Circadian Time Restricted Eating

Circadian RhythmCardiometabolic Health3 more

The goal of this study is to learn more about how the time in which participants consume their meals relative to their personalized circadian rhythm influences their overall cardiometabolic health and weight. The investigators are hoping to discover if a circadian-based time restricted eating intervention will improve cardiometabolic health and decrease weight. The protocol is a 46 day prospective cohort study that includes both field and in-laboratory data collection in overweight and obese individuals.

Can we Achieve 'High-quality' Weight Loss Through Supplementation and Exercise? The TRIM MUSCLE...

OverweightObesity

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the combination of two dietary supplements: MUSCLE 5, which contains protein, creatine and vitamin D and TRIM 7, which contains beet extract, caffeine, coenzyme Q10, alpha lipoic acid, forskolin extract, green coffee bean extract, green tea and vitamin E, plus exercise can induce greater 'high-quality' weight loss than exercise alone in overweight and obese men and women. First, the investigators will examine whether the addition of these two supplements to a mixed exercise regime (e.g., aerobic and resistance training) induces greater improvements in typical training adaptations (aerobic capacity, upper & lower body muscle strength, lean mass, ASM, fat mass, % body fat, and lean mass/fat mass). Secondly, the investigators will assess improvements in pro- and anti-inflammatory factors, insulin sensitivity, and blood lipids. Third, the investigators will determine effects on perceived stress, sleep quality, hair & nail growth, and health-related quality of life. Overweight men and women will be randomized to either exercise alone or exercise plus supplement for 12 weeks. Training will include mixed exercise (aerobic and resistance) three days per week and supplements will be taken on a daily basis. Before and after the 12-week training period the investigators will assess A) Body weight, BMI, DXA outcomes (total lean mass, total body fat, % body fat, ASM, and lean mass/fat mass), waist circumference, VO2max, and upper/lower body maximal strength, B) Circulatory inflammatory factors, antioxidants, blood lipids, and oral glucose tolerance/insulin sensitivity (OGTT), C) Perceived stress, sleep quality, hair & nail growth, and health-related quality of life and D) Overall Health Index. Benefits of the study to participants may include weight loss and improved health (irrespective of weight loss). Benefits of the study to the scientific community include improved understanding of how high-quality protein- and antioxidant-containing supplements, combined with mixed exercise, affect weight loss and overall health in men and women. Thus, the investigators will be comparing men and women to determine if the response to supplementation and exercise is similar or different between the sexes.

Metabolic Adaptations to Weight Loss With and Without Exercise

ObesityMetabolic Disease4 more

Study Purpose: The combination of caloric restriction and exercise is the most common first-line treatment for obesity-related disorders, yet we know very little about how these two very different treatments work together. A deeper understanding about mechanisms underlying the health benefits of adding exercise to a weight loss program will not only aid efforts to optimize more effective lifestyle interventions, but it can also uncover novel targets for the treatment/prevention of obesity-related diseases. Although a reduction in body fat is the fundamental adaptation to weight loss, we know almost nothing about the effects that adding exercise has on structural and functional changes within fat tissue that may further enhance metabolic health. This is very important because many obesity-related metabolic health complications are tightly linked with abnormalities in abdominal fat tissue. We argue exercise-induced modifications in abdominal fat tissue will reveal persistent health benefits even if some weight is regained Study Summary: 10% Weight Loss Phase - Subject participation in the study will involve a series of metabolic tests before, at midpoint, and after undergoing a 10% weight loss program (with or without exercise training depending on group randomization). During this, subjects will be randomized into one of two different experimental groups: Moderate Intensity Continuous Training (MICT) exercise group No exercise (control) group Follow-up Phase: After completing the metabolic testing post-weight loss, all study-related diet and exercise supervision will end and subjects will be free to make their own choices regarding diet and exercise/physical activity behavior. Subjects will then be asked to complete follow-up testing at 2-, 4- and 6- months post-weight loss. Total involvement in the study for each subject will likely be about 10-13 months (4-7 months during weight loss phase, 6 months during follow-up phase).

Effects of Adding L-BAIBA to Exercising Adult Overweight and Obese Men and Women

ObesityWeight Loss3 more

Beta-amino isobutyric acid (BAIBA) is a myokine produced in skeletal muscle and has been shown to impact how our body metabolizes fuel. We seek to examine changes in body composition, weight loss, glucose control, and cardiometabolic risk factors after adding supplementation of BAIBA to exercise in overweight and obese men and women.

Outcomes After Weight Loss Surgery in Low-Risk Patients

Weight LossBariatric Surgery

The purpose of this research is to determine patient-reported outcomes after weight loss surgery, including changes in health, mood, quality of life, health satisfaction, and emotional health, in low-risk patients. Weight loss surgery has been well studied for patients with body mass index (BMI) 35 kg/m^2 or more and those with weight-related medical problems who have a BMI 30 kg/m^2 or more. However, outcomes after weight loss surgery in patients with BMI under 35 kg/m^2 and without co-morbidities have not been well studied.

Digital Lifestyle Management for Weight Loss Control After Thyroidectomy in Thyroid Cancer Patients...

Weight ChangeBody

Thyroid hormones play an important role in the regulation of the body's metabolism. But the relationship between thyroid hormone status and the basal metabolism rate is not absolute. Because thyroid hormone function is not the only factor of control the metabolism and it can be influenced by various factors such as physical activity and diet. Weight change after thyroidectomy is one of the concerns for thyroid cancer patients. The evidence on the bodyweight changes following thyroidectomy has not been established well. Being overweight and obese can increase the risk of developing many potential health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and malignant disease. Recently, digital health care technology has been developed and applied for medical purposes in many clinical practices. Digital Lifestyle Management is one of the strategies that can be helpful for the obese to control their body weight by lifestyle modification. It provides comprehensive, multifactorial, intensive interventions which are delivered via the digital health care mobile service Noom application. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of digital lifestyle management on body weight and quality of life after total thyroidectomy in thyroid cancer patients by using the digital health care Noom application.
