Low Dose Aspirin for Venous Leg Ulcers

Venous Leg Ulcer

Venous leg ulcers (VLU) are the most common leg ulcer, can be painful, and limit work, lifestyles and activity, especially in older patients. There are few effective treatments - compression therapy (tight bandaging or stockings) helps healing, but about half the people with a VLU remain unhealed even after 12 weeks of treatment. Research suggests taking aspirin as well as using compression may speed up healing for VLU, but the current evidence is not enough to change clinical practice. We will conduct a randomised controlled trial to test whether using low dose aspirin (150 mg daily or placebo) really does speed up healing.

Low-level Light Therapy on Treatment of Venous Ulcers Assesed by Nursing Outcome Classification...

Venous UlcerLow-Level Light Therapy

This study compares the effect of adjuvant treatment of Low-level Light Therapy with conventional treatment in the tissue repair of venous ulcers in patients undergoing outpatient nursing consultation. For the evaluation of the cases clinical indicators of Nursing Outcomes Classification have been used.

Juxta-CuresTM Versus Bandaging for Venous Ulcers

Venous Ulcer

Venous ulceration is a major burden on the NHS. Current treatment involves bandaging therapy which is replaced on a once or twice weekly basis. The Juxta-CuresTM device offers an alternative solution for the long-term treatment of patients with venous ulceration. This is a removable adjustable device with an inbuilt pressure monitor. The aim of this study is to determine whether the Juxta-Cures™ device provides at least equivalent ulcer healing for patients with venous ulceration compared to bandaging. Secondary outcome measures include whether the Juxta-Cures™ device improves patient compliance and quality of life compared to bandaging, and whether the Juxta-Cures™ device is cost effective compared to bandaging.

Trial on the Efficacy of Prontosan Wound Irrigation Solution and Prontosan Wound Gel

Venous Leg Ulcer

The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution and Prontosan® Wound Gel in the treatment of hard-to heal venous leg ulcers compared to control saline irrigation solution and inactive gel by showing a reduction in size over a 12 week period.

Pilot Study for VeinoPlus to Improve Symptoms of Postthrombotic Syndrome (PTS)

Post Thrombotic SyndromeDeep Vein Thrombosis3 more

The investigators plan to perform an exploratory study to investigate the effects of electro-stimulation of the legs on the symptoms and clinical findings of post thrombotic syndrome (PTS), as well as quality of life of patients with PTS. The investigators theorize that electro-stimulation will provide both a mechanical benefit via muscular contraction and increased venous outflow from the affected extremity, as well as an anesthetic effect, which the investigators anticipate will translate into improved symptomatic outcomes, quality of life (QOL) benefits.

Effectiveness of XCell on Autolytic Debridement of Venous Ulcers

Venous Ulcer

This clinical trial is designed to evaluate the effect of XCell cellulose wound dressing for its ability to naturally (autolytically) remove nonviable tissue and create a healthy vascular wound bed. Results will compare venous ulcers treated with Xylos XCell cellulose dressing plus standard care to those treated with standard care alone. The hypothesis is that XCell will demonstrate more autolytic debridement than the standard of care.

Safety and Tolerability of Single and Multiple Doses of SoftOx Biofilm Eradicator (SBE) in Chronic...

Chronic Leg UlcerVenous Leg Ulcer

Single-centre clinical study investigating the safety and tolerability of randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled ascending single doses of topically applied SoftOx Biofilm Eradicator (SBE) in patients with chronic leg wounds and of open-label once daily, twice daily, and thrice daily dosing of topically applied SBE for five days in patients with chronic leg wounds. The primary objective of the study is to assess the safety and tolerability of single and multiple doses of topically applied SBE in patients with chronic leg wounds. A secondary objective of the study is to assess changes in bacterial burden in the leg wound after treatment with SBE.
