Individuals operated for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment will be prospectively evaluated for postoperative retinal shift. Fundus autofluorescence will be used to evaluate retinal shift that will be correlated to visual acuity, metamorphopsia, aniseikonia, and stereopsis.

Post-market Evaluation of OdySight App to Monitor Near Visual Acuity at Home (TIL002)

Visual Impairment

OdySight is a mobile application allowing self-testing of visual parameters including near visual acuity and communication of the data to an online dashboard to patient's doctors. TIL-002 post-market clinical trial objective is to evaluate the near visual acuity at home, measured with OdySight application in comparison to the standardized methods. The clinical trial is intended to prove that OdySight can provide relevant data and participate in the remote monitoring of subject vision.

Perception of Objects and Natural Scenes in People With Vision Loss (ACTIVIS)

Vision Loss

The loss of central vision causes difficulty not only in reading but also in faces recognition, and in particular in the identification of facial expression, objects or spaces. These visual deficits have been mainly studied in relation with reading, which is the main complaint of these kind of patients. However, there are not enough data regarding perception of objects and spaces in this population. Then, the objectives are to study the visual-spatial abilities in individuals with vision loss, and altered cognitive processes, (2) to develop clinics tools for early detection and quantification of visual-spatial deficits and (3)to understand the capacities of normal peripheral vision in order to test the possibility of potential training for use of peripheral vision when central vision is impaired by an ophthalmic pathology.

A Novel Acuity Testing Method

Vision Disorder

The purpose of this protocol is to develop a valid, reliable, better standardized, and more efficient test of visual acuity (ability to see fine details) for use in clinical trials. Recent improvements in computer video hardware permit calibration, characterization, and accurate rendering of eye-chart-quality letters. The computer can then be used to measure acuity. The modified binary search (MOBS) testing strategy is one method of computer-based testing. This study will compare the accuracy, precision, stability and utility of the MOBS technique with the eye chart method used in the National Eye Institute's Early Treatment for Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS). The ETDRS method is currently the gold standard for acuity testing in clinical trials. Study subjects will include NEI clinic patients between 7 and 90 years of age with or without eye disease. Eye diseases include poor visual acuity, age-related macular degeneration, cataract, optic nerve abnormality, corneal abnormality, uveitis, glaucoma, other retinal or choroid abnormality, amblyopia or other eye disease. Participants will have their vision tested in each eye using both the ETDRS eye chart method and the MOBS method. The ETDRS method will require subjects to read all the letters on the chart until they can no longer see the details. For the MOBS method, they will read a single letter at a time that will appear on the computer screen. After reading each letter, a new letter will be presented that is either bigger or smaller in size. After completing the last acuity test, participants will fill out a questionnaire regarding their preference for one test type over the other.

Central Visual Impairment

The purpose of this study is to evaluate reading performance in the visual periphery by simulating central vision loss using a computer-controlled gaze-contingent display with an eye tracker. Participants will read a page of text at a comfortable rate. Several manipulations hypothesized to improve reading will be tested, such as an inverted-text "spotlight" of a single word that follows the participant's gaze.
