Yoga for Persons With Severe Visual Impairment

This study aims to provide novel information on the feasibility of yoga interventions for secondary symptoms related to severe vision loss, such as sleep disturbances, negative mood states, fall risk and balance. This information will be important for determining safe, cost-effective and reliable practices for the benefits of yoga as an alternative means for improved health and well-being. A yoga intervention that is integrative and evidence-based will benefit the blind population through effective treatments and prevention of secondary symptoms as well as serve to inform rehabilitation specialists, educators, and clinicians in the future.

Macular EdemaCentral Retinal Vein Occlusion

The present study provided additional efficacy and safety data for 0.5-mg ranibizumab using as needed (PRN) dosing over 24 months in patients with visual impairment due to macular edema secondary to Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO). Spectral domain high-definition optical coherence tomography (OCT) images was analyzed to gain insights into predictive factors for disease progression and the possibility of reduced monitoring was assessed in Year 2. The results of this open-label study provided long-term safety and efficacy data to further guide recommendations on the use of ranibizumab in this indication.

This study aims to enroll premenopausal patients, with early breast cancer who are non-low-risk and hormone receptor-positive and have undergone prior surgical intervention at the Breast Cancer Center of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University. These participants, receiving tamoxifen (TAM), toremifene (TOR), or aromatase inhibitors (AI) as adjuvant endocrine therapy and undergoing ovarian function suppression (OFS) treatment, will be divided into three groups, namely TOR+OFS, TAM+OFS, AI+OFS. The study will compare the efficacy and safety of TOR+OFS to that of TAM+OFS or AI+OFS in premenopausal estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer patients by comparing the 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) and quality of life etc. The objective is to evaluate whether TOR+OFS is non-inferior to TAM+OFS or AI+OFS in this specific patient population.

Clinical Long-Term Evaluation of Approved and Investigational Contact Lenses

Visual Disorders

This is a multi-site, dispensing, 4-visit, 2-arm parallel group, randomized, double-masked clinical trial using a Vistakon investigational contact lens (test) and a marketed monthly replacement contact lens (control). Each subject will be assigned randomly to either the test or control lens to evaluate the long term safety and efficacy of the investigational contact lens compared to the marketed contact lens over a period of six months of lens wear.

This study is undertaken to determine the effect of intravitreal long acting dexamethasone implant, (Ozurdex®) in improving outcome of cataract surgery in patients with diabetic macular edema. Diabetic Macular Edema and cataract constitute important causes of visual impairment in patients with diabetes. Cataract surgery in patients with diabetic retinopathy is associated with progression of retinopathy. Several modalities such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, corticosteroids, hyperbaric oxygen, laser photocoagulation and vitrectomy with internal limiting membrane peeling have been tried for managing inflammatory cystoid macular edema. Intravitreal Triamcinolone Acetonide (TA), a water insoluble steroid, has been shown to reduce the retinal thickness and improve the visual acuity. However, recurrence of macular edema in patients who receive intravitreal TA is a major concern as the patients need multiple repeat injections. In search for the ideal corticosteroid preparation, a Dexamethasone Posterior Segment Drug Delivery System (Dexamethasone DDS - Ozurdex®, Allergan Inc, Irvine, California) was recently developed. Promising results have been shown in certain patients with persistent diabetic macular edema receiving this intravitreal drug delivery system with improvement in visual acuity The present study introduces a novel concept of using intraoperative Ozurdex ® implant in patients with diabetes mellitus while undergoing cataract surgery to minimize the worsening of diabetic maculopathy.
