Women Eating With Interactive Tracking to Gain Healthily Through Term Pregnancy Trial
ObesityPregnancy1 moreObesity and excessive weight gain in pregnancy have significant associated maternal and fetal complications including gestational diabetes, large for gestational age infants, birth trauma, and stillbirth. The standard of care places the responsibility on the providers during prenatal visits to remind patients of their weight gain goals and provide appropriate counseling. The objective of this study is to evaluate a sustainable medical student-assisted longitudinal program of nutritional counseling and web based nutrition tracking for pregnant women on excessive weight gain during pregnancy and the effects on diet choices and fetal and maternal complications.

Preventing Obesity in Military Communities, Adolescents
ObesityWeight Gain2 moreThis research study is aimed at the prevention of excessive weight gain in female military dependents at high risk for adult obesity. The purpose of this study is to determine whether reducing Loss of Control (LOC) eating and associated indicators through use of interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) will be feasible and acceptable to female adolescent dependents who report such behaviors. Moreover, patterns in the data will be examined to assess whether IPT influences body weight gain trajectories and prevent worsening disordered eating and metabolic functioning among female military dependents at heightened risk for unhealthy weight gain.
Daily Self-weighing and Holiday-associated Weight Gain in Adults
ObesityBackground: Previous studies report 0.4-1.5kg of weight gain during the holiday season, which may contribute to annual weight gain. Purpose: To test whether daily self-weighing (DSW) can prevent holiday weight gain. Hypothesis: We hypothesized that daily self-weighing would effectively prevent weight and fat gain, and that individuals with overweight and obesity would respond most favorably to DSW.
Effect of Bitter Melon Seed Oil on Body Weight
Weight GainTo investigate the metabolic benefits of bitter melon seed oil (BMSO), overweight or obese healthy Taiwanese adults (n=60) were randomly assigned to receive capsules containing either olive oil (OO; placebo) or BMSO at 4.5 g/d dose for 12 week. Across intervention period, body weight, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, and body fat mass were measured. Blood were collected before and after intervention for measurements of blood lipid and inflammatory cytokines. The anti-obesity effect of BMSO was further assessed by stratification of participants according to UCP1 rs1800592 polymorphism.

Weight GainRapid weight gain during infancy is a powerful, and potentially malleable, risk factor for later overweight and obesity, but limited research has examined the impact of promising interventions when applied to the groups most at risk for rapid weight gain in infancy. The present study examines whether providing mothers of newborns with responsive parenting guidance during the first weeks of life to promote infant sleep and soothing can reduce rapid weight gain for African American infants born in low SES contexts.

Excessive Weight Gain in Pregnancy With Baby DeliveredMultiple studies have demonstrated a very low prevalence of women meeting physical activity and weight gain recommendations during pregnancy. The aim of this study is to provide a lifestyle intervention to increase physical activity, reduce carbohydrate intake, prevent excessive gestational weight gain, decrease postpartum weight retention, and improve mental well-being compared to "usual care" using a randomized controlled design in pregnant women. Participants in the intervention group will receive behavioral lifestyle counseling and take part in monthly one-on-one visits with a registered dietitian (RDN) from approximately week 14 of their pregnancy to child birth. Participants in the "usual care" group (control) will not receive any lifestyle counseling. Data collected from this group will be used to compare the effectiveness of the lifestyle intervention. Unlike many studies examining diet and physical activity factors alone, this study evaluates additional psychosocial factors such as psychological health, self-efficacy, competence, motivation and barriers that may influence excessive gestational weight gain. In addition, the Self-Determination Theory framework will be used to measure how motivation and motivational interviewing strategies can help explain changes in volitional behavior.
The IBEP Study: an Intervention for Lifestyle Modification in Women With Gestational Diabetes

The primary aim of the study is to evaluate whether women with gestational diabetes enrolled in an intensive behavioral educational program (IBEP) demonstrate lower mean fasting glucose levels measured by 2 hour 75 gram oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at 6 weeks postpartum compared to women with gestational diabetes who undergo routine gestational diabetes education and counseling.
Appropriate Gestational Weight Gain in Overweight/Obese Women
Gestational Weight GainThe goal of this trial is to investigate the efficacy of a lifestyle intervention of healthy diet and physical activity for helping overweight/obese pregnant women to achieve appropriate gestational weight gain (GWG) for their prepregnancy body mass index (BMI). The goal of the intervention is to help women achieve the lower bound of the GWG range recommended by the Institutes of Medicine (IOM) for a given prepregnancy BMI category (i.e., 11 lbs for obese women and 15 lbs for overweight women). The lifestyle intervention will be delivered via 2 in-person counseling sessions and 11 telephone contacts with study dieticians trained in motivational interviewing techniques. The lifestyle intervention will be compared to usual medical care. Outcomes will be assessed by trained study personnel at approximately 10 weeks and 32 weeks gestation, within several days of delivery and at 6 months and 12 months postpartum.
