The Global Prevalence of Infections in Urology Study

Hospital InfectionUrinary Tract Infections

Urology departments from all over the world are invited to join the Global Prevalence Study on Infections in Urology (GPIU-study) and the GPIU Prostate Biopsy Side Study. The GPIU study is taking part annually in November since 2003. European urologists were the first group of specialist to register hospital acquired infections on an international level. More than 20.000 patients have been screened and more than 2000 patients are currently listed in this database. Why? Infectious complications after urological procedures, such as prostate biopsy and increasing antimicrobial resistance are posing significant threats to modern urology The GPIU-study is a combined quality improvement initiative and a scientific study. Once the participating departments have filled in the report forms they will get access to statistics showing the accumulated results for all participating hospitals. The participants can anonymously compare their own results with hospitals from all over the World. The GPIU-study application has been designed as an instrument to ongoing follow-up of the development of important factors related to infection on international, national and local levels. The Role of TLR-4 Polymorphisms in Children With Urinary Track Infections

Urinary Tract Infection

Purpose So far anatomical abnormalities (mostly congenital) were, in the majority of the patients, associated with urinary track infections. In this study the researchers will try to investigate the role of TLRs as molecular interactions between bacterial virulence and host response. TLRs are important mediators in the development of the natural immunity against bacteria. They recognize microbial pathogen associated molecular patterns and alert the host's immune system to the presence of invading microbes

Retrospective Analysis of Ialuril vs. Standard of Care in Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections

Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections

The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness and costs associated with the intravesical administration of combined hyaluronic acid (HA) and chondroitin sulphate (CS) compared to the current standard management of recurrent urinary tract infections in adult women diagnosed with recurrent urinary tract infections (RUTI).

Infections Caused by ESbL-Producing Enterobacteriaceae in Italy

Enterobacteriaceae InfectionsBacteremia3 more

To assess the molecular epidemiology, clinical impact, treatment outcome and risk factors for infections caused by Enterobacteriaceae producing ESBLs in Italy in a large multicenter observational survey. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES To collect consecutive nonreplicate isolates of Enterobacteriaceae resistant to expanded-spectrum cephalosporins from clinical specimens from inpatients and outpatients. To characterize the isolates for resistance phenotypes and for β-lactam resistance mechanisms. To investigate the clonality of isolates. To analyse the epidemiology of various resistance mechanisms/resistant clones. To collect clinical and epidemiological data for patients with infections caused by the ESBL producers. To analyse the epidemiology, risk factors and outcome for infections caused by ESBL producers.

Incidence of Post Cystography Urinary Tract Infections in the Pediatric Population

Urinary Infection

Cystography is a frequent pediatric examination, although indications have been recently restricted . Current indications in our center are: The occurrence of 2 episodes of acute pyelonephritis or 1 episode of pyelonephritis if dilatation of the pelvic ureter> 5 mm for male children Urinary tract infections that occurred in the month following this test are considered secondary to cystography. However, no recent study has investigated the prevalence of urinary tract infections post cystography. There is no recent epidemiological data on this risk of infection, especially since the management of infections has changed and aseptic precautions during retrograde cystography have evolved with most of the time coverage. antibiotic. The main objective of this multi-center epidemiological prospective study is to perform a recent analysis of the retrograde post-cystographic urinary tract infection rate. Material and methods: Epidemiological, observational, multicenter, prospective study over a period from January 2018 to January 2019. No therapeutic modification will be undertaken at the end of the study. Parents will be called one months after the exam to check if their child had a urinary infection.

Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT): PRIM-DJ2727

Recurrent Clostridium Difficile InfectionMultidrug-resistant Klebsiella Pneumoniae Urinary Tract Infection

The Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) product PRIM-DJ2727 is prepared from human stool from a healthy, screened donor. Requestors will contact the study team about the product (PRIM-DJ2727) by email, visit, or phone call. A screening list for donors will be provided to make sure that the list fits the requestor's requirements. A basic fee will be requested to recover the cost of making the product. After an agreement is made, a contract will be signed between the 2 parties. A week before the treatment, requestors will contact the study team for possible FMT product delivery. Delivery method will be confirmed for delivery by personnel (within 10 minutes driving distance) or by using FedEx services. Each delivered product will have an approved delivery form signed and dated by both the person who prepared the delivery and the person who received the package.

Postnatal Prevalence of Bacteriuria in Women With Catheter Versus no Catheter in Labour: a Prospective...

Urinary Tract Infection in PregnancyUrinary Tract Infection Following Delivery1 more

Catheterisation is an accepted tool in intrapartum bladder care and indwelling catheters are used routinely before elective caesarean sections. However, urinary catheters are associated with an increased rate of urinary tract infections which can lead to complications including increased maternal morbidity and prolonged hospital stay. A Cochrane Review (2014) concluded that there is insufficient evidence to assess the routine use of indwelling bladder catheters in women undergoing caesarean section. The incidence and causation of catheter-associated infection in this population is unknown. We propose to provide this data, by comparing urine samples from pregnant women before and after their delivery and analysing this against observational catheter use during the delivery. This will be vital in conducting future research into potential change in policy on routine catheterisation. It will also be beneficial to patients as it could reduce the burden of catheterisation by reducing their chance of developing a UTI and by reducing the associated morbidity.

Urine pH and Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary Tract InfectionsUrinary Stone

Urinary tract infections (UTI) affect the urine pH and may lead to salt precipitation such as struvite. Bacteria with urease activity are known to alkalinise urine, but not much is known on how pH is changing over time during UTI. This study aims at following urine pH progression at the time of diagnosis of UTI and during the treatment phase. Description of the change in urine pH over time will help understanding the risk of struvite formation and potential timing of intervention.
