Urinary Tract InfectionsThe Velieve U.S. UTI Urine Analysis Test System (henceforth Velieve U.S.) is composed of a kit and a smartphone application. The device will be provided to the subject in a simulated home-use environment. All subjects will be asked to complete the urine test by following the application guidance,including providing a urine sample and scanning the urine strip after placing it on the Color-Board. The user will also complete a questionnaire to collect information regarding the use of the Velieve U.S. device. Following the usability test performed by the lay user, the subject's urine sample will be tested by the professional user using the comparator device. The use of the Velieve U.S. device will be evaluated for identified risks. Additionally, measurable usability criteria for specific, critical steps will be evaluated.

Urinary Tract InfectionsBackground and aim: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are commonly seen after flexible ureteroscopy. Prevention of UTIs remains controversial. The present randomized study aimed to compare the rate of post-procedural UTI in patients subjected to the standard antibiotic prophylaxis alone versus enhanced prophylactic measures. Patients and methods: The study included 100 patients subjected to fURS for management of ureteral and/or renal stones. Patients were equally and randomly allocated into one of the two treatment groups using randomly computer-generated allocation tables and concealed envelope technique. Treatment groups included standard antibiotic prophylaxis group and enhanced prophylaxis group. Patients in the standard antibiotic prophylaxis group IV fluoroquinolone 1 hour preoperatively and oral antibiotics were used for 24h postoperatively. In the enhanced prophylaxis group, patients had urine culture 10 days before the procedure. In addition to the antibiotic prophylaxis, hydrophilic-coated ureteral access sheaths were systematically used.
When is the Best Moment to Remove the Urinary Catheter After Laparoscopic Hysterectomy?
Urinary Tract InfectionBladder RetentionObjective: The aim of this study is to evaluate if direct removal of the urine catheter after an laparoscopic hysterectomy (total laparoscopic hysterectomy and laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy) is associated with similar (or better) outcomes compared to delayed catheter removal after surgery, which is the current treatment. In addition, we want to investigate patient's experience on this subject. Study design: Randomized Controlled trial, non-inferiority study. Study population: Women older than 18 years old, who are a laparoscopic hysterectomy for benign indication or low-grade malignancy. Intervention: Group A (treatment group): the patients in this group will have their catheter directly removed in the OR after LH. Group B (control group): the patients in the control group will have their catheter removed according to the regular protocol of the hospital (at least 6 hours in place).

For each subject enrolled, all parameters relating to urinary infections will be assessed at the beginning (baseline), every 2 months from the start of treatment and at the end of treatment (6 months), with urine analysis and quality of life questionnaires.

Preventing Urinary Tract Infection Post-Surgery
Urinary Tract InfectionApproximately 10-27% of patients undergoing gynecologic surgeries develop a catheter associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) in the post operatory period, as bladder catheterization is a common practice in gynecologic surgery. Cranberry products provide alternative means for preventing CAUTI and could result in decreased use of antimicrobials. In this pilot study we will enroll 200 women post gynecologic surgery and randomize them to take either cranberry powder capsules or placebo powder capsules. The low risk of harm associated with using cranberry to reduce UTI coupled with its potential benefit makes it a desirable intervention for the prevention of CAUTI. The conduct/ results of this pilot /feasibility study will prepare us for the conduct of a large scale clinical trial.
