Vitamin D Supplementation and the Immune Response
D Vitamin Deficiency PatientsThe main objective is to assess the variation in plasma levels of cathelicidin before and after influenza vaccination. All bibliographic data suggests that supplementation vitamin D in the elderly often deficient in this vitamin may have a double interest: By induction of cathelicidin, assist in anti-infective response in particular to the influenza virus The normalization of vitamin D status, promote the return to an appropriate immune response limiting excess inflammation and improving capacity to respond. The entire project will collect new information on the merits of the use of vitamin D in aging. A better knowledge of mechanisms involved and the impact of aging on them is a necessary prerequisite the definition of a new strategy using this drug in the elderly particularly fragile in order to improve its autonomy. This definition seems a sociological interest obvious economic knowing the current aging population and its impact future of our health system.
Effects of Vitamin D Supplementation on Glucose Metabolism in Women With Former Gestational Diabetes...
Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in PregnancyVitamin D DeficiencyGestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) and vitamin D deficiency are related to insulin resistance and impaired beta-cell function, with heightened risk for future development of diabetes. The investigators hypothesize that vitamin D supplementation to women with previous gestational diabetes may improve glucose metabolism.
Vitamin D Intervention Trial in Healthy Chinese, Phase II
Vitamin D DeficiencyThis is a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 400 eligible volunteers, who were 20-45 years, with 25-hydroxyvitamin D between 12.5-50 nmol/L and BMI between 18.5-28 kg/m2, were enrolled and randomly assigned to placebo or 2000 IU/d vitamin D3 arm, after taking placebo for one week. The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of Huadong Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Shanghai and all participants provided written informed consents. In this 2-arm RCT we aimed to systematically investigate the effect of: vitamin D3 supplement on serum 25(OH)D levels and the modifying factors; genetic and non-genetic variants on vitamin D bioavailability; vitamin D3 supplementation on metabolic profiles and circulating bone-turnover markers
Hepatic Dysfunction, Vitamin D Status, and Glycemic Control in Diabetes
Type 2 DiabetesNonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease1 moreThis study is designed to study the effect of vitamin D intake on the severity of fatty liver and poor glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease.
The Effect of Oral Vitamin D Versus Narrow-Band UV-B Exposure on the Lipid Profile
Vitamin D DeficiencyParticipants in this study will be randomized to receive either oral vitamin D pills OR ultraviolet light treatment. The investigators will compare how these two methods of raising vitamin D levels will affect cholesterol levels.
Vitamin D in HIV-Infected Patients on HAART
Vitamin D DeficiencyHIVThis is a research study to look at vitamin D deficiency (low levels) in men and women with HIV. As part of your regular medical care, you will be screened for vitamin D deficiency. If your levels are low, and you choose to start using vitamin D supplements, the investigators would like to take some blood before and after you start using vitamin D to see how this affects your levels of HIV, T cells, cholesterol, and other blood levels. The investigators will provide you with vitamin D supplements for the first 24 weeks (6 months) of the study. If you and your physician decide that you should continue taking vitamin D supplements after that time, you will be responsible for purchasing your own vitamin D supplements.
Effect of Vitamin D Replacement During Winter Months in Patients With Hypertension
HypertensionVitamin D DeficiencyHigh blood pressure is related to increased risk of cardiovascular disease and death, and accounts for approximately 8 mill deaths worldwide each year. Blood pressure exhibits a seasonal variation with a tendency to increase during winter months. Vitamin D deficiency is more common during months where UVB radiation from the sun is absent, and vitamin D has been associated with high blood pressure. This study will evaluate the effect of vitamin D replacement during winter months on blood pressure and vasoactive hormones in patients with high blood pressure.
Impact of Vitamin D Repletion in Hemodialysis Patients
Vitamin D DeficiencyEnd-stage Renal DiseaseDialysis patients often suffer from defects in their immune system (that part of the body which fights infection). Evidence suggests that Vitamin D deficiency may have a negative effect on immunity, and many dialysis patients are deficient in Vitamin D. We believe that by giving Vitamin D to dialysis patients who are deficient, we may help improve their immune system. This study will test that idea.
Effects of Vitamin D Dose and Genotype of the Binding Protein in Infants and Children
Vitamin D DeficiencyThe purpose of this study is to determine if the vitamin D binding protein genotype influences circulating vitamin D levels and if it may have functional consequences on vitamin D activity.
hCAP18 Levels and Vitamin D Deficiency in Healthy Subjects
Healthy SubjectsVitamin D DeficiencyVitamin D deficiency (low levels of vitamin D in the blood) is a common problem. A recently discovered protein, called hCAP18, likely plays an important role in the immune system and may depend on adequate levels of vitamin D. It is not known what levels of vitamin D are needed to allow the body to make this protein. Nor is it known if giving vitamin D to people who are found to be deficient will help boost levels of hCAP18. This study aims to clarify the relationship between vitamin D levels and hCAP18.
