Effects of Hypopressive Exercises in Comparison With Routine Pelvic Floor Exercises in Women With...

Urinary Incontinence

The aim of our study is to compare the effects of hypopressive exercises with routine pelvic floor exercises in improving the frequency and severity of urinary incontinence in women and also to enhance their quality of life as it worsens after childbirth, pregnancy, and in older age.

The Effect of Pelvic Floor Exercise on Urinary Incontinence and Quality of Sex Life

Pelvic Floor Muscle WeaknessUrinary Incontinence

This physiotherapist-guided group training programme should be performed in both the supine and the sitting positions; it is investigated, which is better and more cost-effective in patient motivation.

Postoperative Activity Restrictions After Slings

Stress Urinary IncontinencePatient Satisfaction1 more

Postoperative restrictions are often based on expert opinion and "common sense". There is a wide variety in the recommended activity limitation amongst pelvic floor surgeons. Many patients undergo urogynecologic procedures to improve their quality of life, and these additional restrictions decrease their quality of life in the short term. Our hypothesis is that unrestricted activity after a mid-urethral sling will not negatively impact a patient's recovery or likelihood of surgical success. Eligible participants will be randomized to no postoperative instructions or traditional postoperative instructions. Patients will be followed up at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 6 months postoperatively. Data will be collected throughout the follow up period, but the primary endpoint is at 6 months. At the 6 month visit, subjects' activity level, leakage symptoms, and postoperative satisfaction will be assessed.

Cystic Fibrosis and Urinary Incontinence

Urinary IncontinenceCystic Fibrosis

Evaluate the feasibility of a randomized controlled trial of non-surgical urinary incontinence (UI) management options for women with CF. The investigators will complete a pilot, feasibility study (n=30) to compare tolerability and symptom relief in women with CF and UI. Subjects will be recruited from the University of Pittsburgh Cystic Fibrosis Center after demonstrating bother from UI on initial phone script. Participants will undergo UI questionnaires and undergo a pelvic examination, non-invasive bladder scan ultrasound and a provocative stress test and then be randomized to either a disposable urethral support device (Impressa®), an absorbent product (Speax Reusable Underwear), or Pelvic floor muscle therapy. The primary outcome will be to determine the feasibility and tolerability of these options. Hypothesis: All three non-surgical UI management options for women are feasible (as measured by 80% adherence to treatment assignment over 7 days) and tolerable (as measured by patient report via questionnaire). The results from the proposed aims will provide important information about the experiences and symptom burden of women with CF and UI. Importantly, the investigators will also be able to answer the important questions of "Can it work?" and "Does it work?" as the investigators seek to construct the definitive, adequately powered trial of these therapies in women with CF and UI.

The Efficacy of Injectable Platelet-rich Fibrin in the Treatment of the Female Stress Urinary Incontinence...

Urinary IncontinenceTreatment

We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of locally applied injectable platelet-rich fibrin in women with stress urinary incontinence. We searched whether there was a decrease in the severity of urinary incontinence after the injection of platelet-rich fibrin. The participants will answer questionnaires about urinary incontinence before and after the injectable platelet-rich fibrin treatment.

Comparison of Single Voiding Cycle and Two and Three Voiding Cycles in Ambulatory Urodynamic Studies...

UrodynamicsUrinary Incontinence3 more

Urodynamic studies are objective diagnostic methods recommended and used in the evaluation and diagnosis of urinary incontinence, which is a very common problem that can significantly affect women's health and quality of life, cause social and economic losses. With these examinations, objective observation of bladder functions, repetition and classification of patients' symptoms, and identification of the underlying pathological cause, if possible, are provided in the evaluation of lower urinary system dysfunctions; In this way, the diagnosis is made, the choice of treatment is affected, the results of the treatment can be predicted and appropriate counseling can be given to the patients. Although conventional urodynamics is currently accepted as the gold standard test in the investigation of lower urinary tract symptoms, non-physiological retrograde bladder filling may adversely affect the test results and patients have to be under observation on the examination table while being examined with the conventional urodynamic method. Conventional method may not be effective enough in revealing the etiopathogenesis of lower urinary system symptoms, because they cannot perform activities where lower urinary system symptoms occur. Although many studies have shown that the diagnostic value of ambulatory urodynamics (AU) is higher in urogynecology clinical practice, it was not found suitable for routine investigation due to its longer duration, time-consuming and cost-effectiveness. For this reason, its routine use has been limited in international guidelines for AU in cases where conventional urodynamics is insufficient in the diagnosis, by indicating its application. In the AU method, all physiopathological changes in the lower urinary system can be observed synchronously, since the bladder filling is orthograde, not retrograde, that is, the lower urinary system is examined while the physiological urine is filled, not liquid, and the patients can perform the activities they want, and the symptoms that occur during these activities can be recorded by the patient. Despite the advantages of performing it under these conditions, it takes a long time to be evaluated with 2-4 voiding cycles and is used as a second step in cases that cannot be diagnosed by conventional urodynamics. In the previous studies performed by us, it was seen that the results of the ambulatory urodynamic examination performed with a single voiding cycle were similar to the studies in the literature using multiple voiding cycles. However, at the moment, there is no study in the literature that determines the optimal duration of this test. For these reasons, this study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the test at the end of a single voiding cycle with that at the end of multiple (2 to 4) voiding cycles.

Effects of Hypopressive Abdominal Gymnastics in Urinary Incontinence

MenopauseOlder Adults

The increase in the age of the population is a problem that affects both Spain and the rest of the world. Life expectancy increases, and this will influence the quality of life that older people will have. The quality of life is related to the health of the population. Women live longer than men and have diseases such as urinary incontinence that are more frequent in them. This is related to childbirth, increasing age, and menopause due to the hormonal level. Therefore, there are a series of problems related to both physical and mental health associated both with increasing age and with the situation of hormonal change that occurs after the onset of menopause. All of this will influence deficient pelvic musculature, sexual function, sleep quality, and depression/anxiety. Conservative treatment using hypopressive abdominal exercises has been shown to be beneficial at the level of health in female populations with urinary incontinence. The challenge lies in designing exercise programs that, in addition to achieving these benefits, are attractive with acceptance and adherence. The objective of this doctoral thesis is to study the effects of hypopressive abdominal exercises for 12 weeks on quality of life related to urinary incontinence in women, sleep quality, anxiety and depression, and female sexual function in women. Spanish postmenopausal women.

P-INC: Project Incontinence- Effectiveness of Nursing Recommendations

Urinary Incontinence

The international literature emphasizes the vast benefits of the effective implementation of evidence based nursing recommendations in improving patient care processes and enhancing health outcomes. The key role of nurses in the prevention, treatment and care of incontinence is highlighted. Studies have shown that UI is a neglected nursing care problem in Austria e.g. regarding diagnosis and nursing interventions. Nursing recommendations may enhance the frequency of diagnosis, the use of nursing interventions as well as decrease the frequency of daily UI in nursing home residents. Beside that little is known about nursing recommendations implementation regarding urinary incontinence in the nursing home setting, especially in the Austrian context. The aim of this study is to measure the effectiveness of the implementation of evidence based nursing recommendations regarding UI in Austrian nursing homes.
