H1N1 Influenza VirusHuman Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1) Infection

This is a phase III, randomized, controlled, open label study with two vaccine regimens. The study will assess the relative safety and immunogenicity of vaccine regimens comparing adjuvanted versus non-adjuvanted formulations of A(H1N1) inactivated influenza virus vaccine in subjects with Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1) Infection and to compare safety and immunogenicity data with a contemporaneously enrolled control group of age-comparable, healthy subjects. Because certain individuals may be hypo-responsive to influenza vaccination, additional studies with high-risk groups are warranted in order to determine the optimal vaccine formulation and dosing schedule for prevention of novel H1N1 virus infection.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of 4 different formulations of the HR5I vaccine (Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate, recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen, diphtheria, tetanus, 5-component acellular pertussis, and inactivated poliovirus Types 1, 2, and 3). The primary hypothesis is that at least 1 of the 4 formulations of HR5I administered as a primary series at 2, 3, and 4 months of age will be acceptable (similar to targeted rates) with respect to Postdose 3 antibody responses to all antigens.

Study hypothesis: Influenza A viruses are widely distributed in nature and infect a wide variety of birds and mammals. The direct transmission of avian influenza viruses from birds to humans has recently become a major health concern in Asia and other parts of the world, raising concern of a possible influenza pandemic in humans. This vaccine will evaluate the safety, infectivity and immunogenicity of Live Influenza A vaccine H9N2 (6-2) AA ca reassortant (A/chicken/Hong Kong/G9/97 x A/Ann Arbor/6/60 ca), a cold-adapted, live attenuated virus vaccine administered intranasally for the protection of humans against pandemic influenza viruses of the H9N2 subtype.

The purpose of this research study is to learn more about the use of viral specific T-lymphocytes (VSTs) to prevent viral infections that may happen after allogeneic stem cell transplant. Allogeneic means the stem cells come from another person. VSTs are cells specially designed to fight viral infections that may happen after a stem cell transplant (SCT). Stem cell transplant reduces your ability to fight infections. Viral infections are a common problem after transplant and can cause significant complications. Moreover, treatment of viral infections is expensive and time consuming, with families often administering prolonged treatments with intravenous anti-viral medications, or patients requiring prolonged admissions to the hospital. The medicines can also have side effects like damage to the kidneys or reduction in the blood counts, so in this study we are trying to find a way to prevent these infections.
