Antidepressant Treatment of Melancholia in Late Life
DepressionMelancholiaThe purpose of this study is to compare the safety and effectiveness of a select serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI, sertraline) and a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA, nortriptyline) in outpatients over the age of 60 who have major depression. SSRIs are effective in the treatment of major depression. However, there is also evidence that SSRIs may be significantly less effective than TCAs for patients with late-life major depression with melancholia. Since SSRIs seem to be easier to take than TCAs and are more widely prescribed, it is important to determine which of these types of antidepressants works best to treat these patients. Patients will be assigned randomly to receive either sertraline (a SSRI) or nortriptyline (a TCA) for 12 weeks. Patients will be monitored for symptoms, side effects, and quality of life. If a patient responds to treatment, he/she will participate in a 6-month continuation phase in which he/she will continue to receive the same medication. An individual may be eligible for this study if he/she: Has unipolar major depression (with some exceptions) and is over 60 years old.
Assessing Dopamine Transporter Occupancy in the Healthy Adult Brain With Toludivenlafaxine Hydrochloride...
Major Depressive DisorderThis study was a single-arm, non-randomized, open-label clinical study to assess dopamine transporter occupancy in the brain of healthy adults using 11C-CFT positron emission tomography (PET)
Effectiveness of a Mobile Texting Intervention for People With Serious Mental Illness

Physical EXercise as an Adjunct Treatment for Depression
Major Depressive Disorder35 participants diagnosed with major depressive disorder were randomized in 3 intervention groups: (1) aerobic exercise (AE) ; (2) placebo (stretching) exercise (ST); and (3) no intervention (control group; NI). The intervention length was 10 consecutive days. In groups 1 (aerobic exercise) and 2 (sham exercise), participants exercised for 30 minutes each day. Depressive symptoms were assessed the day before the beginning of intervention and the day after the end of intervention for participants of both groups.
Transcranial Laser Therapy, Continuous and Pulsed Light, for Major Depressive Disorder (ELATED-3)...
DepressionMajor Depressive DisorderTranscranial Light Therapy involves non-invasive and invisible beams of light that increase energy metabolism in the brain. Transcranial light therapy has been found to promote brain metabolism which may help people with depression. The research team proposes a novel approach to treating depression by using transcranial light therapy.
Neuroimaging in Patients Undergoing TMS for Depression
Treatment Resistant DepressionThe goal of this project is to guide rTMS using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in individuals with depression who did not respond to standard TMS treatment to evaluate whether targeted TMS using individualized functional MRI scans produce outcome superior to that of conventional approaches. The study team also plans to scan patients with Major Depression Disorder (MDD) patients prescribed to receive standard TMS for the first time before and after which they will have resting-state Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (rs-FMRI) scan in order to see if we can predict their responsiveness based on the functional connectivity maps.
Assessment in Work Productivity and the Relationship With Cognitive Symptoms in Patients With MDD...
Major Depressive DisorderThe purpose of the study is to describe the association/correlation between change in patient-reported cognitive symptoms and work productivity in gainfully employed patients receiving vortioxetine for a Major Depressive Episode (MDE).
Meditation Versus Education for Improving Depression in Chronic Pain, a Randomized Controlled Trial...
Chronic PainDepressionIn this study two possible treatment options available for depression and chronic pain will be explored. Both of these treatments will be offered through online group video calls, which could translate to cost-savings for the health care system. The two treatment options are: The Health Enhancement Program (HEP). Designed to give participants information and guidance on how to lead a healthy lifestyle, which could be beneficial in treating depression. Sahaj Samadhi Meditation (SSM). A unique and easy-to-learn meditation technique that reduces stress and provides deep relaxation which could be beneficial in treating depression. This study will use a hybrid type 1 evaluation design that primarily focuses on a single-site, single-blinded (investigator, and clinician), 12-week randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing SSM (n=80) versus HEP (n=80) in 160 adults with depression and chronic pain. Participants will be blinded to the treatment hypothesis while investigators, raters and treating clinicians will be additionally blinded to the intervention. Evaluations of depression (PHQ-9), pain symptoms (BPI), quality of life (SF-36), and opioid use will be collected at baseline, intervention completion (12 week), and at 24 week follow-up. An implementation evaluation will draw from four key study populations: (1) the participants of the RCT; (2) the expert meditation instructors facilitating the intervention; (3) the site staff and investigators involved in supporting the logistics of the intervention arm of the RCT.
Manual-based Art Therapy for Adolescents With Depression
DepressionDepressive DisorderThere is a need to evaluate different interventions in order to meet young people's needs of treatment. The study's goal is to find out if manual-based art therapy is a useful method for young people with depression and thus increase the availability of methods of treatment for adolescents with depression in Child and youth psychiatry in Sweden. The aim is to investigate whether manual-based art therapy is useful as treatment for adolescents with depression by examining feasibility, acceptability and compliant to treatment. Secondary, preliminary study of adolescent depressive symptoms, quality of life and functional level is affected by the treatment. Method: Data from youths aged 13-17 years old and their parents will be collected with questionnaires and structured interviews. Measurements are taken before and after treatment. Acceptability and feasibility will be examined by participants' presence, drop out and cancellations and also by checking the art therapists' compliance to the manual and investigate their reasons to diverge from the manual
Multiple Sclerosis-Collaborative Approach to Rehabilitation Effectiveness Study
Multiple SclerosisPain1 moreThe purpose of this study is to: (1) test the benefits of the patient-centered collaborative care treatment approach for persons with MS who also have depression and/or pain; and also (2) test whether this approach improves quality of life, patient satisfaction, adherence to other treatments, and quality of care in the MS care system.
