Use of Herbal Supplements in Weight Loss and Weight Maintenance
ObesityEffects of herbal products on weight loss, weight maintenance and metabolic rate. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of two herbal weight loss products, BioLean and BioLean Free compared to each other and a matching placebo, in effects on appetite suppression, changes in metabolism, weight loss, and safety in overweight men and women over a 12 month active weight loss and weight maintenance program. This is a randomized double-blind study. The planned sample size is 180 healthy, overweight (BMI 27-40) males and females aged 18-60.
Surgical Intervention in Bariatric Patients: Excess Weight Loss in the Morbidly Obese Following...
Morbid ObesityUp to 45 men and women who meet the entry criteria will undergo the gastric plication procedure. The study will assess subject excess weight loss (%EWL) following the study procedure at 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36 months.
Linking Temporal Patterns of Modifiable Behaviors to Weight Loss Outcomes
ObesityWeight Change1 moreThis study is designed as an observational trial. The objective of this study is to follow-up with participants 3 years after completion of an 18-month comprehensive behavioral weight loss intervention. Outcomes of interest include change in body weight, body composition, physical activity, energy intake, and sleep. In addition, investigators will explore the associations between current physical activity, sleep, and energy intake patterns and body weight regulation.
The Effect of Severe Weight Loss and Protein Intake on Bone
Weight LossThe purpose of this study is to learn whether the amount of dietary protein can influence bone health during the weight loss after weight loss surgery.
Incisionless Treatment for Patients With Inadequate Weight Loss Following Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass...
ObesityIt is estimated that up to 20% of patients who have Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) surgery will not meet their weight loss goal, or may even regain some of the weight they initially lost. One possible explanation is that the opening between the stomach pouch and the intestine becomes stretched. If this opening becomes too wide, food may be able to pass from the stomach to the intestine too quickly - causing patients to feel less full after eating. For some patients, doctors may recommend additional invasive surgery to tighten the opening between the stomach pouch and the small intestine. Although this may help patients resume their weight loss, the risk of complications during a second surgical procedure is significantly higher than the risk during the original gastric bypass. The purpose of this study is to evaluate an incisionless procedure for patients who have either had inadequate weight loss or have regained weight following gastric bypass. The procedure is designed to tighten the opening between the stomach pouch and the small intestine, which may slow down the passage of food to help patients feel full longer after eating.
Mechanisms of Weight Loss in Patients Diagnosed With Achalasia
AchalasiaCurrently there are no existing data to determine why some achalasia patients lose weight while others do not. The purpose of this study is to gather data from patients diagnosed with achalasia to determine if differences may be identified between those who lose weight and those who do not that would help us better understand the mechanism of weight loss in this population.
Impact of Weight Loss on Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in Overweight and Obese Subjects: a Prospective...
GERDObesityBy affecting the gastroesophageal pressure gradient, obesity predisposes to reflux of gastric contents. The investigators hypothesized that the loss of weight will decrease this gradient and as a result decrease the severity and frequency of GERD symptoms. GERD negatively affects health related quality of life. Since loss of weight may decrease gastroesophageal reflux, the investigators hypothesized that it obesity contributes to poor quality of life in GERD subjects and losing weight should also favorably impact and improve quality of life in GERD patients.
An ACT-Based Physician-Delivered Weight Loss Intervention
Overweight and ObesityEating BehaviorThe purpose of the present study was to conduct a pilot RCT to test the feasibility of a physician-delivered ACT-based intervention for emotional eaters with overweight/obesity against standard care at a network of weight loss clinics. Participants were randomized to receive either standard care at the clinics or the ACT intervention.
Continuous Glucose Monitoring to Aid Weight Loss in Prediabetes
Weight LossPreDiabetesThe primary objective of this study is to determine whether intermittent use of continuous glucose monitor will facilitate weight loss in individuals who are overweight/obese with prediabetes.
Gastric Emptying Using Two Imaging Methods for Those Who Have Undergone POSE2 Weight Loss Procedure...
Weight LossThe purpose of this study is to compare a less invasive breath test against the current standard for assessing gastric (stomach) emptying. The current standard of care is a procedure called Nuclear Scintigraphy of a Solid Meal (NSSM). This study will compare this method to a Gastric Emptying Breath Test (GEBT).
