Symptoms and SignsPain1 moreDouble J ureteral stents (DJ) are widely used in urological practice and commonly inserted after most of ureteroscopies. Stent-related symptoms (SRS) represent a major issue. Many research lines have been explored with the aim of decreasing SRS: Vogt et al. projected a self-made pigtail suture stent (PSS) replacing the distal pigtail with a 0.3 Fr suture reaching the bladder, showing decreased SRS and good tolerance. To date, these promising results hasn't been confirmed by a prospective randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving a marketed PSS. Thus, we designed a prospective single-blind RCT to compare SRS caused by marketed PSS and conventional DJ after uncomplicated URS for stone treatment.

Tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker widely used in urological practice to relax smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck. Its role as part of medical expulsion therapy for the treatment of patients with kidney and ureteric stones has proved to be of considerable success. However, its role in clearing upper ureteric stones as an adjunct to ESWL is controversial. Management of Ureteral Calculi Using Ultrasound Guidance: A Radiation Free Approach
UrolithiasisKidney stones are very common, and can inflict a significant degree of pain and renal damage. Some stones become obstructed in the ureter, the tube that drains the kidney. In order to remove these stones, an Urologist and their team use fluoroscopic guidance to do so, this involves continuous X-ray. Flouroscopy delivers a significant dose of radiation to the patient, as well as the health care team, which has been shown to have serious health consequences. Previous studies have shown that in certain populations, like pregnant women, stones can be managed using ultrasound guidance. The investigators propose that mid and distal ureteral stones could be managed using ultrasound guidance in conjunction with conventional stone removal techniques (ureteroscopy, lithotripsy, and ureteral stent placement), in lieu of fluoroscopy, thereby minimizing radiation to healthcare staff and patients. The investigators hypothesize that distal ureteral stones can be identified and efficiently fragmented and removed under ultrasound guidance in a safe and effective manner without the use of radiation.

Ureteral StoneA lower ureteral calculus, which measures 5 millimeters and less, may be easily expelled by symptomatic therapy. Actually, it has about a 50% chance of successful expulsion. However, a complication such as urinary tract infection or hydronephrosis or persistent pain may occur before it is expelled. Thus, it is imperative to minimize the occurrence of complications in the process of expectant treatment and also to reduce the time required to expel calculi. Pharmacotherapy is to relieve ureteral obstruction and thus to expel urinary calculi easily. This clinical trial is to evaluate the efficacy of silodosin, a selective α1A-blocker, on calculous expulsion in expectant treatment for patients with lower and mid ureteral calculi.
