Validity of Patient-Collected Wet Mounts
Vaginal DischargeTrichomonas4 morePurpose/Objectives: To compare wet mount findings for clue cells, yeast, trichomonads and white blood cells per high-power field in self-collected vaginal specimens, compared to clinician-collected specimens, among symptomatic women visiting the San Antonio Metropolitan Health sexually transmitted disease clinic. Research Design/Plan: Prospective, non-randomized, non-blinded trial Methods: Obtain informed consent and specimens from 40 symptomatic adult females (eg abnormal discharge, odor and/or itching). Calculate concordance between clinician- and patient-collected samples using a Wilcoxon Matched-Pair test. Calculate sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of the patient-collected wet mount, using the clinician-collected specimens as the "gold standard." Clinical Relevance: A "wet mount," or microscopic examination, is commonly used to diagnose trichomoniasis and yeast in females, and constitutes one diagnostic element for bacterial vaginosis. While patient-collected vaginal swabs are acceptable for nucleic acid probe tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea and nucleic acid probe tests for trichomoniasis little information about patient-collected wet mounts exists in the literature. Self-collection by women before being seen by a clinician can increase the speed and efficiency of the visit. The method is highly acceptable to women. In the investigators' clinic, women routinely collect their own gonorrhea and chlamydia swabs, so adding an additional swab would not be burdensome.
Effect of Nutrition in the Treatment of Vaginitis
VaginitisVaginitis is an inflammation or infection of the vagina. It is successfully treated for causative pathogenesis. However, it can be recurrent or treatment-resistant vaginitis. The investigator's aim in this study is to investigate the effect of nutrition and risk factors on the failure of vaginitis treatment.
Observational Program Neo-Penotran® Forte
Vaginal CandidiasisBacterial Vaginosis1 moreVaginitis is the most common gynecologic diagnosis in the primary care setting. In approximately 90 percent of affected women, this condition occurs secondary to bacterial vaginosis, vulvovaginal candidiasis, trichomoniasis or mixed infection. Neo-Penotran Forte is registered for treatment of these most common vaginal infections. Efficacy and safety of this product is already established, and this observational study was designed to learn more about practical use of Neo-Penotran® Forte in real life setting.
Gyni™ Study With Leumit Health Services
VaginitisAbout one third of the women referring to gynecological clinics present with vulvovaginal inflammation symptoms (vaginitis) possibly caused by seven different conditions or mixed infections. The Gyni™ system is intended to provide physicians with the means to obtain an accurate, fast and inexpensive diagnosis which is unavailable today. Gyni™ is comprised of a compact tabletop scanner, a disposable sample collector and a cloud based algorithm that provides a suggested diagnosis within 5 minutes. The trial is a prospective evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of using Gyni™ by comparing its usage outcomes in a practice setting to the outcomes obtained using the current standard of care.

Real-world Performance and Safety of Cerviron® in the Treatment of Vaginitis
VaginitisBacterial VaginosisVaginitis is a broad term that includes a range of gynecological disorders characterized by infection of vaginal mucosa, inflammation of vulva and alteration of the normal vaginal microflora. The most prevalent is bacterial vaginosis, followed by other clinical entities such as candidiasis, trichomoniasis and non-specific vaginitis. A collection of clinical data was conducted to assess the tolerability of Cerviron® ovules in the treatment and management of various types of vaginitis in clinical practice. A total of 111 women aged between 20 and 70 years were recruited, 71 of whom were treated with Cerviron® ovules as monotherapy and 40 who used Cerviron® ovules as supportive treatment in conjunction with antibiotic therapy. The aim of our study was to assess the relief in vaginal symptoms and changes in the normal vaginal pH level after 3 months of treatment with Cerviron® medical device in real-life clinical practice settings.

Use of Oral Probiotics as an Adjunctive Therapy to Fluconazole in the Treatment of Yeast Vaginitis...
Vaginal CandidiasisYeast vaginitis is a very common ailment affecting premenopausal women in Nigeria. This condition is more prevalent in the age group between 21-30 years. More than 75% of premenopausal women and university students are diagnosed with yeast infections annually. In most of these women, recurrent rate of vaginal candidiasis with empiric therapy, stands between 70 and 80%. In addition, resistance to anti-fungal agents is increasing at an alarming speed, particularly with species other than Candida albicans such as C tropicalis and C glabrata. The healthy vaginal environment is composed mainly of lactobacilli and when these organisms are suppressed overgrowth of a large number of pathogens occur including yeasts. In this pilot study,we hypothesize that oral administration of two well documented strains of lactobacilli (L.rhamnosis GR-1 and L.reuteri RC-14 ) given to women with recurrent yeast vaginitis, following standard therapy with fluconazole will result in a significant reduction in recurrence rate of the disease.
