Vitamin D in Pregnancy
Vitamin D DeficiencyPre-Eclampsia2 moreDanish pregnant women are recommended ad daily vitamin D supplement of 10 µg. Despite the fact that 9 out of 10 women take vitamin D supplements, more than 40% of pregnant women are vitamin D deficient, putting them at an increased risk of pregnancy complications like fetal growth restriction and pre-eclampsia. Our hypothesis is that pregnant women would benefit from an increased intake og vitamin D and that an intake of 90µg/day can reduce the prevalence of placenta-related pregnancy complications. Combining a double-blinded randomized trial (10µg vs.90µg) with collection of placental material, we want to test if the prevalence of pregnancy complications is reduced and explore how vitamin D affects placenta to improve our understanding of the disease pathology and risk factors.

Vitamin D Status Among Competitive Female Gymnast and Swimmers After Winter Time
Vitamin D DeficiencyInjuries2 moreAs indoor athletes, competitive gymnasts and swimmers can face the problem of a potential vitamin D deficiency. In the last decades, indoor sports participants have been faced with the problem of an institutionalized lifestyle and, in some places, a lower exposure to sun, which is also associated with the geographical area with a lower or higher UV index, especially in autumn, winter, and early spring (from October to April), when the day is shorter and the clock shifts to winter time. The problem with gymnasts and swimmers lies in daily trainings in the gym and pool and in the daily rest between two trainings, which can be spend more or less institutionally. The investigators wanted to examine the vitamin D status related to bone mineral density, body composition and various cardiovascular markers among young competitive gymnasts and swimmers after winter time. The investigators want to potentially give more solid but sensible recommendations for trainers, athletes, parents and sports doctors when it comes to vitamin D supplementations for indoor female athletes.
The Effect Of Vitamin D On Measures Of Bone Health And Gene Expression
Vitamin D DeficiencyVitamin D deficiency is now recognized as one of the most common vitamin deficiencies in adults in the United States. Vitamin D deficiency has been connected to many chronic health diseases. The goal of this innovative research is to identify how vitamin D is able to have such wide ranging health benefits. This study will determine which genes are turned on and turned off in adults who receive 2000 IU vitamin D3 per day compared to 400 IU vitamin D3 per day. Results should provide important new insights about the health benefits of vitamin D for adults.
Study Vitamin D in Healthy Individuals
Vitamin D DeficiencyTo obtain sufficient specimens and correlating clinical data from a well-controlled prospective clinical trial collecting specimens from healthy subjects t on vitamin D assays, and to establish a collection of specimens that will support future assay discovery and validation efforts.
Vitamin D During Pregnancy
Vitamin D DeficiencyVitamin D insufficiency is common globally. Pregnant women, who need an increased supply of this vitamin for the proper development of the fetus, are a significant risk group. The purpose of this study is to examine which factors - education, knowledge from non-professional sources, recommendations from medical staff - influence the use of vitamin D among pregnant women in light of the lack of a clear health policy, and to help formulating guidelines for a new health policy with specific recommendations for vitamin D dosage in pregnancy.
