The objective of this randomized controlled trial is to evaluate whether the investigators modernized IMPACT intervention for depression (eIMPACT), delivered before the onset of cardiovascular disease (CVD), reduces the risk of future CVD. Participants will be primary care patients who are depressed but do not have a history of CVD. Half of the participants will receive standard depression treatment in primary care (usual care), and the other half will receive one year of eIMPACT, a collaborative stepped care program including antidepressants and computerized and telephonic cognitive-behavioral therapy. To evaluate change in CVD risk, the investigators will measure artery function using ultrasound before and after the 1-year treatment period. It is hypothesized that patients who receive the eIMPACT intervention will have greater improvements in artery function than patients who receive usual care.

The project seeks to test the integration of Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Groups within Care Group projects and investigate whether the treatment of maternal depression with Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Groups improves the adoption of nutrition-related behaviors that can reduce stunting in the Kitgum District in northern Uganda. A secondary aim is to examine whether the participation in the care groups will also result in remission of depression as a non-specific therapeutic effect although it may not be intended as an antidepressant treatment.

Postnatal depression is a common public health problem which has long-term sequelae on the family and the infant's psychosocial development. Interpersonal psychotherapy has demonstrated its value as one of the most effective interventions for postnatal depression. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of a couple-based interpersonal psychotherapy for first-time Chinese mothers and fathers on depressive symptoms, family sense of coherence, and marital relationships immediately after intervention and at 6 weeks and 6 months postpartum.

This study is looking at the safety and efficacy of combined ketamine and lithium therapy for treating patients with bipolar depression who are taking a mood stabilizer that is not working for them.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has unparalleled efficacy in treating severe depression that is resistant to common modalities of treatment, such as antidepressant medication. Although treatment with ECT has benefited many individuals with treatment resistant depression (rates as high as 50-75%), its more widespread use is hindered by the social stigma associated with the treatment, as well as by its significant cognitive side effects. Moreover, ECT cannot be precisely targeted, since it produces a widespread activation of the brain surface, in turn, affecting many different functional areas. Magnetic seizure therapy (MST) is currently being investigated as an alternative to ECT, as it is more focused to one area of the brain. Rather than applying electrical stimuli to induce a seizure, as is done in ECT, MST uses repetitive magnetic stimulation to produce the seizure. Preliminary research suggests that MST can result in therapeutic effects comparable to those produced by ECT, but without the negative side effects on cognition. The proposed study is a randomized, controlled trial, in which the efficacy and side effect profile of MST will be compared to those of ECT. If successful, the results of this study may lead to increased treatment availability and accessibility, as well as lessen the substantial health care costs associated with treatment resistant depression.

The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of two different augmentation strategies of antidepressant treatment for depressed older adults who have not responded to an adequate trial of antidepressant medication. The first augmentation strategy is Problem Solving Therapy (PST), a 12-week psychotherapy treatment that has been shown to be effective in depressed older adults. The second augmentation strategy is medication augmentation, which will begin with six weeks of aripiprazole, an atypical antipsychotic medication that has also been shown to be effective in depressed older adults who have failed a trial of antidepressant medication.

The objective of this clinical trial is to evaluate whether a computerized depression treatment, delivered before the onset of heart disease, reduces the risk of heart disease in the future. Participants in this trial will be primary care patients who are depressed but do not have a history of heart disease. Half of these patients will receive a standard treatment (usual care), and the other half will receive eight weeks of an evidence-based psychological treatment called Beating the Blues®, which is a computerized, cognitive behavioral treatment program for depression. To evaluate change in heart disease risk, the investigators will measure the functioning of the arteries using ultrasound before and after the treatment. It is hypothesized that patients who receive Beating the Blues® will show greater improvements in both depression and artery function than patients who receive standard treatment.

Quetiapine is one of atypical antipsychotics with good efficacy and better side effect profiles than conventional antipsychotics, so it is being widely used beyond the treatment of schizophrenia. Recently, the BOLDER I and II study showed that quetiapine monotherapy is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for depressive episodes in bipolar disorder. However, most c1inicians did not have confidence with quetiapine monotherapy yet, and most practice guidelines recommend the monotherapy with mood stabilizer as the first-line treatment. The Korean medication algorithm for bipolar disorder published in 2006 also recommend the monotherapy with lithium, divalproex, or lamotrigine in the treatment of mild to moderate depressive episode of bipolar disorder. Therefore, the aim of this study is investigating the efficacy and safety of quetiapine monotherapy when compared with mood stabilizer monotherapy. In addition, the investigators are going to reveal the quality of sleep and quality of life, of the two groups of patients.

The primary goal of the proposed study is to compare the effectiveness of universal school based screening for adolescent major depressive disorder to the current school process of targeted screening based on concerning behavior.
