Fluids Affecting Bladder Urgency and Lower Urinary Symptoms

This study evaluates whether eliminating certain ingredients (caffeine, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, acidic juices) consumed in beverages reduces bladder symptoms of urinary frequency and urgency. Women with overactive bladder will be recruited. Half of these women will receive instructions to replace beverages containing these ingredients with beverages such as water or milk. The other half of participants will receive instructions on following the United States Department of Agriculture guidelines on healthy eating.

eCoin for OAB Feasibility Follow-on Study

This trial is a prospective, multicenter, single-arm follow-on study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of eCoinTM tibial nerve stimulation in subjects with urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) as defined by the American Urological Association (30). The follow-on study will evaluate changes from baseline in OAB symptoms as measured by voiding diaries and patient-reported outcomes through 24 weeks of eCoinTM therapy (which is the same as 28 weeks from study device reimplantation).

To reveal the effects of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) applied over the thigh on incontinence symptoms, pelvic floor muscle function, bladder function, quality of life and sexual function in women with urge urinary incontinence (UUI) symptoms. Our goal is to contribute to the literature on electrical stimulation (ES) applications used in UUI treatment. Female patients aged 18-65 years with UUI symptoms will be included in the study. Patients will be divided into 2 groups randomly. The first group will be given Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) and lifestyle suggestions (LSS) (NMES group). The second group will be given sham NMES in addition to LSS (SHAM ES group). Information about bladder irritants, voiding posture and behavior, weight control and pelvic floor muscle training will be provided in the LSS. ES applications will be performed 3 days a week for 30 minutes per session for 8 weeks. All participants will be evaluated pretreatment, after the 4th week and posttreatment. Pelvic floor muscle function will evulate with the Modified Oxford Scale. In addition, women's bladder function with the urinary diary for 3 days, incontinence symptoms with the International Incontinence Consultation Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF) and the Coital Incontinence Score (CIS), quality of life with the King Health Questionnaire (KHQ) and Sexual Function will be evaluated with Pelvic Organ Prolapse/Urinary Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire (PISQ-12). At the end of the 8th week, both the Subjective perception of improvement and treatment satisfaction of the patients will be questioned

Urge Incontinence Episodes After the Magnetic Stimulation Added to Bladder Training in Women With Idiopathic Overactive Bladder

In clinical practice, Bladder Training (BT) and Magnetic stimulation (MS) are frequently used together in the treatment of women with idiopathic overactive bladder (OAB). Up to our knowledge, there is no study evaluating the combined effect of magnetic stimulation and bladder training in women with idiopathic OAB in the literature. Moreover, there is no recommendation on conservative treatment combinations in the guidelines due to insufficient data. At this stage, studies are needed to determine whether it will be effective to use MS in combination with other conservative treatment options. In addition, in the light of our clinical experience, we think that this issue is still open for research. In our study, adding MS to BT in women with idiopathic OAB is thought to contribute additionally to the efficacy of treatment with BT. Our study is the first prospective randomized controlled trial that compares the efficacy of BT and BT plus MS in women with idiopathic OAB. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of MS added to BT on incontinence-related QoL and clinical parameters in women with idiopathic OAB.

Urinary Urge Incontinence

Non-neurogenic urinary urge incontinence (UUI) is a common quality of life disorder that causes people to feel an "urgent" need to urinate. Standard treatment for UUI includes behavior modification, pelvic floor exercises, anticholinergic medication, and less commonly, sacral neuromodulation. Unfortunately anticholinergic therapy is only moderately effective. Botulinum toxin A (BTA or Botox©) may be a useful treatment in patients that do not respond to standard therapy. Botulinum toxin A has been used in other studies to improve symptoms in neurogenic urinary incontinence, and a variety of lower urinary tract disorders. BTA has been used in other studies to improve the symptoms in urinary incontinence, migraines, spinal cord injuries and a variety of lower urinary tract disorders. However, the treatment of non-neurogenic urinary urge incontinence has not been examined in a well-controlled study. The primary purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of botulinum toxin A (BTA) in the treatment of non-neurogenic urinary urge incontinence (UUI). The secondary objectives are to examine the side effects associated with BTA treatment and the impact this treatment has on patients' quality of life.

Refractory Overactive Bladder: Sacral NEuromodulation v. BoTulinum Toxin Assessment (ROSETTA)

The purpose of this randomized, open-label, active-control trial is to compare the effectiveness of intra-detrusor botulinum toxin A (Botox A®, Allergan) versus sacral neuromodulation (InterStim®, Medtronic) for the treatment of refractory urge urinary incontinence. In addition, the study will evaluate select technical attributes of the interventions as well as the effect of these two interventions on other lower urinary tract and pelvic floor symptoms. Hypothesis: InterStim® therapy will result in a greater reduction in daily urge urinary incontinence episodes over the 6-month follow-up period as compared to Botox A® injection. A supplemental study investigates whether biological markers including those related to inflammation and connective tissue remodeling change following treatments with Botox A® and Interstim®.

Urge Urinary Incontinence

Urinary Urge Incontinence (UUI) is the involuntary urine loss associated with a strong sensation to void. UUI usually associated with reduced bladder capacity. The pathophysiology is unclear. Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and detrusor instability have been suggested as possible mechanisms. Standard treatment includes anticholinergic medication and behavior modification. The study aims to compare the long term effectiveness of 4 different approaches to the treatment of women with Urge Urinary Incontinence (UUI): Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation (includes muscle training+behavioral intervention+bladder training) Pelvic Floor muscle training alone Bladder Training alone Drug treatment with Tolterodine. Study variables will include: impairment ratings, quality of life, and cost-effectiveness. This study addresses three issues: The long term efficacy and cost-effectiveness of the various treatment options. To identify the factors involved in determining the effectiveness of drug or behavioral therapy. The pathophysiology of UUI. By subdividing the rehabilitation group into 3 arms, we hope to shed light on the mechanism of dysfunction. A better response in one group will help localize the problem to pelvic floor muscles or to detrusor instability.
