The Effects of Myofascial Release Technique
Low Back PainExercise1 moreThis study is designed as a single blind randomized controlled trial. Thirty-six elderly with non-specific low back pain (NSLBP) will be recruited. The participants will randomly divided two parallel groups as control and intervention. Traditional physiotherapy methods will be applied to all participants. Traditional physiotherapy will include heat modality (a hot pack for 15 minutes), electrotherapy (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), a 50 Hz conventional TENS with a pulse duration <150 microseconds). For the control group, core stability exercise will be applied 3 days/week, 6 weeks. For the intervention group, in addition to the core stabilization exercises myofascial relaxation technique will be performed with roller massager ((Thera-Band; The Hygenic Corporation, Akron, OH) 3 days/week, 6 weeks. The myofascial relaxation technique will be performed along the superficial back line. To the best of our knowledge, there is no randomized controlled study investigating the effect of the myofascial release technique combined with core stabilization in elderly with NSLBP. This study aimed to investigate the myofascial release technique combined with core stabilization exercise in elderly with NSLBP.

Low Back PainChronic Low Back Pain1 moreThe investigators would like to know which one of two exercise programs will have a greater effect on balance, functional performance, daily function, and pain on individuals with low back pain (LBP) after 2, 4 and 8 weeks. Specifically, the differences in dynamic balance, functional performance, pain intensity, and disability level will be compared between participants who receive spinal stabilization exercises program (SSE) and those who receive a general exercise program (GE) which includes range-of-motion (ROM) and flexibility exercises. The research hypotheses are: The SSE program will significantly improve dynamic balance and functional performance in adult participants with sub-acute and chronic LBP at two and four weeks as well as after an eight-week follow-up after initiating intervention. The SSE program will significantly improve pain intensity and disability level in adult participants with sub-acute and chronic LBP at two and four weeks as well as after an eight-week follow-up after initiating intervention. In adult participants with sub-acute and chronic LBP, the group receiving the SSE program will demonstrate significantly improved dynamic balance, functional performance, pain intensity and disability levels compared to the placebo group receiving the GE program at two and four weeks as well as after an eight-week follow-up after initiating intervention.
Improvements in Adolescents With Back Pain After Pilates
Back PainThe main physical condition factor related to back pain and mobility among adolescents are trunk endurance and hamstring extensibility. The Pilates Method (PM) can be used as a specific exercise technique to train trunk endurance and hamstring extensibility, but there is little evidence regarding its effect in adolescents with a history of back pain. The objective of this study is to determine whether Pilates is effective for improving the trunk endurance and hamstring extensibility of adolescents with a history of back pain and to determine the differences between the sexes. The sample was composed of 52 students with a mean age of 14.44 ± 0.7 years who had suffered back pain during the past year. They were distributed into the Pilates Exercise Group (PEG, n = 26) and the Control Group (CG, n = 26). The Pilates programme was conducted over 6 weeks. For measuring trunk flexion and extension endurance, the bench trunk curl (BTC) test and the Sorensen (SOR) test were used, respectively. Hamstring extensibility was measured with the toe touch (TT) test. After the Pilates intervention, either the whole sample or males and females separately improved significantly (p ≤ 0.05) in the BTC, SOR or TT test.
