Uro-NIRS Clinical Study

Lower Urinary Tract SymptomsOveractive Bladder

The purpose of this experiment is to confirm the results of previous testing of Urodynamix's Uro-NIRS device. Together Urodynamix and Laborie have created a device that includes standard Laborie medical equipment and the experimental Urodynamix device. Collectively this integrated device is considered an investigational device, and the results from this study may be used to support a submission to the US Food and Drug Administration for the approval of the integrated device. This research is being done because we want to test the ability of the integrated Laborie and Urodynamix device to provide a non-invasive method to provide additional information to assist with the diagnosis of or treatment plan of patients suffering from urinary problems. The current technologies rely solely on the measurement of internal pressures of the bladder, which involves the insertion of catheter into the subject's urethra.

Overactive BladderPelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common condition in women. Approximately 20% of women undergo surgical correction for POP in their lifetime. Overactive bladder symptoms (OAB) are often associated with POP in 25-69% of patients and POP has been shown to be an independent risk factor for OAB. There is scientific evidence that surgical repair of POP reduces or eliminates OAB in >85%. In addition, stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is also often associated with POP, either clinically evident or as a potential post-operative complication. The clinical decision as to include a surgical technique to treat SUI when repairing POP surgically is still a matter of controversy. Most surgeons at the institution will include an extra procedure, specifically a retropubic sling, if SUI is clinically evident. Some will not include it unless there is urodynamic or clinical evidence of potential SUI post-operatively. Finally, some will include it regardless of clinical or urodynamic findings based on the apparent high incidence of such SUI after prolapse repair. The Tension-Free-Vaginal Tape (TVT) has been observed to reduce OAB as well as produce de-novo OAB symptoms, so the effect of TVT on OAB is still unclear. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of additional TVT surgery on OAB symptoms in patients undergoing POP repair. It is hoped that such data will better determine the effect of either surgical intervention strategy on OAB symptoms. This is a prospective cohort study comparing patients with OAB that undergo surgical repair of their prolapse with or without additional TVT surgery. The outcomes will be measured using pre- and post-operative validated questionnaires (PFDI-20, OAB-q short form).

Vesitirim™ in Men Postmarketing Observational Study

Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS)Overactive Bladder (OAB)

This is an observational study which will look at the improvement in Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) in Irish men being treated with Vesitirim™ (solifenacin). Vesitirim™ is a competitive specific muscarinic receptor antagonist and has been used extensively for the treatment of OAB (Over Active Bladder) in women and has shown significant impact on urgency, frequency and incontinence in females. It is also indicated for the symptomatic treatment of urgency incontinence and/or increased urinary frequency and urgency in men. The purpose of this study is to evaluate LUTS storage symptom improvement in men with non neurogenic LUTS who have been prescribed Vesitirim™. The effect of Vesitirim (solifenacin) treatment on bothersome symptoms improvement will be measured using Over Active Bladder-q Short Form (OAB-qSF) and the Perception of Treatment Satisfaction (TS-VAS). The study will also help define some of the characteristics of the male population in Ireland who are treated with Vesitirim™ (solifenacin) as well as evaluating the effect of Vesitirim™ monotherapy or combination therapy on storage symptoms improvement (urgency, frequency and urge incontinence) using a bladder diary and IPSS (International Prostate Symptom Score). The study will also evaluate the effect of Vesitirim™ monotherapy or combination therapy on nocturia using IPSS. The impact of LUTS on quality of life will also be assessed. Data will also be collected regarding adverse drug reactions.
