9000 URETHRA STUDY: a Study About Urethroplasty for Urethral Stricture Disease
Urethral StrictureIt has been demonstrated that urethroplasty should be considered the gold standard treatment for urethral stricture disease as it yields higher long-term success rates than endoscopic treatment options such as direct vision internal urethrotomy (DVIU) or dilation. Many data about these procedures exist, although most of the publications about urethroplasty are retrospective and involve a tremendous risk of bias. To address these issues, this study is designed to prospectively gain evidence about this matter in all patient subgroups facing a potential treatment with urethroplasty: native men, native women, transmen, transwomen and children.
A Study of Dorsal Versus Ventral Buccal Mucosa Graft Onlay for Bulbar Urethroplasty
Urethral StrictureThe investigators propose a randomized non-blinded comparison of dorsal vs. ventral approach for buccal mucosa graft urethroplasty in the bulbar urethra. Buccal mucosa graft is a common method of repairing the strictured urethra. Current evidence suggests the two approaches for placement of the graft are equally successful at correcting the stricture and the two approaches have similar risks of complications. The investigators propose to randomly assign appropriately selected patients to either a dorsally- or ventrally-placed graft. No additional procedures beyond normal care protocol will be required of the patients. Success will be assessed via objective and subjective methods; complications will be tallied in a standardized fashion. Outcomes will be measured at two years.

Urethral StrictureThe purpose of this study is to evaluate if the placement of a temporary urethral stent for up to 12 months, following dilation or internal urethrotomy (cutting open), results in a higher rate of urethral patency during the first year of follow-up when compared to the control group that does not receive a stent.
Holmium: YAG Versus Cold Knife Internal Urethrotomy in Management of Short Urethral Strictures
Urethral StrictureMaleUrethral stricture disease is defined as narrowing of the urethral lumen because of fibrosis, which occurs in urethral mucosa and surrounding tissues. The etiology could be congenital, iatrogenic, infectious, or idiopathic. Several techniques are currently available for minimally invasive treatment of urethral strictures, including cold-knife incision, electrocautery, and various types of laser incisions. An incision with the cold knife does not cause any thermal effect on surrounding tissues but should create a mechanical injury that may lead to recurrence in long term. An incision with the electrocautery should cause a significant thermal effect on healthy surrounding tissues resulting in recurrent strictures during follow-up.
