; however, there is limited research to understand the effectiveness of the medications in preventing postpartum depression. Trazodone is a weak antidepressant, but it is commonly prescribed for sleeplessness due to physical or psychiatric disorders. We are planning a study to find out whether trazodone in a low dose is more effective than a sugar pill in preventing postpartum depression among women with histories of depression. We expect the results of our study will make it easier for healthcare providers to select the right medication for women who are at risk of developing depression after delivery and thus improve the mental health of mothers and well-being of their babies.

A Pilot Study Investigating the Efficacy of Minocycline and N-Acetyl Cysteine for Bipolar Depression...

Bipolar DisorderBipolar Depression

The purpose of the Pilot Study Investigating the Efficacy of Minocycline and n-acetylcysteine for Bipolar Depression is to test the effectiveness of minocycline, n-acetylcysteine, and combined minocycline and n-acetylcysteine pharmacotherapy in order to fill the gap in treatments for bipolar depression. The treatment of bipolar depression remains the greatest unmet need in the management of this lifelong and chronic psychiatric disorder.

Study to Evaluate the Safety and Efficacy of PEER Interactive Versus Treatment as Usual in Subjects...

Depressive Disorder

This is a prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, controlled study to evaluate the effectiveness of PEER Interactive to inform treatment in subjects with a primary diagnosis of depression with comorbidity of non-psychotic behavioral disorders versus treatment as usual, as determined by the investigator. The primary measurement for improvement of the subjects depression will be a self-evaluation questionnaire, Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology-Self Report 16, but the investigators will also collect information on their clinical global improvement and any reduction in adverse events.

Observation of Ketamine Treatment Safety and Tolerability in Adult Psychiatry Clinic Medical University...

Major Depressive DisorderPost Traumatic Stress Disorder4 more

Adult Psychiatry Clinic Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG) is a healthcare facility that provides ketamine treatment to adult patients suffering from mental health conditions. The Clinic especially treats individuals suffering from treatment-resistant disorders, like - mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, trauma and stressor-related disorders, somatic symptom and related disorders, and dissociative disorders. Herein, this naturalistic observation aims to look at the safety and tolerability of ketamine treatment to further develop the understanding of ketamine in the use of psychiatry.

Effect of Esketamine on Reducing Postoperative Anxiety and Depression in Adolescent Patients

Anxiety-depression

This study intends to conduct a prospective, double-blind, randomized, controlled trial. Adolescents aged 8-17 years old are selected as subjects. Esketamine is used as intervention before surgery, vital signs data, serum IL-6, CRP and other inflammatory indicators are collected during surgery, and the incidence and degree of anxiety and depression are evaluated after surgery. To determine the effect of esketamine on reducing anxiety and depression in adolescents after surgery, and to provide an effective clinical basis for accelerating the rehabilitation of adolescents after surgery.

Prophylactic Effects of Agomelatine for Poststroke Depression

DepressionAcute Ischemic Stroke

The incidence of depression in stroke patients with frontal lobe involvement was reported to be as high as 42%. Agomelatin, a type 1/2 melatonin receptor agonist and serotonin 2C receptor antagonist, is effective in treatment of depression, but whether it can prevent poststroke depression (PSD) remains unknown. The PRAISED trial is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind trial and is designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of agomelatine in the prevention of PSD in stroke patients with frontal lobe involvement. The primary outcome is the rate of post-stroke depression for 180 days.
