Prescription and Utilization of Low Molecular Weight Heparin in Usual Medical Practice for the Curative...

Venous Thromboembolism

The study purpose is to document the prescription and the use of Low Molecular Weight Heparin in usual medical practice in patients with cancer and established Venous Thromboembolism. This study also aims at gathering epidemiological data on the Low Molecular Weight Heparin therapy of Venous Thromboembolism in patients with cancer.

Reproducibility of Plasma Nucleosomes and Free DNA as Markers for Venous Thromboembolism

Venous Thromboembolism

The main objective of this study is to evaluate, for 15 healthy volunteers and for 15 patients with a history of venous thromboembolism (VTE), the monthly variation (over 6 months) of plasma nucleosome and free DNA concentrations.

Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD- Venous Thromboembolic Events

Venous ThromboembolismDeep Vein Thrombosis1 more

The protocol is a large registry to describe acute, sub-acute and extended duration of anticoagulation management, clinical and economic duration of anticoagulation management, clinical and economic outcomes in patients with treated acute VTE (DVT and PE) in the real-world setting. Main objectives are to clarify the: treatment related details for acute VTE (either conventional anticoagulation therapy, treatment with a direct oral anti-coagulant or other modalities of treatment) Rate of early and late symptomatic VTE recurrence Rate and nature of complications of VTE including post thrombotic syndrome and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension Rate of bleeding complications Rate of all-cause mortality at six months

Explicit Assessment of Thromboembolic Risk and Prophylaxis for Medical Patients in Switzerland

Venous Thromboembolism

Until now, no risk assessment model informing about the need of thromboprophylaxis in patients admitted for an acute medical event has been validated. The goal of this project is to indirectly validate a model developed in Geneva by a non -interventional study involving the collection of patient characteristics during the hospitalization and a 3-month follow-up. These data will allow for the determination of the patient's risk, according to the Geneva model, and its validity, according the actual thrombo-embolic events, corrected for the thromboprophylaxis received. The project is multicentric in Switzerland (5-10 centers) and should involve about 1000 patients. First amendment (may 2011) : we have obtained the IRB approval for collecting data from patients who die during their hospital stay and for whom informed consent is not be possible to obtain.

Relative Risks for Non-fatal Venous Thromboembolism, Ischemic Stroke and Myocardial Infarction in...

ContraceptionFemale Contraception1 more

This study uses the PharMetrics and MarketScan US health care insurance claims database to estimate relative risks for non-fatal venous thromboembolism (including cerebral venous sinus thrombosis), ischemic stroke, and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), in current users of ORTHO EVRA (norelgestromin and ethinyl estradiol contraceptive patch) compared to current users of oral levonorgestrel-containing oral contraceptives with 30 micrograms ethinyl estradiol, with special attention to duration of use.

Total Knee Arthroplasty And Thromboembolism: A Comparison Between Two Surgical Techniques

Total Knee ReplacementVenous Thromboembolism

In patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty, thromboembolism is a common occurrence, especially following tourniquet deflation. The resulting cardiopulmonary emboli can potentially lead to hypoxemia, hypotension, hemodynamic collapse and post operative cognitive dysfunction due to emboli. The standard surgical technique involves placing an intramedullary rod in the femur to determine the angle and degree of resection from the end of the femur. A new surgical technique utilizes computer navigation system to perform the desired cuts in the appropriate position. The investigators hypothesize that the avoidance of intramedullary instrumentation in computer assisted total knee replacement will result in fewer thromboembolic events compared with the standard technique using manual instrumentation in the femur. The present study will test this hypothesis by quantifying the extent of thromboembolism during both surgical techniques.

Use of Oral Contraceptives (OCs) Containing Dienogest and Risk of Venous Thromboembolism

Venous Thromboembolism

The objective of this study is to compare the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) of oral contraceptives with non-use, focusing specifically on Valette® compared to other users of low estrogen dose combined oral contraceptives.

Frankfurt Thrombophilia Registry

Venous Thromboembolism

Consecutive patients with acute or previous venous thromboembolism are enrolled in this registry. Using a standardized questionnaire, clinical data detailing venous thromboembolism and contributing VTE risk factors are recorded. Results of technical and laboratory investigations including screening for thrombophilic disorders were additionally entered into the database.

Efficacy of Sodium Heparin for Prophylaxis of Venous Thromboembolism in Surgical Patients

Venous Thromboembolism

The aim of this study is to verify, through clinical examination and doppler, the non-inferiority of the drug test (heparin sodium 5.000UI/0.25 mL - HIPOLABOR) in relation to the drug compared (heparin sodium 5.000USP/mL - APP) in preventing the development of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients undergoing surgery for medium risk for the development of this pathology.
